"Trains" recently went on strike and during that strike the foreign owners still got paid even tho the service wasn't running at 100% I can bet you the US probably has similar deals with China, it's part of China's belt and road initiative.

If you watch more of these clips, many Republicans want straight answers. Democrats continually pivot away from the matter at hand and try to go back to Trump or to attack witnesses they consider enemies.

For far too long, the standard response in Congressional hearings has been, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS!" The filibuster was supposed to be reserved for Senators, not witnesses!

How do we have so many people in leadership positions in this country that are completely incompetent. If the best the government has are being put forth in these hearings what are the rest of government employees like.
Most government employees are completely competent and hard working. The problem comes from the political appointees at the top of the pyramid. Most of these people only seem to care about themselves and their next step up. Their jobs literally depend on acting this way. If they don't they will be replaced.

I personally believe that anyone who refuses to give a straight and concise answer to a direct and easy question should be immediately labeled incompetent in their field, and the only stipulation to this is, if the person answering said question asks for the ability to give an explanation as an additive after their answer is given to then not waste the time of those who have the floor. Get asked a question, answer directly and abruptly, and then ask if an explanation can be given, if denied, move on. stop wasting the floor's time.

I've got a crazy idea, we should pour a whole bunch of money into developing a device, maybe the size of a book, that people testifying could use to access the info they are responsible for managing, that way when they get asked a question, by the way the questions are given to them before they appear, they could pull up that info, instead sitting there insulting are intelligence.

China has been exporting large power transformers to the U.S. at competitive prices. Its domestic transformer market is showing signs of overcapacity. A DOE report in 2014 said that there are about 30 manufacturers in China that can produce transformers of 220 KV or kilovolts and above, and large international manufacturers such as ABB were setting up factories in China.
Charles Durant, deputy director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Counterintelligence Office, noted in 2019 that over the past decade, more than 200 Chinese large power transformers have entered the U.S. energy system.

The man who was supposed to be answering the questions never did give the information the man asking the questions was asking for. He spoke about information close to the subject but never gave the information that was requested.
My original sarcastic statement was in regards to the fact that an instructor would not accept that kind of answer from someone they were instructing.

Why did you rescind the order to stop buying electrical components from China? His non-answer to that question was the most disturbing of all.
When I worked for Boeing (now retired) every task and project we had included a schedule with dates and milestones of when each task was to be finished. Of course, we sometimes missed dates and had to recover. But the government has no incentive to complete tasks or studies on time or within budget. They get rewarded when they don't with more money.

I think Josh Hawley was obviously asking the right questions. As a staunch conservative, I want answers too. But the answer, as the person in the hot seat answered, is a lot more complex and could not be answered simplistically in percentage terms.
These are extremely complex pieces of equipment, with various components within, having varying amounts of risk to the grid. Primarily the electronics and the firmware that drives the equipment……the “brain” so to say. So what they’re doing is a sub-component level, risk-based analysis…..the right approach. Unfortunately, that could not be shoe-horned into a nice sounding sound-byte for the simple-minded to get, and this official unfortunately got roasted for that.
Hawley probably have allowed a better explanation and could've figured it out more quickly if we didn't get fucking word salads and stonewalling!
