- King Shark has been thrust into the public eye as of late. He's been in the Arrowverse via The Flash, he's set to star in the upcoming James Gunn Suicide Squad. He's been on the Harley Quinn Animated series and was mad Constantine's Ex in a Justice League Dark movie. Where does this King Shark get his start in DC Comics? Constantine gets really awkward and mentions his ex is there. Raven mentions that Harley is crazy and John says nothing. The camera pans to King Shark, who winks. Sadly, that's all there is.
I'd love a Constantine/King Shark book.

also the fact that constantine called king shark his "ex" means it wasn't just a sex scene and they didn't leave on bad terms considering king shark winked at him. it'd be an interesting comic, wether they added the more sexual aspects to it or not.

It fascinates me that King Sharks intelligence can fluctuate so drastically between adaptation because some see him as shark brained and some as human brained. Like the hulk kinda has the same thing going on but he has having a super scientist inside him as an excuse.

Superboy being an artificially aged clone only looks/acts 16, but he is much younger. So is she dating/not dating a 1-5 year old?
Yeah, but he's biologically 16 and mentally 16, so that's not the problem. The real issue here is the fact that she was 23.

Multiple superboys. They need to shift to the idea of unstable continuity just just being part of the setting. People run into alternate versions of themselves that didn't exist the previous week, and it's just not worth talking about.
I like the way they dealt with the second Wally West.
I really like this version, but I also love Hammerhead King Shark, too bad Gunn couldn't make it work, it makes eye contact a pain.
In the past several years, we've had SO MANY interpretations of him in media, like:
Assault on Arkham: Yeah, was someone's idea of a shark man.
The Flash: He's a REALLY big boy, who sounds like monsterous Solid Snake
Harley Quinn: Where he's Shark Rob Funches
Apokolips War: Very Gail Simone
The Suicide Squad: Also adorable
Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League: Played by Samoan Joe, so he has an accent, that's actually a first!
I really like the Harley Quinn Version because it’s a refusal to do the obvious trope; plus the characterisation works with the theming of the rest of the show.

I'm also pretty tired of the trope that just because I keep the same name and appearance, that should somehow gel into some kind of consistent "character" or "personality". It's a little too obvious. Just change all that shit along with the scenery and the rest of the house plants that call themselves people.

Whenever I see a “tries-so-hard-to-be-cool” character like this version of Superboy introduced to an established series (such as Superman), I can’t help but think of “Poochie” from “The Itchy and Scratchy Show”. 😎😫

There's also a shark character in/from "Infinity Inc." "Carcharo the Man-Shark was a genetic experiment by the mind behind the second Wildcat, his cousin." And in the Aquaman revamp, (when Aquaman wasn't Arthur, but some human who had somehow been changed to breath water (and Arthur had been changed into a squid headed man)) there was another Shark character who kinda helped the new Aquaman somehow (it's been a long time). And there's a Batman villain, the Great White Shark.
Marvel also had their Shark-themed villains. Aside from Tiger Shark, they had a World War II character called the Shark who showed up in 1977 in Invaders Annual #1 where he - um - stripped Namor of his swimming trunks to give them to the Nazis.
I know this is a King Shark video but I love the 90s Superboy comics! I wish DC would bring back his extra fuck boi leather jacket wearing persona. I love to see u cover him too since the 2000s and 90s are practically two different characters

I'm actually really down for kon El, and conner Kent, having some sort of team up after they fight. It'd be cool to see two supes who actually have someone who understands how it is.

As I recall from the issue, they weren't actually nude - Superboy was using x-ray vision on them all (and the artists just embraced their chance to represent it)

I love 90s Superboy so much. Doesn't hurt I was 9 when Superman died and read the Reign of the Supermen at that impressionable age. Sasha I would love to hear you dive into the insanity that was the "superhero team" Superboy and The Ravers.

It's a naming issue. Speedsters have a ton of options when it comes to copyrightable names, sharkguys are shark guys. "The Shark?" Considering how names should work, The Shark shouldn't even be a shark, he should be a shady loan SHARK. This is why Wolverine isn't a wolverine.
King Shark is at least a cross between a name and a title.

King Shark is the freaking best! I love all the iterations of him. He's great in The Flash on CW and in the Harley Quinn animated series and I've just always really enjoyed seeing him in things. I don't really have a favourite version but I do really hope the Gunn version of him isn't just "he dumb".

Loved this series when I was younger. I always remember Superboy fighting with a villain in the sea and realizing that he didn't know whether he was swimming up to the surface to get air or deeper in the depths to his death. If you want a comic that was way into the 90's youth culture then check out the X-Force Road Trip Years which I think started with issue 70. It was Road Rules before Road Rules or at least The Real World with super powers. B~)

I love the concept of a hyper evolved shark because sharks have been basically the same for millions of years. Fast forward a shark's evolution for a few million years and... You're still just gonna end up with a shark. They pretty much peaked eons ago

That's Humberto Ramos? I barely recognized it from the eyes. He draws in a more surreal and expressive style now, and I like it a lot.
As long as they don't make Sidearm resurface. But seriously, I feel they missed quite a bit with Blackest Night and Tana Moon. It would've been interesting to see a story about old love during that story.
King Shark showed up on the CW's The Flash before Suicide Squad and Harley Quinn. They were the trend setters.
I think King Shark will definitely become extremely popular after The Suicide Squad. He'll kinda be the Groot in Gardians of the Galaxy for this movie. He's a big adorable Shark that I can definitely see becoming a fan favorite.

Sasha, I love your content and how you present it... but I have to correct you. Superboy from the 90's is one of my favorite characters, I started collecting comics starting with the death of Superman, and I have every issue of the 90's run. Superboy started with issue 1 (Feb 94). Issue 0 (Oct 94) falls between issues 8 (Sep 94) and 9 (Nov 94), as it was part of the "Zero Hour" event, and all DC titles had an issue 0 in between their regular issues. Still a fan of your channel!

I have the Superboy book King Shark first appeared in. But until a few years ago, I didn't know that was his first appearance. I thought he was a old character.. who know?!?..lol
I feel like for superboy specifically having so much back stories being younger and in titans and stuff it's easy to associate him fighting batman villains. But he's also part superman so it makes sense he's fighting superman villains. I get it. I could see why him vs any bad guy would kinda work.
