    Would be more honest to show the same brick at the end that was being cleaned, check the mortar pattern of the surrounding bricks

    I've been trying to clean a very soft brick lately. I used muriatic acid. It took 2 hits of 12oz/gal, then one hit of 28oz/gal, plus elbow grease to get the excess mortar and plaster off. It looks great for what it did, but it didn't do a thing to the paint.

  • @cpsheedy
    @cpsheedy 5 років тому +8

    Beg to differ with these guys, but here's what you do...if the paint is dry, you can use a brush with steel bristles (like a grill brush) to remove it. You can blot up any remaining amount with paint thinner or turpentine. Case closed.

    Brick acid is only used for mortar stains by desolving the lime content. It does not touch paint. The only way really is to grind off with a graffiti diamond grinder. Piss poor trick at the end of the vid btw

      I see why you would say that although to not damage the actual brick, I think a think a soft brush high rev silicate suspension would be better. Diamond would definitely work but lend to possible loss of sealant if any had been applied. One can easily get a huge batch of opal potch fairly cheap and use simple diamond Dremel wheels or a tile saw. to grind some powder down. To be clear not talking hydrated and carbide, just plain old silica to reduce hardness.

    totally different brick. Just looking at it, shows the cement between bricks isn't even correct, the brick it self is different. Wowsers. Sooo your saying that product doesn't actually work? Bit of a screw up...

  • @PamelaWilsonLipscomb
    @PamelaWilsonLipscomb 10 років тому +7

    I noticed the brick was different, and I'm a girl! At the end of the video, I said hey! They probably used a clean brick that didn't have any paint on it to show how clean you can get it! It would have taken a lot more elbow grease to get the paint off that brick for the short video. But good to know what to use if you need it!

    what you can do is use a cup brush and gentely touch the drip for just a half second. i did this on slate patio stones . got the paint off and no damage to the slate.

    Brick cleaner is hydrochloric acid.
    Bit of paint stripper and high pressure washer might be better staying away from mortar joints?

    you're absolutely right. I had to watch this video twice after reading your comment. If you freze the video at 1:12 you'll notice the brick at his eye level to look exactly like the brick on the final result. notice the bit of mortar on that brick on 1:12 ? LOL . what a crock of crap THAT PRODUCT IS ! you must have ninja eyes to have spotted that. Ha!

  • @dineshshah
    @dineshshah 11 років тому +1

    Oh dear - the technique might work but the 'result' brick is definitely not the same as the brick with paint. Hover between 1:48 & 1:49 and play spot-the-difference. You'll easily see they are different bricks!

    That product is not for removing paint. Obviously. The acid eats calcium carbonate (typical mortor stains) from sloppy brick jobs. For paint removal use a paint stripper product. That with a very very light pressure wash should do the trick as long as the bricks are still solid.
