Because of the A-1 Skyraider and the pilots who flew them two of my uncles are alive today. Both of them ran recon missions in Vietnam at different times and often times they had to extract under heavy fire. Sandy's saved them, Thank you Douglas Aircraft for making a great aircraft.
There's a reason she's the predecessor to the A-10.
One of my favorites....but oh my hell, announcers need to shut their pie holes during the actual fly by! Always!
But instead, they do all the opposite raising their voice as if people were actually paying them any attention.
Nice. I forget which year it was, but there was an operational Skyraider at my local air show. It was part of a string of years featuring different prop planes (Mustang, Corsair, and Wildcat).
I saw a Skyraider today at the Wings Over Houston air show. I didn't know that it could take off with more payload than the plane actually weighs. What a badass airframe!
One of the best ground attack aircraft ever
Awesome piston engine aircraft! I was always taken by the name "Bad News" on the actual Skyraider that saw service, as is seen in books on the Vietnam War.
Love the Spad. Plane looks so muscular and capable. If I was ever to get into RC, the A1 would be at the top of my list.
Put this plane and the A10 back into full production for a fraction of the cost of some of this new crap !
Agreed.
You know the reasons A10 was put into production was because they wanted Something like the A1 but more survivable in post Vietnam Era. Defense analysts concluded showed in a conventional war the A1 would be too vulnerable against war against the Warsaw pact. Even later parts of the Vietnam war the A1s were pulled from incursions into the North and relgated to Strict CAS or CSAR duties due to the saturation of heavy air defenses which already were giving Fighter Bomber jets a tough time.
Now A10' itself is Kinda obselete for modern conflicts save for lower intensity wars againt Banna Republics or against Extermist Mid east militants.
A1 is obselete. Cheaper isnt better if it means producing something inferior and obsolete. A10 may have been more expensive but It was hands down better in Ever regard.
My old man flew both of them salty warbirds!
K Cz I believe for cas in the modern battlefield such as Afghanistan Iraq Syria where aa threats are minimal the a1 would be just as effective as the a10
Totally impossible, because the tooling for the A-10 is, for the most part, no longer available, and the Skyraider ended production, back in the mid to late 50's, so there's no way DOD can order new versions of those two fighters, ever, and in today's world, the Skyraider wouldn't be able to use today's precision guided munitions, and targeting sensors, along with today's avionics systems. Also, the Skyraider just wouldn't be able to protect its self, and the pilot, from today's advanced air defenses.
Great video - love those skyraiders!
The Original A-10... not enough respect for these planes imo
The first Skyraider is an AD-4NA, because of the cabin entry door on both sides of the fuselage, and the second one is an A-1H, because it doesn't have the entry doors that the AD-4NA has.
Good stuff. Love the video quality too.
Fierce and arrogant looking aircraft. Hope to see one of those flying live one day.
"Sandy Low Lead, Sandy Low Lead, This is Cole 505; Strafe what you can see and expedite, right away man"
"Roger Cole 505, Sandy flight rolling in now, heads down boys"
Hell of a movie
Great video, guys!!!!!!!
there were spads in the 91 film flight of the intruder & 2002 we were soldiers as well
PERFEITO, MOTOR BRISTOL HÉRCULES POTENTE SLIVE VALVE 🤔
Finally, a sky-raider not butchered with a tandem cockpit.
turbo prop it and put it back in action.
"When you're out of SpADs, you're out of close air support."
Fantastic plane
The "Sandies".
Great little plane considering it was built during the jet age.
ANNO DOMINI ...LITTLE plane?
It was built during the korean war, so not quite the jet age, but still kinda in the jet age. I mean they used p-51s in the korean war.
While the jet engine had been developed, and some jet warplanes had been built and seen service, prop fighters and bombers were still the norm, by far, when this plane was built: first flight was 1945. It just missed service in WW II.
Wow!!! :) Pure Power :)
In the old movie Flight of the Intruder, 2 skyraiders come out from behind the trees in slow motion, steep bank, proceed to destroy every thing in site. Hollywood but awesome just the same.
I always thought the turboprop Skyraider project should of happened. The A2D Skyshark should have been more successful in my opinion. I think it would of been a aircraft that would be useful for the military even to this day! They screwed up thinking that aircraft was obsolete because of jets.
why did he keep calling NKP Naked Fanny an AD-1? Great video!
I thought it was A-1D not AD-1 (?)
the original designation for the Skyraider was AD-1, upgrade models were AD-2, AD-3, so on so fourth, then they were renamed A-1 with upgraded models being A-1D, A-1F, you get what I mean.
I think there may have been a mix up though. Naked Fanny is an AD-4. Unless I heard him incorrectly? Maybe he said Bad News? Which is an AD-1 I believe.
sandy low sandy low
Rescue Dawn
👌👏👏👏 GENIAL
Able Dawg!!!
did close air support in SAR in vietnam real work horse of a plane........last usn sqd to ever have them was VA-25 fist of the fleet uss coral sea 1968
This had to be turkey shooting for the triple A.
It should be A S S Air Show Stuff.
Love the air shows but hate the circus barkers.
Airshow announcers are so annoying like that horrible music played at most. Just not necessary.
