I always find it really odd when people say something along the lines of had to read every word, I’m like isn’t that what reading is? I don’t skim read which makes me wonder if booktubers read a book in so little hours because they skim the sentences??? Like I understand skim reading in say education when you’re trying to pick up the important details for research but I don’t understand it when reading a fiction book.
I don’t skim read no, but I I was making more of an effort to purposely pronounce every word in my head rather than just reading normally if you know what I mean😭 like if a sentence is “the cat jumped over the fence” my brain goes “cat jumped fence” and my instincts fills in the filler words🤣
Some booktubers I see read books in like 3 hours that are 500 pages and I’m like how? They have to be skim reading and how much are they taking in because a speed reader is 600 words per minute so a 500 page book would take like 6.9 hours and thats a fast reader hahaha. I understand people read at different paces but some booktubers like destiny sidwell who I loved always makes me suspicious lol.
This!!! I sole-heartedly believe “speed reading” doesn’t exist and is literally just skim reading. I always had a disbelief that people can read 500 page books in just 2-3 hours because there is no way they are consuming each word/sentence in that time. And that’s the whole point of reading! I feel like booktubers are just trying to read as many books as they can to brag about it, and that might rub people the wrong way, but it’s so true. I get wanting to keep up with the latest trending book but you should have the time to fully digest it in order to really come up with an opinion/rating of it. Otherwise, you might be saying the wrong things of it and putting the wrong idea of that book out there. Also goes with the whole rating system, a lot of people are so harsh on ratings and I believe that is because they are not fully consuming a book to get a an actual review about it. Idk might be just me but I like to read slow so I’m actually reading each word even if I think it’s unnecessary, the author wrote it for a reason!
@@ellarose.readss ok yeah that makes sense, that’s more just a different way of reading so I get that. Like how some people will see what they are reading in their head like a movie playing out and others wont. I always have to read every single word as I see and feel like I hear everything playing out as like an audiobook and a movie in my head . I think some other huge booktubers actually skim whole paragraphs or scenes which I don’t get.
I sometimes skip words by accident because I'm in a weird reading slump where I either read really fast or have trouble reading 😭. I definitely skim read I'm analyzing a book that I've recently read for uni though.
Then watching your dog try to get off your bed😂 those stairs sound good, right?
I know how ironic🤣🤣
