Me: Hasn't played this game since high school in the late 90's. Me listening to OP's commentary: Yes, this all makes sense and I am following every word.
I get Red's mindset. Getting raided is annoying, so you pick a compact defense early on. Managing a massive economy takes concentration, which means neglecting your army management, so build just as much economy as you need. Having to patrol your lands has the same problem, so screw trying to control all the resources on the map and simply fortify an invasion route to your enemy with castles. Playing the guessing game with unit counters is for people who enjoy adrenaline, so instead just build your strongest and coolest units and don't attack until you have many. Chasing your enemy around is boring, so just roll up trebs to his base outskirts and methodically siege it down. Your opponent will maybe panic rush the trebs, so you can finally run in your army and watch a cool battle. It's the comfort food of strats and I love it.
I agree. I have won more games watching as my enemies send wave after wave of expensive Calvary into my killing fields and all I have are pikemen and and some skirmishers. I save the gold for Monks and Paladin. And finally, at the end I make some trebs and just spread them out a bit with a nice cohort of knights and pikemen. EZ game nearly every time. I love looking at my kill ratio and getting several hundred kills while losing the barer minimum. Build tall and just wait for the enemy to run out of resources.
I tried this kind of play in Red Alert multiplayer. My enemies kept paradropping engineers in my base and sold all my buildings. I have never played Red Alert multiplayer since.
This is literally the embodiment of... "Do not fear an enemy who has a thousand technique, but fear a man who practiced one technique a thousand times"
Blue's critical mistake was not taking advantage of rAm overextending with that 38th farm. AoE is about taking small advantages and snowballing them, and Varknek missed that opportunity.
37 farm build only works on HD/Voobly because of the old farming animation. 38 farm meta is where it's at in DE. T90 needs to stop pushing this false narrative that the 37 farm build order still works, smh.
Red is a military genius, even though he took his time with economy he always was miles ahead tactically and shredded blue's army multiple times over. One of the fastest turnarounds I've seen in an AoE game, outstanding stuff
Too many RTS players are overcautious. Camp behind walls and forts, build and buy and farm and mine and tech, only start looking around after they've run out of local resources building an idle massive horde with full upgrades. Too many RTS players are overaggressive. Constantly broke, spending immediately every resource to pump out just one more unit to send into war, always skirmishing and harassing and inflicting losses but also always replacing losses. Red isn't a military genius. He simply knows how to find a good balance within the rules of this game. He prefers fast units over walls and towers, they see stuff, they defend locations, they leapfrog forward a few tiles at a time, pick off stragglers, and gradually push borders into enemy turf. Even in the middle of the warzone, they're kept back to provide a defensive screen which the more powerful, specialized, costly units can retreat into during counterattacks.
The noted weak point was he was completely exposed and if Blue had sent out a raid he could have done some serious damage and maybe gotten a better opportunity to push back. But that may of come down to one of the pre battle moves red made that Blue didn't. He scouted his enemy and found the extent of his sprawl before attacking.

Agreed I noticed that too. I think playing within one’s capabilities is actually really important and underrated. Thus the corner base: eliminate two directions the enemy can approach from. Castles for conqs and position; stables for heavy cavalry. Kept things simple and linear. He has bright days ahead on arena
I think red has played a lot of single player campaigns. This is exactly the kind of playstyle one learns from those (even generally in RTS games); first you need to turtle, then you need to boom, and finally you need to push with an unkillable deathball. Kill ratio is king with a blindly spamming AI opponent with a huge initial advantage. This is by no means the only way to beat AI in RTS campaigns, but it is the one you learn first because it provides the best results with the least amount of "real competetive skill." @@matipedia_ I thought I caught this game during a live stream he had this year, but it could have been the end of ‘21! That time of year is a blur for me. Happy New Year to you as well!
Funny, I saw a 'Corner Boi' game when I was spectating the other day! It really made me see how little people scout sometimes. Spanish had almost completely wiped out a Mongols player; Spanish made a desperate Castle Drop in reaction to being raided, and it worked: a few Conquistadors, and Spanish rebuilt while eradicating the Mongol. But Mongol ended up building one, then two town centers in separate corners of the map - Spanish found the first, and really threw everything at it, only for the Mongol to keep producing on the other side. Spanish destroyed one base, but by the time he'd found the second, it had already long turned into a full base; didn't even have vision of all the production facilities when the game ended. Great game, both players exchanged who was winning and who was losing multiple times.
So, usually I'm watching Starcraft 2, and it seems that there is a correlation to some of the mistakes blue made. He got greedy focusing so much on his economy that he fell to a strong military push. If red had taken a few minutes more, sure, blue would have easily dominated any engagement, but by the time blue caught up militarily, red was already in an unstoppable position. To top it off, red's micro was phenomenal!
And more than anything, Red had a *plan* and stuck with it. In this case his plan beat the misc stuff blue threw at him, but I'm not sure what would have happened if blue had chosen better units or happened to click better upgrades earlier. Both players are still low Elo for a reason. I suspect it's because Red is too passive early, might not be able to handle a raid (we never saw one this game), and might not know how to beat the few counters to his main strategy. Blue on the other hand just upgrades everything and builds a bunch of random stuff and hopes his strong eco carries him. In many games it probably does.
Or he wasn't focusing on economy enough, especially with how he blew an obscene amount of villager time and stone in building a giant pointless wall instead of having it for more town centers. It's like playing Zerg in Starcraft 1 and putting down a hundred sunken colonies before a second hatchery.
Let's give due credit to red as well, people keep saying in the comments "if blue had done this red would've lost", I mean, first we don't know how he would've answered as that didn't happen, and second, red isn't a high elo player, the mistakes blue made were in the range of someone like red to take advantage of.
I spent 57 minutes today trying to get 10 lumberjacks to cut wood in unison... 57 MINUTES..! And right before it happens Jerry gets eaten by a wolf They ask you how you are and you just have to say that you're fine when you're not really fine.
Never played Age of Empires, and don't know how I stumbled upon your video... Hats off to you sir, I thoroughly enjoyed the commentary and analysis. You have a natural gift for discourse, really engaging content. Subscribed!
Face it, Corner Boi has read Sun Tzu and has imbibed the very essence of it. Position is key in all things. Never hold more than you can carry. Secure your camp before making your strategy. Its like he just finished reading it 10 minutes before playing. He is the great military mind of our time.
I can testify to T90 putting me to sleep with his voice in 10 minutes of narrative and commentaries and waking me up 10 to 20 minutes later with a scream, to yes ideal for short naps.
@@annaairahala9462 AoE2 pro scene was decent even before DE came out! And those people were those who formed a bulk of competitive scene on DE, and mostly are till these days.
AOE was designed from the beginning with multiplayer in mind. RTS games were amongst the first PC games to ever have online play, and Ensemble Studios was one if the first to get it right
Can confirm that T90 helps put babies to sleep! Have a 15 month old and we have been making jokes since he was born that he would recognize T90 if he ever met him
I have recently found your channel and watched probably over 50 of your videos, but I REALLY love Corner Boi player the most-- and I love that it's not even his legit player name, LOL. I don't know how he does it, but he's incredible! Anyway, the Exploding Kings series is totally awesome too, the backstabbing in those games is just so epic. The "Simple Joe" was absolutely my favourite game to watch! I'll never forget that one! Thank you for your streaming some awesome entertainment.
This is definitely one of my favorite games, and I was playing when my grandpa came and visited once. I’ve never seen him touch a computer and he still barely knows how to use a flip phone, but he saw me playing and it turned out, this is his favorite game! So now we play together every once and a while.
I remember when T90 first burst onto the scene, I had just restarted playing AOE for the umpteenth time and I was blown away at this awesome new community. Now years later and its strong as ever, with memes and legends and everything. great jorb everyone! AoE kinda started it all for me with PC gaming back in 1997!
This has got to be the most entertaining commentary I have ever watched of any game. Totally enjoying this especially with my Age of Mythology and Civilization 2&3 background. Incredible content man.
This is fantastic commentary. I don't follow this game, but UA-cam suggested this to me and here I am. This takes me back to the days of watching pro SC2 games with commentary, I'm loving it!
OMG this is amazing! Corner strategy actually forces the oponent to a certain defensive strat, because he can't rush. His oponent scouted so much and even then he didn't find him, so decided to wall up instead. The same thing probably funnels all the games of this guy to the style he wants.
It is funny you mentioned people being put to sleep. I found this video while scrolling through UA-cam on my Xbox because I woke up too early and needed some background noise to help me get back to sleep. I was an hour long AOE video and thought that would do the trick, and boy did it! I didn't even know it was a commentary at first, but I'm glad it was because when I did eventually fall asleep it put me into a nice, 4 hour deep sleep. Thanks man!
Sometimes after a bad day you put the kids to bed, kiss the wife goodnight, and just hope T90 has a new video out. Thanks T90 with your help it might just be a mediocre day.
Hey, that's my tactic in literally every game like these, corner it. In the old c&c games i made sure to lock in some resources in my base early on and let them grow into a nice patch. While looting the rest of the map so i can continuously get resources out of it later on without it ever going out of stock while everyone else is struggling by getting scraps.
If we're talking the tiberium series. I like to camp field with attack bikes and map roam. I never play competitively but, my strat hasn't failed me et.
You're welcome from the future man! Interesting play by play, really makes me respect the game honestly, your commentary gives me a look into their thought process based on modes of play! Really cool, knowing nothing of this game, you already made jumps in my understanding in moments
I appreciate rAm's strat. This is something I like to do. Make a nice bulkhead for last stand scenarios and then just go as cheap as possible with the limited space. Making kill boxes with towers, trees and good angles. I also tend to ignore the boar as I can usually nab sheep or in this case, simply farm.
So I somehow stumbled across this whilst on tour abroad and now I have found the perfect way to spend my downtown, mate you've rekindled a childhood love for me. I'm definitely downloading AOE 2 HD and getting into the online, great vids man.
Blues problem was sending his army a too early every time, if he just waited a bit longer to amass a larger army and also kept making chukunu defended by hallies he would have easily won with the economy advantage but he kept sending sub-par units in small forces each time meant he wasted his resources
I have been watching your videos for around 3 years now( or more). 2days ago I bought the game. I was trying to reach at least a certain level playing the AI before joining the queue, but tonight I taught whatever. I need to get my spankings sooner than later before getting my real ranking. So the second game I was getting destroyed with Spanish, but I got my castle up. So I went allin conqs like one of your videos. And somehow won the game, still being 800 score down. Never expected that. I guess I will need more spanking now to reach my real rating
The comments on this video are great, love seeing people experience that nostalgia for this game. Good shit t90 took a pretty long break from aoe2 content but about to catch up on the low ELO legends that I missed
I have no idea how this got recommended but I watched it and could not walk away. I havent played this game in almost 2 decades and i dont really watch any gaming channels but i have spent the last several days watching a ton of your videos. It seems like a lot to get back into this game at this point but I'm pleasantly surprised people still play this decades later, any recommendations where to start?
Oh wow, i got randomly recommended this video, i had no idea this game was still a thing, let alone the definitive edition existed. It's been like 10-15 years since i last played the game. I absolutely loved it back in the day, i might as well look it up and see what's up. gg

Corner boi was literally me in the only community game I made for T90's stream and I ended up 2nd in that match. So yeah good strat to go unnoticed until the end x)
Holing up in the right corner doesn't seem like the best strategy if you want to stay hidden, mainly in low ELO when opponents are likely to use auto-scout. EDIT: 4:42 Alright, someone in chat mentioned it.
@@VadkoSmelyanskiy I've mainly just watched T90 videos every now and then. I don't have much in the way of real knowledge, and if I were to actually play I would do badly. All I really know are random tidbits and things that make intuitive sense.

What I loved about this game was seeing how they differed so much when it came to strengths and weaknesses. Blue could see the bigger could, and had a god general game sense on when how to boom, but his let down his specific mechanics knowledge and army control. Red had the knoweldge and an enermous micro superiority, but was making plenty of macro errors that left ostronger players would have exploited.

Only a minute in but just to make a point, most low ELO gameplay tends to be more exciting and varried with crazy and interesting strats. In this strat it makes sense. You shutdown the ability of the enemy to completely surround you for flanking. He's effectively halving his engagement zone making his defense requirements half. 3. Cheese: Immediately blitz computer's econ, build up forces, finish computer while it's rebuilding econ.
4. Joint task force: Two main forces, move them around the map in accordance with enemy movements. This is roughly the beginning of "professionally viable strategy". Easiest one to screw up, but the most adaptable for getting out of "silver league" type ELO.
I have almost no idea how this game works, I used to play it when I was like 8 but can't remember much of it, but just your commentary and the memories coming back made me love the video.
I’ve done that before. Years ago, when I played this game.
The others couldn’t find me.
I was also known as the Trebuchet Queen.
Hail! 😔✊
Sure you were..🙄
Proudest moment of ‘22, I was there live during the discovery of this legend. Glad this made it to UA-cam!
Where is it?
Don't you mean of 2021? Or it is actually from this year?
Happy new year tho =)
@@matipedia_ I thought I caught this game during a live stream he had this year, but it could have been the end of ‘21! That time of year is a blur for me. Happy New Year to you as well!
@@goglydes might be I just thought you misstyped 22 instead of 21

Divide and conquer.
Knowledge is power. Know what your enemy is doing.
I played the crap out of this game when it first came out, the algorithm is strong. Nice to see so many are still into it.
Best comment from the chat: "Baby's first words: SUPPLIES!"
Wow... Childhood memories are flooding in... Maybe I should get a copy of the game!
It has a very active scene and its really fun.
You should! Get the Definitive Edition, it's what's played here. Very active, lots of fun, become a low elo legend lol
It's very fun, I'm learning how to play the actual way lol, currently getting rekt by very hard AI but once I beat him I might try MP.
Steam, son. Always look on Steam.
The original is in steam? I can't use the definitive one due to my potato pc
around 33 minutes you mentioned that blue is a higher eco, but he has 33 idle workers to reds 1, so red has 85 while blue has 79 workers busy
I spent 57 minutes today trying to get 10 lumberjacks to cut wood in unison... 57 MINUTES..! And right before it happens Jerry gets eaten by a wolf
They ask you how you are and you just have to say that you're fine when you're not really fine.

Never played Age of Empires, and don't know how I stumbled upon your video...
Hats off to you sir, I thoroughly enjoyed the commentary and analysis. You have a natural gift for discourse, really engaging content. Subscribed!
You should check out the game, Age of Empires DE came out a few years back and essentially upgraded the classic game
You watched this and you’ve never played it? Wow. This game is great lol
Thats why i open up tyler1 stream to sleep muhahahaha
There's a multiplayer scene for aoe2?!
This is neat.
It's been a decent size since DE came out
there has been a multiplayer scene for aoe2 since it came out
@@annaairahala9462 AoE2 pro scene was decent even before DE came out! And those people were those who formed a bulk of competitive scene on DE, and mostly are till these days.
AOE was designed from the beginning with multiplayer in mind. RTS games were amongst the first PC games to ever have online play, and Ensemble Studios was one if the first to get it right
DE's online is a lot better than HD or Age of Kings because it has dedicated Microsoft servers now.
Can confirm that T90 helps put babies to sleep! Have a 15 month old and we have been making jokes since he was born that he would recognize T90 if he ever met him
the put babies to sleep sounded like the beginning of a macabre joke to me xD
I use him to sleep and I'm 25, you just turn the lights off, put some LEL video and there you go...

i have never played age of empires, why is this so entertaining. why do i want to watch more. awh man
man its worth playing even today. especially when you dont know how bad you are, its a hoot.
I just discovered your channel. I did not know that there were AOE youtube channels in 2022 let alone there still be high level game play being casted
78 elo is somewhere between wood tier and brick tier. These aren't grandmasters playing, JUST SO YOU KNOW lol.
AOE2 Definitive edition is in active development. New balance and content patches are being added all the time.
It has a very active and relatively big scene, join in.
So the highlevel play is something like this BTW. ua-cam.com/video/CgIAgFXa3e0/v-deo.html
First blood in this game was post-imp! Crazy simcity play from both.
Like many in the comments, I haven't played this game in years. The commentary is so crisp that everything makes sense. Thank you!
I think it was a 'defeat', despite blue having an archery range, because he had no food/gold to create any units.
Resources don't matter.
@@TheMrTape u cant do anything without resource
@@QWERTY-gp8fd Yeah I realize that, but the defeat logic doesn't take that into account.
I've never played Age of empires but i watched the whole video for the entretaininng commentary. Nice video!
You should check out the game; it's good
This is definitely one of my favorite games, and I was playing when my grandpa came and visited once. I’ve never seen him touch a computer and he still barely knows how to use a flip phone, but he saw me playing and it turned out, this is his favorite game! So now we play together every once and a while.
4:36 Technically, the fastest way to get the TC is to drop it near one of the villagers
Never played this game but stil got recommended and I loved ur commentary and the 1v1 overall :D Very interesting afterall ^^
Hearing T90 being a constant talker in childhood to be an AOE caster as an adult is great.
This is fantastic commentary. I don't follow this game, but UA-cam suggested this to me and here I am. This takes me back to the days of watching pro SC2 games with commentary, I'm loving it!
There is a very active competitive scene for this game if you still like that sort of thing!
T90 I miss your streams but watch all your vids on youtube. Currently dealing with a 3 month old and these vids are great at 3 am.
Same. Time to boom fellow aoers.
I've got a 4 month old and know the feeling, lol I can comfort my baby while my wife sleeps, and watch a quick T90 video. It's nice.
I watched my first T90 UA-cam video in 2016 (Forest nothing ofc) when we were in the hospital waiting for the birth of our first child.
Make sure to get those blacksmith upgrades in feudal so junior grows up good and strong, lads.
Hahaha thats so funny i watch t90 when my puppy wont let me play the game
OMG this is amazing! Corner strategy actually forces the oponent to a certain defensive strat, because he can't rush. His oponent scouted so much and even then he didn't find him, so decided to wall up instead. The same thing probably funnels all the games of this guy to the style he wants.
So glad I've found age of empire content. Grew up playing this game and want to play so bad!
Never played age of empires or watched any content but absolutely loved this
Not gonna lie, I love it when they *don't* resign. So satisfying.
I also do this on land nomad maps, i find it easier to know there are two directions enemies cant come from
im actually so stoked that other people use your videos to fall asleep xD ive been doing this most nights for like 2 years xD
Sometimes a legend is a legend because the thing they do is objectively a bad option, but they make it work.
"My family's been trying to shut me up all my life"
Legend has it, he still doesn't shut up to this day!
22:45 the two horse technologies being researched by red in the top left complement each other forming a complete horse.

@@JackPhoenixCz lol yeah that's right.
I love how aesthetic the corner base is, rAm is a clearly a person of culture and design
Baby's first word: Mu... mu...
Parents: Oh my god, it's wonderful! He's gonna say it, c'mon, kid: 'muuum'!
Baby: MUUURDERHOOOOLES!
He built helms deep. There is no escape from here.
The comments on this video are great, love seeing people experience that nostalgia for this game. Good shit t90 took a pretty long break from aoe2 content but about to catch up on the low ELO legends that I missed
Came for the AoG game, instead got the slow unraveling of a man's relationship with his parents.
53:54 Blue didnt know how to give up and Red was giving the "You've done enough, please rest easy"
Yup exactly ahah
LOL That story of the milkshakes was hilarious. At least your talkative nature is well suited to casting now :D
Oh wow, i got randomly recommended this video, i had no idea this game was still a thing, let alone the definitive edition existed. It's been like 10-15 years since i last played the game. I absolutely loved it back in the day, i might as well look it up and see what's up. gg

I think we've all been corner boi at least once in our careers
I fell asleep so peacefully while you were saying that people fall asleep listening to you. Thank tou very much. I've been having sleep problems lately and it was the best night I've had in a while.
Corner boi was literally me in the only community game I made for T90's stream and I ended up 2nd in that match. So yeah good strat to go unnoticed until the end x)
Just combine it with the classic 37 farm build order next time and it's a guaranteed win!

This is the first video of yours that I watched, but it won't be the last. Holy cow, what a game by Corner Boi!
Those three villagers at the end that went to red’s eco were simply seeking asylum
This legendary game was so crazy he started talking about toddlers and finally shutting them up.
Holing up in the right corner doesn't seem like the best strategy if you want to stay hidden, mainly in low ELO when opponents are likely to use auto-scout.
EDIT: 4:42 Alright, someone in chat mentioned it.
Interesting point, no auto scout in nomad though
@@T90Official Ah, I see. I've never actually played AoE2 myself, so I don't know these things.
@@notalive5479 amazing that you have knowledge of the game's strategy without ever playing it! Do you watch a lot of streams/AoE2 guide videos?
@@VadkoSmelyanskiy I've mainly just watched T90 videos every now and then. I don't have much in the way of real knowledge, and if I were to actually play I would do badly. All I really know are random tidbits and things that make intuitive sense.
I literally had a nap while watching this! Woke up 15 minutes later to replay from the moment T90 screamed "What are these walls?" which was the last thing I remember him saying before I drifted off. Good nap. Great content!
Love that People like me who don't even play are getting recommended this video so we can all witness the legend that is corner boi😅
By far the most common LEL mistake I see is having thousands of gold and making trash armies. Trash units are all situational. If you can afford "real" army, make it!
Your commentary is amazing! Hahah i literally don’t even play this at all and im hooked
On this episode of "Why the fuck is this recommended for me?", I leaned that AoE2 is a pretty fun game
I love it when you are telling a story and you suddenly go WOAH cause something is happening in the game
I searched Cheeseburger, Lips, Hairbrush and THEY'RE BEAUTIFULLLL. Thanks T90 🥰
I literally have your videos play in the back ground while I am cleaning my house or doing something. Love your content!
At low ELO I'd expect the old "send the scouts to the corners" players would catch this out a lot
Agreed, the "Oh where is my hairbrush" song, the Cheeseburger Song, and the Stuffmart song are all classics from Veggietales engrained in my psyche forever.
Red had very good army control but one day he may find himself tightly walled in his corner :-) Had blue scouted better he could have done this.
I play this fanatically from time to time. One of my fav games.

Sure in high ELO it's a death sentence but here it'll work
