I just learned this song from Hazbin Hotel pilot episode and it intrigued me cus from initially hearing the song, it sounded like the opposite of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". It was contrastly hopeless...it was depressing to listwn to so i had to listen to SOTR. Lol.
I think this may be the most poignant version, with how the lyrics seem to touch upon Judy's probably most famous song; Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I know it predates 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' but the way the two songs play against each other, as well as the events in Judy's life, just seems to bring it to another level when she sings it.
+basmatea189 Yes, it is. Several popular songs are based on classical pieces. Songs in the Broadway musical "Kismet", for example, are based on the music of Alexander Borodin. Among songs in the play are "Strangers in Paradise", which is based on his "Polovtsian Dances" from "Prince Igor" and the song "Baubles Bangles and Beads", which is from his "String Quartet No 2".
Chopin was not only a great composer and pianist but also one of the finest melodist of his time. We must think about the importance of classical music and how influenced the popular music in the last century. However, I think that also today is possible to combine classical, pop and jazz. We must meditate on this.
Judy spent her life trying to get over that rainbow! Now she is at rest! No one can interpret a song like Judy! Her vocals were very emotional! I love you Judy!
Wow, I had no idea that she did this song on her show. ‘I’m Always Chasing Rainbows’ (she originally recorded it in 1941) is one of my Judy favorites. Delighted she revisited it, this was wonderful.
The world is so much richer for having her live among us.She was a clown an actress and a consummate performer. When I think of Judy I laugh because of her wit and impishness. She gave us so much and numerous generations will Find her and know the real thing.
No one could deliver a song like The Legend! I read that on her dressing room trailer door during her series, it said "The Legend" No one delivered a song like Judy Garland! I think when young people today discover her and her immense talent and her incredible God given voice, they're really amazed. The youth of today never really heard a singer that naturally sings without auto tune, backup dancers and/or pyrotechnics or anything else to distract them from realizing their favorite artist really doesn't possess the talent they think they have. Of course like everything, there are exceptions.
Seems like an apt song for Miss Judy after reaching the top with ‘Over the Rainbow’ at a very early age in Wizard of Oz. She seemed so lost after that!
Who are the 7 imbeciles who gave this a thumbs down? Judy sang this beautifully, and never fails to evoke emotion from her audience. What is lacking in this performance? Nothing!
ppl will downvote for a million reasons.. they don't like the video quality, don't like the sound quality, etc, etc (some ppl expect 1080p from a 50yo tv show) i wouldn't read too much into it.
I love it, but for anyone who heard her sing it in Ziegfeld Girl, I can see how they might have been disappointed. She sounded like an angel with her sweet young voice, and she sang it in a completely different way. I love both but if I were forced to choose one, I would choose Ziegfeld Girl.
This must be the most poignant song sung by Judy in her later years. There is a hint of personal tragedy but it is actually a triumphant moment from her CBS TV show in 1963. We can only admire her enormous talent and wish she'd been treated with more respect by industry execs. She sang this ballad in the 1941 movie "Ziegfeld Girl" 22 years earlier. ua-cam.com/video/6CMSjI-Znc4/v-deo.html
I'm noticing that a lot of people are complaining about the "bubble." People, it's called an annotation and you can turn it off by clicking the little 'x' or by clicking the little 'turn off annotation' button at the bottom.
@sogino it actualy is very hard to tell lol, but the melody line is the same as the middle slow section of fantasie imprompty, although this one seems to use different chords and a very different tempo
I'm always chasing rainbows Watching clouds drifting by My schemes are just like all my dreams Ending in the sky Some fellows look and find the sunshine I always look and find the rain Some fellows make a winning sometimes I never even make a gain Believe me, I'm always chasing rainbows Waiting to find a little bluebird in vain I'm always chasing rainbows Watching clouds drifting by My schemes are just like all my dreams Ending in the sky Some fellows look and find the sunshine I always look and find the rain Some fellows make a winning sometimes I never even make a gain Believe me, I'm always chasing rainbows
From what I have read over the years, Judy's two sisters weren't very good singers. Judy's mother was terrible but it was Judy's very beloved father Frank Gumm, that sang good. I'm sure not as good as Judy grown up. I think Judy was young and her mother would take the Gumm sisters on the road without Her father, Judy missed him a lot. I think part of her singing sad songs or songs of longing so well is probably because she recalls those feelings as a child and really makes us feel what she feels; if that makes any sense. 😉 I often wonder how Judy's life would have turned out of her Father didn't die when Judy was 13years old? I'd like to think that he would have stopped her mother and MGM from ruining Judy's life by getting her hooked on pills and working her beyond even Judy's talent at the time.
Yes, I agree, that "speech bubble" is distracting and somewhat disrespectful of her talents. Is this a clip from her TV show, or was it a live performance in a theater?
music1109 This song is actually from Ziegfield Girl starring Lana Turner, Judy Garland, and Hedy Lemar. Judy sings it in this movie. She does it twice: once in an obnoxious loud old Vaudeville manner and once as a lovely, sweet ballad.
Charlie watching the yearly extermination in hell 1940-50 (Not colorized)
Just breaks your heart. She had a gift which she shared with us for as long as she could hold out. God Bless you, Judy.

Me too!
She Judy Garland, originally did the song in Ziegfield girls. You should look that up it’s very good.
@@jetpilot3714 youre absolutelty right, to me too, it was a better version. Thanks for recommending that rendition!
It is based on a theme from Chopin’s Fantaisie Impromptu.
It's the reverse of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"!
Very perceptive. She even mentions searching for the little bluebird (in vain).

An extraordinary singer with yet another extraordinary interpretation.

Nope, It was earlier in Ziegfeld Girl a year after Wizard of Oz

this song brings a "nostalgic" memories of my high school year....
Notice the big breaths this fabulous iconic singer takes between phrases.

Once we ignore all of the conflicting facts, it's clear that Charlie is Judy Garland.
My all-time favorite song. Thank you Judy for singing this. Your deeply loved, and sadly missed. ❤️❤️❤️
Wow beautiful,

@@lottytaylor572 No, I'm not. This performance has nothing to do with politics, only talent.
lovely voice.
That’s amazing
Beautiful ballad. I can relate. She doesn't write the songs she sings them. VERY WELL, I might add. Sit back and enjoy don't analyze.

@wr0ngbl4de yeah after i listened to it carefully i noticed that , but thanks for the clarification

Popular amongst GI’s in WWII
Middle part of Fantasie, listen to it.
@bplincoln1982 Agreed
Just click on the cross on the bubble it goes away :-)
She was my sister in Christ!
I prefer her version from "Ziegfeld Girl" from 1941, but this is still great.
Drugs hadn't ravaged her body in 1941.

What year is this one? Was it part of her TV show? :D
What key is this in?
you know you can get rid of that with 1 click...
You know you can close the balloon, right?
how in hell is this song related to fantasie impromptu of copin o.0
Why was this banned from the bbc?
?
It's not Judy Garland's song, she's just singing it.
did ac copy her?
HEYYYYYY,
most of this is a pretty much direct copy of fantaisie impromptu
Yes, I agree, that "speech bubble" is distracting and somewhat disrespectful of her talents. Is this a clip from her TV show, or was it a live performance in a theater?
It was from her 1963-1964 CBS television series.
Thank you. Too bad the series was so short-lived, but I've read the history and it seems there were a lot of production problems, unfortunately.
Robert Gold This song is actually from Ziegfield Girl starring Lana Turner, Judy Garland, and Hedy Lemar. Judy sings it this movie.
