Celtic fan here, rip Mr Smith, Mr Rangers. You were a Scottish legend. Rivalry may be permanent but so is class...and you were sheer class. Sorry for your loss Bears.
well said sir, he was a rangers manager, but an out and out gentleman to family and friends, for him and ally to carry tommy burns coffin into the chapel says it all , tommy celtic through and through and walter will have some chats up above, 2 taken far too soon
Growing up in the 90s supporting Rangers you kind of took everything for granted and never really realised as a young boy how good a manager he was. It wasn't until he came back for a 2nd spell I realised his true genius and how good he really was. Not only that how highly he's spoken off by others you know he was an even better man. As rangers fans we owe this man a great debt. Rest easy Walter ❤🤍💙 RIP Gaffer
Thank you Walter. The end of Ally's story really got me: I don't think I'll ever forget what Walter did, And I don't think I'll forget what Walter said, But I can guarantee ye, I will never, ever, ever forget how that man made us all feel Walter, we love you to bits, thank you very much for the memories SIMPLY THE BEST
That's the bit that got me too Callum. Ally McCoist is a hilarious man, but his emotion and love for Walter Smith is so obvious. I hope we see Walter's like sometime again at RFC. But he had such unique ability as a manager and a man, I doubt we ever will.
Hibs fan but just wanted to say RIP Walter, he gave Scotland back some pride at a low moment and always carried himself with class and dignity at Rangers.
Legend is just too underwhelming a status for Walter , he was so much more than that ..He was a colossus of the game and meant so much to so many people… Ibrox will never be the same place without him . On a personal note , thank you for everything Walter , you gave me my love for Rangers .. You will always be my first thought when someone mentions the club. I send my deepest condolences to everyone , followed with my thoughts and prayers to all your family and friends . Thank you for everything, you were a true great .. such a gentleman but with the heart of a lion ! .. Rest easy gaffer .. You will always be the Greatest Ranger in my eyes !
Walter Smith a true Rangers man and mentor to many, a man who left a positive impression on everyone who met him, for most of all he was a decent and honourable human being. We’ll miss you Walter but you shared with us and gave us great memories.
This is just wonderful listening of the stories about Walter from Alan Fraser, John Gilligan, Andy Cameron and all the people who spoke. Novo's penalty and the final in Manchester were great memories, but my best memory of Walter was at Tannadice 7 May 1997, when Rangers clinched a ninth Scottish league title in a row with a win over Dundee United, that was the best ever , thanks Walter.
Rest easy gaffer you gave me and all the Rangers family some of the best memories of our life’s memories We’ll cherish and will live with us forever. All We can say is thank you Walter 💙🔴⚪️🔵
I was Born in 84, so Walter Smith was my 1st Rangers manager I could appreciate when I was old enough. He signed Gazza at a time when I was obsessed with playing like him. Nothing but magical memories for me as a fan. This is a brilliant contribution for the man by the club.
Reverend Doctor Mark E. Johnstone knocks it out of the park with this introduction. Sort of guy who gives the Church a good name. Worthy of a man we will all miss.
I grep up a Celtic supported in the 80s and 90s and always remember the respect everyone in Scottish football had for Walter Smith. You can't ask any more than a manager to lead your nation regardless what your own views are. These events bring it al back to reality and remind us that humans can cross barriers
Thank you to Walter's dearest family and Rangers Football Club for allowing the fans access to this beautiful service of remembrance and celebrating the life of the man we all held dear as Sir Walter Smith 💙 🙏🏼❤ God rest him and bless the Smith family 🙏🏼💙 Lovely Reverend credit to the church
A beautiful service, some funny and touching stories, Walter really was one of the good guys - even though he made my growing up in the 90s largely a misery! I remember seeing him carry Tommy Burns' coffin, such a wonderful expression of friendship across the divide, from then on I had nothing but respect for the man, and his legacy speaks for itself, RIP from all at Celtic A-Z
They knew I was on a balanced diet ‘a sausage roll in each pocket’ that’s outstanding I’m sure Walter would love that🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
Absolute icon of the game Took Rangers to new heights in the 90s Gave Scotland back some credibility and spine Rescued Rangers after the LeGuen disaster. Legend 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 RIP
Watching this memorial has taught me 1 thing try and help people and help bring out the best in them and u will be well thought of ..he was a great coach and a leader and his name alone 1 will never forget what a legend
A most beautiful service for a great man. Will always be remembered as a great servant of the club and a good family man. Thankyou Walter. God keep you untill the day of our Lord. RIP.

PAKIstani Celtic FC fan here. I had the privilege to meet Walter Smith as a G4S steward working at the car park on near Paisley Road West - sorry I cannot remember the name - but he was an absolute gentleman. A new steward stopped him from entering the car park as he did not recognise him, so I went up to assist and recognised him and told the steward he was the ex-Rangers FC manager and is a legend in Scottish football. I apologised to Walter Smith and he said its okay because many of the stewards - like many employees - come and go and not many stewards are football fans as most are either students or folk who are working temporarily to get by and was absolutely understanding. That being said I told him that I am a Celtic FC fan and extended my hand to shake his hand and told him that I have no problem with the Rangers FC as I have enough problems in my life and he shook my hand saying just stay true to who you are and love your club and he admired my attitude towards him. You may have gone but you are still a legend to me and thanks for the chat. R.I.P Walter Smith.
Beautiful quote from Coisty at the end there, always knew he was well read. Walter - you were my childhood, 9 in a row with ma parents, every game home and away. Thank you Sir Walter, rest in peace.
An amazing tribute and memorial for an amazing man. Each speaker paid heartfelt words and truths. I could have listened to more and more. That's the life and legacy you want to leave: when you pass, people only have good words to say about you. Walter lived that life. God rest him.
R.I.P. sir Walter amazing how one man. A man from a scheme in Glasgow can bring so much joy to thousands of people not just one side off the city but the whole world 🌎. Ok mainly Rangers supporters 😂. As people spoke about him it’s his family must be so proud as they played a big part in the man he was. Thanks for my memories sir
Such a lovely and heartfelt memorial service. Listening to everyone’s stories about Walter, made you think you knew him well. He will be sorely missed and it’s still hard to think of him gone, but he’ll never be forgotten that’s for sure. Thanks for the memories Walter. You’re Simply the Best ❤️🤍💙
A brilliant memorial of a great man and genuine human being loved and adored by all the rangers family and great loss to Scottish and English football , rest in peace Mr Smith and may god bless you .
Thank you so much Walter. I’m 42 now but the 9yr old me of 1991 who sat in the Copland road and had the utter privilege of seeing you stamp your genius on the scottish game wants to personally thank you. When Hateley bagged that header to win the league your journey to infamy began and your legacy will never end. That wee boy wants to thank you and although he’s long gone he wants to tell you this. You made that wee boys childhood very special and the man he is now will be sure to do his best to tell all the future teddy bears just how pivotal and special you really were.
Along with Mr Struth, you’re the greatest Ranger gaffer and thank you for everything that you did for our beloved club. I hope that we always honor your memory. 🙏🇬🇧
Cutting onions watching this. Everybody felt like they’d lost a genuine family member. Even though I never met the man personally. The way it hit when the news broke was heartbreaking.
Love how the minister who at the beginning reminded us at such a sad time that we are the people. Walter the great. No manager will ever come close to this legend. Not even jose mourinhio
A man who taught me what Rangers was all about, set the standards high, and still has me looking for those same standards now. Thank you for showing me when I was just a young boy exactly why I was right to fall in love with Rangers Football Club, Rest Easy Gaffer ❤️
A great service and special send off to our Gaffer... Growing up in the 80s and 90s was unbelievable and its all thanks to Walter... Rest in peace Gaffer, Legend 🔴⚪🔵
The Minister is such a lovely humble and genuine man, he did Walter proud, we weep and mourn his passing, but boy we have some memories to cherish, a great football man, but ever more a truley great man, loved by all, respected and revered, but loved RIP Gaffer, more than a manager, a friend to all. Rest easy
I was the same as another fan, almost identical timeline of starting to support rangers. Believe it or not it was my long passed grand dad that brought on my addiction to football and of course the famous Glasgow Rangers. I was bout primary 4 or 5 when my mum n gran used to go to bingo leaving me with my old wheelchair bound bluenose wullie, my moany old granda. Out of luck or fate that was the season we played Leeds utd in the battle of Britain champions league qualifying. And after those 2 games I was smitten. To see G Macs 1st min volley silencing ibrox then the spirit of my grandad as smiths team overturned Howard kendals English league champions with a dodgy keeper og (John lucic) and a mccoists diving header where he rose like a brick said hateley lol then the return leg. Where we absolutely dominated the English champions in a stadium with not 1 Rangers fan allowed. With the first goal being so good that if a vialli or Cantona (who was playing for leeds) it would still be talked about now. Mark hateley, 30 yards out, struck a half volley with so much power from such a distance nestled in the top corner, the only place of the goal lucic couldn't get close. Wow. Still gives me goosebumps to this day. Now I'll b honest I can't remember I'm going to say mccoist got our 2nd that night but u gotta cut me some slack I'm going from memory here of a young young lad that had had a swig or 3 of my grandad beer. And what a transformation that was. To my grandad usually giving me into trouble for being a wee torag in general, Walters Rangers had given the most 2 unlikely characters an unbreakable bond. I now couldny wait to mums bingo night cos it meant at that point me n my grandad used to watch Rangers in the champions league. Tbh I didn't knw what was happening at the time or appreciated it back then but always have in the many years since. So on the Wed before the games I used to sketch him Rangers hero's of ours and he would try his best to explain to me who and how good the Leeds players we had disposed off, like Strachan, mcallister Cantona speed etc then after that try n teach me bout the marseilles side. The likes of rudi volley, deschamps, desailly. Honestly it was such an education and such an emotional time in my life cos my grandad died a few years later. That was after I actually witnessed the wheelchair bound war hero bounce out his wheelchair when Scott Nisbet fluked it against brugge at ibrox with THAT goal. Plus seeing his celebrations from goals like mcswegan, hateley, durrant in the marseilles games. Marseilles the team that won it by bribing refs n players but could not beat Walters Rangers. This was my first memory of Walter Smith and I'd like to thank him for those times. They initiated my obsession of rangers. I was just devastated we didn't have season's like that every year which I admit I was still young n daft enough to thought was the norm And then allowing me to see my team at the etihad (I got lucky in the draw n had final ticket at the 1/4s) in a European cup final. Walter u have given me the best football experiences ever in my life. U will never b forgotten A genuine Rangers legend 💙 👏 RiP Walter Smith 😢 🙏 💔

I met Walter at his parents house in Gardenside Avenue in 1988. His childhood friend was visiting from Canada and I was friends with a relation of his (Colin Reid), we went up to visit Walters parents and Walter turned up. As a Rangers fan it was awesome.
Beautiful service 💙 lots of lovely words, funny stories and great memories. I laughed and cried during this but Ally's final words really touched me, we will never forget how he made us feel... that is 100% correct, thank you gaffer for all the memories ❤
A magnificent human being mr rangers dignity and compassion ozzed out of the boss sorely missed loved him beyond belief a proper manager loved by the rangers fraternity the godfather of rangers respected and loved.
RIP Walter Smith. I dare say there have been good Rangers managers and no doubt there will be more to come, Gio is exciting. It has to be said that no Rangers manager will ever have a place in my heart the way Walter Smith does. He was the Gaffer I grew up watching and his team's had guts, spirit and were winners. Walter was a winner through and through in life. Great man. Will always be missed but never forgotten. He is Immortal in blue, he was and is Mr Rangers.
Thank you to his family for giving us such a legend we as fans are forever grateful we miss you and can't wait to see you again SIR WALTER SMITH ❤ 🤍💙 right boys let's go do it for walter

As a fan of the opposition, I am happy to hear that a statue has been commissioned in his honour. What a guy!
Hibs fan but just wanted to say RIP Walter, he gave Scotland back some pride at a low moment and always carried himself with class and dignity at Rangers.
Man, I cried throughout the family’s speeches then laughed and cried through Ally’s, Andys and Sir Alex’s.

Godbless Sir Walter 9 In A Row Smith He Made All My Dreams Come True As A Fellow Bear,
I met Walter at his parents house in Gardenside Avenue in 1988.
I think today with no disrespect should be walters day leave gio till another day.x
@@susemcdonald9004 I gave Walter respect. Stop needling others for no reason. It is no time to argue or try and point score with people.
