Scott Harrison was working as a nightclub promoter in New York when he became “morally bankrupt.”
He sold all of his belongings and set sail to Africa in an effort to redeem himself. He returned to New York with one goal: to provide clean water to everyone on earth.
Twelve years later, he’s raised over 320 million dollars and provided water to people in 26 countries with his nonprofit charity: water.
Scott now finds worth in how much money he can raise for others, not for himself.
Listen to Episode 700 to learn what makes a nonprofit successful and how anyone can turn their life around find meaning and fulfillment.
    Some Questions I Ask:
Is your focus on micro-donations or cultivating relationships with big donors? (11:58)
Do you think you’d raise as much money as you have if you were in a different city? (23:30)
How do you start after you make the goal of providing everyone with clean water? (37:00)
What does it mean to be pure? (40:00)
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your last twelve years of service? (44:30)
How important is it for a business owner to tell a story really well? (50:20)

I showed the 20min video to my 6yo son. He couldn't believe it was real and that kids were drinking dirty water. I said think about them every time you want to complain we don't have juice in the fridge. We don't have much compared to the average of the other families where we live but we live in luxury compared to people who dies of dirty water and I wish I could bring my kids over there for them too see it is not a fiction movie it is real. I now have a very powerful motivation to become a successful affiliate marketer, I live from bottles donations and eat from the food bank at the moment have no other income and I promise I will make this possible and I will make sure I make wealthy friends and encourage them to donate too on my way. It wont be to buy juice but to buy wells and latrines. Thank you so much for this Scott and Lewis your amazing show it truly gives people purpose.

Wow. That's the Life, Scott. Thank you Lewis for sharing this super encourageing example. That's some material for big and shiny dreams. (I listened on my mobile in the dark for some inspiration before going to sleep, getting much more than expected. Faith restored, big time...) I guess I don't want to miss out on future updates from Scott, so I'll better sign up for Spring 😀⛲ as soon as I get back to the bigger screen tomorrow. Love from Germany.

This project is amazing. I can't believe that Credit card companies won't support it by cutting the fee for the donation. Wouldn't that be a great thing for the companies too when they could tell that they support you with that?

How did Charity Water build a successful brand?
When Harrison founded charity: water, he set out to create a great brand that revolved around storytelling with multimedia, inspiring people through highly-sharable content, and connecting people to the impact of their donations, always using beautiful design.

It would be nice if someone likethis would focus on places in A metrics that have no water. If you do not know where to look let's focus on Flint Michigan. Or ask a native American.

As a civil engineer specializing in water infrastructure and someone who recently completed a water main replacement involving lead service lines, I can tell you it simply does not correlate to the work they do. They fundraiser to drill wells in areas with no infrastructure and likely no bureaucracy in place to prevent work from moving forward. Now think Flint. Existing infrastructure everywhere, needing to dig up everyone’s water service line, needing contractors, money from local government, incentives, programs, taxes.... need I go on? It’s out of their realm and not in their scope. They don’t even have civil engineers on staff. It’s not what they do.

Why do you artificially divide overhead and drilling donations? I know it's good marketing to say that 100% of donations go to projects, but overhead is really important. It includes recruitment, advertising, and all other essentials. Why leave that out? Your setting a bad example and making other charities seem suspect when they only have 91% or 92%. Not cool. I raised $520 for your organization, and I'm glad I did, but now I wish you'd change this ridiculous separation of overhead and public donations.
