Case in point, my blower motor gave out with mid to upper 80s and humidity in the 90's %. I tried, but getting under the dash proved too much for me. I found your video and my son-in-law with no experience, watched it, and replaced it in 15-20 minutes, including putting the under dash panel back in place. Very good video

Helpful video. I am getting reading to replace the blower motor on 2013 2500hd . It often does not want to come on, unless I smack it a few times. Am currently in an automotive program at technical college; the instructor said there must be a dead spot on the armature which is why it works when you give it a smack.
Mine has the same problem. I wiggle the wire that connects to the motor and it starts on. I’m changing the Ac motor this weekend. Hopefully that’s the problem. Summer heat is killing me
Thanks so much for this! Blower motor fixed my 2008 HD, but of course the vent tube mod was never done since this was the first motor replacement. The vent tube has been on backorder from Summit, but I am confident I will get it someday. :) Thanks for giving me an idea of what I will need to do and the purpose for the mod! GMC never released an FSB or updated R&R procedures so I was completely in the dark. Thanks again!

Thanks for making this video. I have '13 Avalanche, that has that extension tube. I went to a local auto parts store, and they tried to sell me a different one that had no hole on the motor and told me to plug the hole where the air was feeding from. Your video shows the later version of this blower with that little air intake hole on the blower motor and extension piece. Not sure that is really a good thing for the motor though - bringing potentially dirty outside air into an electric motor, but that's GM's infinite wisdom so will stay with it. Also thanks for posting the parts numbers. Much appreciated.
From what I've read, they added that tube to access air that is filtered to help protect the motor. What damaged my motor was when cleaning the vents I used a air hose to blow away the dust. I inadvertently spun the motor in reverse which hurt the brushes.
@@saskgrass I ordered the part number (as you showed in your video) from Amazon last weekend, came a couple days ago, and installed tonight, fit perfectly. Since i had that shrowd off already, only took me about 30 - 45 minutes. I'm an accountant so it takes me 10 times as long, and then only with great videos like yours! I have to say: that air feed directly into an electric motor seems like engineered failure to me. My fan blades were pretty dirty; if the air going into the motor was anything like the air going across those blades, yikes. My other googling indicates that those units did not have a cabin air filter. Anyway, fan blowing great. I missed my truck so had to go for a drive. Thanks David, live long and prosper!
Thanks very helpful. Just before I started to undo the cover I tap the cover to get rid of the dust and viola the motor kicked in. Saved me an expensive job 👍
I had that air hose left spare from the replacement. I got one of those aftermarket motors they sell off the shelf. I figured it was to help cool the motor but if the other comments say it introduces unnecesary contaminants into the components thats also not a bad argument.
7/32 or 5.5mm on the bracket and 7mm on four screws on cover 👍 Sometimes you can give the blower a few good bumps with your fist/soft hammer and it will start working again!
Watched your video - from the time I started to finished was less than 20 minutes -- I only undid 2 of the screws on the right side .. bottom dropped down -- reached up - pull the tap - turned in clockwise - - motor dropped out ... unsnapped the connector which fit perfectly - pushed the new fan up -- made sure it was all seated -- turned it counter clockwise -- it locked -- put the two screws back in -- done -- 20 minutes .
thank you David bid it less than 10 minutes. next time you don't have to drop the whole shroud just take out the two screws closest to the door pull it down and it is out of the way
Occasionally the motor does fail, but typically all you really need to do is remove the white plug...spray some lubricant into the opening to relube the bearing. 99 times out of 100..the fan will then work like brand new.
David what is the point of that air passage? I just had to replace mine and the new one didn’t have it. Works fine without it currently installed but wondering if I should get a different blower motor that has that opening
You skipped right over the part I am having issues with. The tab folds down to remove, but it doesn't just pop out like you showed. I got bloody knuckles and a big hammer and screw driver and still cant get the thing to just drop out.
I wonder if you were turning it the wrong way. There is a large plastic piece on one side of the tab that seems as though the tab should slide back over it. But it does not; you have to turn the motor the other direction, only a few millimeters (less than 1/2 inch) and the tab will click right out and the motor will fall downward.
DARRIS SMITH you just push the tab down but not to hard or you will break it..it’s like a lock to hold the blower motor in place just in case it falls out from vibration
I have an 08 so I need to modify mine to add the vent hole in the case. Can you post the service instructions you show there? I'm having a hard time getting that document.
I'm sorry I no longer have those instructions. This update with the blower motor cooling vent tube is for 2011 and up. If you have the extension tube and it mounts to the blower motor AND lines up flush to the air passage housing when mounted.. my instructions said to drill a hole through the plastic housing just big enough to allow a small piece of fuel hose (carefully not to drill in too deep, just enough to sfit the 1 inch of fuel hose). Insert the fuel hose into the hole, then position the extension tube over it and mount to the blower motor. To figure out where to drill the hole, mount the extension tube onto the blower motor when in place. Draw around the exterior of the tube where it meets up with the plastic housing (fresh air source). Im not sure what the mod would be for a 08.
@@saskgrass OK Thanks. My airbox looks just like yours except it doesn't have the hole in it for the extension tube. In 08 they did not have the motor vented from that location. I figured that it would be just as you explained but wanted to be sure there were no other issues to deal with. The part references SI doc # 3216712 but this cannot be found on line and GM says you have to go to the dealer to get it.
@@saskgrass It worked out OK. I just had to make a hole for the vent tube to fit in. Then I sealed it into the airbox with caulking. This is a much better design than what the 08 originally had. It will cool the blower motor more efficiently.
Ok I was just confused as to the part numbers you showed while trying to order the blower. I obviously want to order the correct one. There are many to chose from on Rock Auto. Could you have not just used the old one off the old blower?
@@ranger4327 I did.. The reason I bought the new one was because I hadn't seen mine yet. I didn't know it already was updated. The dealer sold me the new tube because my year was the change over. Since it was already using the tube I just returned it.
If you have a volt meter or tester check if you have power at the fan. Check for blown fuses or relays. The location should be in the manual. Sometimes the control on the dash can go bad too. Best of luck.
Chris Wutzke if it’s the resistor that’s bad then it would only work on certain heat speed settings..quick dirty test to see if it’s the blower motor is to hit it with something and see if it will turn on

When I changed out the blower motor it worked again. Also the old motor would run if I spun it past the dead contact area.

what if my factory has the tube, but I ordered the one without. will it be ok? or should I get the correct one?

How do you know that the motor is the issue and not the relay.
Shot in the dark. I knew I could return the motor if it wasn't the problem.
I guessed too. The resister is the cheaper part, so I replaced it first. But it turned out to be the motor.
See if there’s 12 volts at the fan plug when you turn on the fan

you are very wrong and the size was completely different you need to list some of the size and place the camera right
