    Professional ESS installer here.
    Really solid work connection wise.
    I couldn’t tell if this was going in your house or an RV. But one thing I’d do is encase the Li-Ion cells in something less flammable than a wooden box. If you ever have a thermal runaway or short, that wooden encasement is tinder for a battery fire.
    Some jurisdictions here where I’m at in CA are requiring fire suppression systems in homes and businesses where storage systems are. The industry is actually moving away from Li-Ion.
    Great work tho!

      @@kr-lp2nj Yes most manufacturers are, but the building departments got a bad taste from li-ion so the codes are becoming really strict. They are even getting tough on installing them in your garage without expensive fire alarms.

      @@magikplanofficial This is correct. Getting the permitting for my 24kWh ESS was a nightmare that went on for months after the rule changes in June or July 2021. Absolute nightmare. Even though I was installing Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, I would up having to install them outside, instead of inside the garage where I preferred to have them. They said in order to install inside the garage, I would either have to retrofit my entire home for sprinklers or have a "state approved" heat detector, which at the time of my installation in Jan '22, simply did not exist.

      @@magikplanofficial LFP is still lithium ion lol. Yes it is much safer, but the industry isn't "moving away from lithium ion". It's just evolving to use safer li ion that uses safer materials (at the cost of less energy density)

      Everyone should be made to watch a house burn to the ground to quite get the flavour of it. I have seen two [No I did not start them].
      All my electronics designs and builds are done putting fire safety above all because of what I saw with those two houses. It scared the hell out of me.
      I did a lot of work on hybrid vehicles 40 years ago and saw what happens with rogue batteries.
      While I admire what this lad is doing with his clean install and beautiful workmanship, I would be putting this in a steel closet lined with cement sheeting so it has NO CHANCE of burning down anything. You could then fit that inside you garage.
      I admire you work and professionalism in fitting this Zai.
      Best wishes from Australia.

    This panel can put out close to 100 watts ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

    There's enormous battery capacity for what appears to be a relatively small load. You're feeding that small load center with what looks like #10 SO cord, using (14) low amperage (probably) circuit breakers. It seems like the battery is overkill but I like it. Battery inverters like Tesla's Powerwall are too expensive and undersized IMO. Thanks for the video.

    Do you think it’s a good idea to have that many un encased LiPo cells inside a residence? I’d be thinking of having it in an auxiliary building. Were the buss/jumpers all fed from the same end instead of diagonally? Gloves are a good idea but safety glasses can save your eyes. That much potential can vaporize a good chunk of metal if you have a moment of distraction.

      Was thinking the same thing.
      Just saw a news story of Tesla power wall fire. If Tesla can’t get it perfect, we all should be taking more care.
      I can recall the diy ebike scene building batteries and chargers, discovering battery fires. Then people realised batteries needed to be charged in fire safe containers. Old bbqs, steel drums, concrete bunkers, non flammable fibre board fire barriers.
      Some people even set up sand bags as fire extinguishers to smother the flame and smoke.

    • @ZaiFuchigami

      Its been done before but the main limiting factor is cost. At full pack voltage the output connector will read around 400VDC, at this voltage its very difficult to find inverters and chargers that can handle such high voltages. Almost all battery systems max out at around 48VDC nominal so finding relatively affordable (under 10K) inverters and chargers is easier.

    • @ZaiFuchigami
      @ZaiFuchigami  3 роки тому +2

      Puncture is pretty much impossible as it’s stationary and there isn’t something really sharp that could penetrate the cells. Overcharge is also unlikely as both the BMS and charge controller would have to fail to let the voltage get above 4.2v/cell. If you’ve seen any Tesla fire you can see that the steel casing doesn’t really help to stop it.

    Purchase costs with huge markups, exorbitant installation costs, maintenance/repairs, and then battery replacement costs. I'm not sure this will pay off even in the long run, but it's a sure thing that it will take a decade or two for the average homeowner to see any real savings.

    • @ZaiFuchigami
      @ZaiFuchigami  Рік тому

      You're right about the long return on investment. But I didn't do this to save money. If that were the goal, this would be the worst thing I could do.
      I did this to be independent from the grid and to have a more reliable and cleaner supply of power, which are issues in my area.
      Technically there were no markups or installation costs because I build it and installed it myself. Haven't done any major repairs or maintenance in over 2 years.

      Thinner cables possibly. For a given power, if you can increase the voltage the current reduces and the cables can be thinner, cheaper and more flexible.

    Typically, fuse resistance should be extremely insignificant. In the milliohms range.

      They were some cheap Chinese ANL fuses from eBay that had very loose tolerances. Similar fuses (probably from the same factory) were marketed as "audio" fuses for cars. Learnt my lesson to never use cheap Chinese parts for any large scale build. I've since swapped out the Chinese Tomzn DC MCBs for Blue Sea Systems 187 series breakers.

    Looks like a Fire 🔥 Trap Set Up. Those batteries where housed in a metal case with coolant for a reason. No space between batteries or cross ventilation..... people will see what 😳 you've done and think it is normal, except able and adequate.. It Is Not !!!!! Pretty clear you have no permits if this is in a building!!!!

    • @ZaiFuchigami
      @ZaiFuchigami  3 роки тому +4

      I've said this in many comments before. The battery modules don't need cooling as they do not get hot or even warm. The reason it has coolant when installed in the car is that the motors pull hundreds of kilowatts when running so that cells need to be cooled down.. So since I'm pulling 100X less power than when it was in the car, the batteries are not stressed and don't heat up.
      The main reason why the modules are housed in a steel casing with the titanium plate at the base, is to prevent any punctures from damaging the pack and to keep water and dust out. of course it also serves as structural rigidity for the chassis and some fire containment. When in building there's no chance that a puncture will occur and its also shielded from rain and dust. Its not a fire trap. I've designed multiple layers of safety in the system.
