Clapton introduced me to Robert Johnson back in the mid-80's through an Anthony DeCurtis Rolling Stone interview. I'd heard Robert's songs many times having no clue they were his. Had never heard of him till then. Great stroke of luck.
You better come on in my kitchen It's goin' to be rainin' outdoors When a woman gets in trouble, everybody throws her down Lookin' for her good friend, none can be found You better come on in my kitchen It's goin' to be rainin' outdoors
Bluesboy Jag Cigar Box Guitars, why try to change it? RJ was genius, and keepin it the same just pays homage and respect. Eric Clapton has the talent n skill to have done anything he wanted with this piece, but chose to stay true. I personally dig it. Its rare that a remake, taking a different direction, comes out better...it happens, but it is rare.
I agree, although this EC arrangement is different, it's clearly trying to get near, which is maybe your point. The fact is, Rob J and ALL of these old blues men (think of Bukka White) would NEVER have played them the same twice, so why the hell emulate one particular performance? Spoken as a slide player.
Another poor rendition of a Robert Johnson song done by Eric Clapton. I cant figure out why this guy got famouse trying to do Robert Johnson songs. HIs versions sounds nothing like Johnsons. Only time he comes close is his take of Kind Hearted Women.

Man I love Clapton. His sound is so versatile.
aint his sound
@@BB-xm6hy There is no ownership in music. Everyone plays what came before.
Loved the Allman Brothers Band cover of this ol' Robert Johnson nugget!

My MOST favorite! Eric Clapton!!!!!
Clapton was god in 1965........nothing has changed
Took Eric and his Brit Brothers to introduce us to what we were ignoring.
I bless him and those Brit Bros to filling my soul with genuine Blues!
Fully agreed.
Eric paying his respect to what we ignored and he cherished. Was a knee on the field 40 years ago?!?
The best blues ever!
Pure gold.....
Robert Jonhson the legend
You should listen the John Renbourn version, far superior
Wow what great album art🤔
great album
great rendition
Goddamn! I have to pick up this album yesterday
I love it Jonas. There are several great video versions, but something about this album version I love.
So good
I like the picture of Robert Johnson in the background.
Everybody always messes it up with more instruments, all you need is the guitar.
Yes... Robert Johnson, the original source... And Eric, the ultimate result!

David Bromberg live version is my favorite.

Not a patch on John Renbourn's version from 1971. Also, John wasn't a racist.
Clapton is still God
😉🎸😎👍
Larkin Poe do a great version also.
seems some people are just listeners and not musicians or guitar players to disrespect what Clapton has done here is bullshite...

not sure why anyone would cover this almost note for note. either create an entirely different version or don't bother, rj already did it.
Except Eric is introducing a few more to the genuine roots, as has been his mission through these decades.

The blues were meant to be interpreted by anybody.. that's what make the blues the blues
I've heard Johnson's playing is difficult to copy. Clapton proves he's up to the task.

This is good, but I prefer Gregg Allman’s vocals with just acoustics of this Johnson song.
robert johnson is God, clapton just a good arranger

Are you serious ? No one play like original when they cover certain song they cover in their own style. Use commonsense Clapton is God remember that
