sharing the stadium doesn't really effect the vibe here in NY/NJ because the fan base is split in the area. Both fan bases are in NY,NJ and Connecticut

As a jets fan from Long Island, I wish, But The jets headquarters also relocated to jersey not too long after metlife was completed. I doubt they would leave that facility after paying millions to build it. Jets should've moved to Queens (next to citi field) from the Beginning!

I am sure the Jets would love to get their own stadium but that is a difficult proposition in NY with the even greater expense for construction and other competing interests in the area. Since there is no plan I don't expect anything to change. One thing I wonder is how long do you think the Chargers will stay at SoFI. Given that the egos of NFL owners can be bruised easily, do you think Dean Spanos will be content to be a tenant there long term? After seeing the Rams team value skyrocket since Sofi was completed and the Chargers team value is in the lower half of the league. I suppose that is true of a lot of teams given all the news about renovations and new stadium construction in recent months.

06:20 not really, Atlanta United get better attendance than the Falcons in Mercedes Benz Stadium and Charlotte fc and Seattle sounders also get good attendance. The teams just have to market themselfes better. I think long term speaking it actually makes sense to me to build that 80k stadium with nycfc because soccer is the biggest growing sports and nycfc have been very good in the last few years and long term its better if they already build a big stadium instead of a small one which will as time continues become way too small for the team.

Atlanta United does not have better attendance than the Falcons, look up the numbers. But they do draw well, as do Seattle & Charlotte. Those 3 teams have no current need to necessarily leave their NFL stadiums. But there is no way NYCFC needs an 80k-seat stadium to play in for the next 50+ years at least. By the time they command the kind of numbers for a stadium that big it would already be too old of a building.

The problem with Queens right now is crime. Crime has been going up, still nowhere near the levels of 1970’s and 1980’s. The old joke was how many cars would be stolen at Yankees games amongst the NYPD during those decades. If I was the owner of NYCFC, I would be ready to sue the city for negotiating in bad faith over the stadium deal. That team wanted to leave ‘current’ Yankee Stadium for a soccer-specific stadium. If the Jets are offered an expanded version of NYCFC stadium, they failed in their quest. I would alert the MLS is a possible immediate move from New York.
However, the Jets have too much invested in East Rutherford. Their facility is ‘nearby’ (traffic in North Jersey makes ‘across the street’ seem like a transcontinental trip). The Johnson family, who owns the Jets, are located in New Jersey as well as most of their investments. The NY Giants have more to gain right now, if they leave NJ. This is due to the fact that the Tisch and Mara families are not as entrenched in the state as the Johnson family.

03:38 There's nothing to look at. Its the Meadowlands. There's nothing to see, except the Meadowlands Arena or that American Dream thing. If you're thinking about the Manhattan skyline, its too far away to get a good view. You can see it, sort of, from the upper deck, but its pretty far. If MetLife was right across the river, it would have an awsome view, but E. Rutherford is too far inland.

2030 is the feasible timeline for the Jets to move away from Metlife Stadium. They moved their HQ their and have a half interest in the stadium as whole, this really begs the question of "Who is going to buy that?" The Giants are the likely option and this would give the Giants 100% control over Metlife and the surrounding area.
The Westside plan seems to still be viable and the valuation of the Jets going up allows the Johnsons to have more equity leverage to pay for the property and build a stadium without requiring tax payer dollars. If I remember right there were 3 or 4 different concept sketches built for that project and all of them were relatively unique and would give the Jets a home for the next 35-40 years.
All of this being said, it would actually benefit the Jets to find another resident to share the stadium with. A MLS or USL soccer team would help keep the stadium used and would allow the Jets flexibility because of a reduction in costs.
Just an observation and comment about the New England Revolution: Foxborough is a 35-50 minute drive from Boston, asking fans to do that 8-9 times a season to watch the Patriots is certainly different than asking the Revolution fans to do it 16-17 times a season. The atmosphere looks absolutely miserable because ... it is. A stadium that was designed to 'hide' the additional seating may actually work. For example, the Jets design their stadium so that the lower bowl and suites are the only two sections required to seat roughly 25,000-35,000 people. Tarps could easily be placed over the upper deck to 'add' to the experience of the soccer (2nd tenant) club fans and not 'subtract'. Also, semi closed stadiums have a much more intimate feel than open football stadiums. The more soccer style design would actually be a pretty good venue for both sports and therefore a net positive to the NY area. Dual stadiums will always deal with the marketing issues, having "Jets" plastered all over the stadium when MLS fans are utilizing it isn't ideal but those are small things to work through given a 2.5-3 billion dollar stadium.

Some of us have been talking for a while now that the Jets window to a brand new stadium is coming and opening up and they can realistically move back into NYC especially in Queens where we just had the UBS Arena built for the NY Islanders. I think that's their realistic location although Manhattan's West Side Stadium project back in the 2000s would've been cool, but I know James Dolan would fight against it being built and taking events away from MSG. They should build a state-of-the-art domed stadium, I do think they're going to have to stay at ugly MetLife for a few more years as it's going to take time to plan up a realistic location to build this stadium at as I think in the 2030s is when we can realistically finally see the Jets move away from a Giants owned stadium for the first time since 1984.

And while folks may complain about transportation between the 5 boroughs of NYC and Jersey. The venue in East Rutherford, is no different than the Rams and Chargers playing in Inglewood. Teams that share stadiums actually have big advanteges over the rest because they each get more stadium at half the cost. Sharing investments gives them the edge. This puts MetLife stadium in a position to be fully paid for long before any other new stadium. In Unity there is strength. Los Angeles was so impressed with the 2 team system of MetLife Stadium - It actually motivated them to get a 2 team stadium themselves and bring the NFL back to LA. Look how well that worked out.
Like it or not these shared stadiums are actually working and is setting the example on what it means to help the economy. Single team stadiums COSTS more tax dollars. Shared stadiums SAVES more tax dollars. Even The Allianz Arena in Munich Germany has 3 soccer teams sharing that stadium and are doing well.
The Dallas Cowboys had a chance to build a shared stadium with the Houston Texans, But turned it down flat. The results, A stadium that has Arlington overpaying tax dollars to a stadium, A retractable roof, and even the big scoreboard. Not enough revenue left over to do much improvements to the traffic roads, parking or public transportation. Now they're falling behind with failures hosting major events because of such heavy discomforts to fans. Face it - They blew it. Many teams could learn from the Cowboys mistake.
