- Last year I showed the world the Legend of Wall, the player who would wall in enemies and try his best to keep them in there. Well he has RETURNED, and this time he has a reputation. Will the enemy be able to figure it out?

Almost straight out of Caesar's de Bello Gallico... all that was missing was the guard towers. Wall's matches are truly a pleasure to watch!
@@latalata1000 Caesar started a siege of Alesia and build walls around the city. Vercingetorix was in the city and his main armies surrounded Caesar's army, hoping to starve them out. Caesar's reserve's came in and built ANOTHER wall around Vercingetorix's main armies, making kind of a donut. Vercingetorix's (Gaul) reserves and supplies were cut off, and his reserves weren't well trained or equipped enough to bust the second wall, so the main army starved. Caesars main body held out better due to better supplies and training. The Gauls almost broke out but the walls had taken their tolls, and Caesar personally led the last of his reserves into battle. Caesar won, Vercingetorix surrendered, was sent to jail, and 6 years later was executed.
I cant imagine the excitement of having dug around the wall, getting out of the forest, only to see more walls.

You need to cast one of these but exclusively from the point of view of the boxed in player.
One of the main reasons why this works so well is that as soon as you knock down a layer, you get some vision and you realize you havnt scratched the surface!

The most frustrating part was seeing one player with total map control on arena without bothering to grab relics.

@@nicolaim4275 not this time, but I’ll bet his win rate with this strategy would go up considerably with that extra passive res collection. Use it to buy the hell out of stone so it’s really expensive for your opponent, if nothing else!

Skank Hunt is a reference to South Park. In one episode, the dad of one of the main characters is being a troll on the internet, and his online alias is Skankhunt42. Makes the name a little better, imo. 😄

This is a traditional way of besieging a town or castle, you build fortifications around their fortifications and then starve them out or shoot them with canons...

This reminds me of certain chess games I've seen. Usually, in the opening you want to develop your pieces and castle your king to safety, and open up lines of attack to the enemy king. Pushing too many pawns just makes the pawns weak targets that are easy to attack, and they can't defend your territory once they've moved past it, since they only ever move forward. So a pawn storm opening is considered weak in most examples.
But in some specific examples, the pawn storm pushed back enemy pieces, closed off the center, paralyzed the enemy pawns, and denied space for the opposing army to maneuver, and the position remained closed. Then the player with more space was free to move their pieces to any side of the board and attack there at will, finding a weakness and exploiting it, while the player with less space tried to defend and couldn't move their pieces well enough to defend everywhere at once.
The concept of denying your opponent space, even if they have an advantage in everything else, seems to be at work here. Blue has all the tech, all the economy, even a better army. But all of those advantages mean nothing if you can't break out and use any of it.
And Wall is sitting there boxing in his opponent and destroying a technically better army, better economic buildings, better everything, simply by having ranged artillery that you can't hit back.
That's it, you don't have a counter to his one move, and you're unable to move and avoid being hit by his one move. He's like a wrestler who pins you to the ground, grapples your limbs, and then starts biting you when you're absolutely helpless.
Usually you'd just punch someone who is biting you, but this guy has you in a full nelson first, pinned against the ground. Chomp Chomp Chomp.
I think this kind of siege is quite realistic for the 17th, 18th and 19th entury era - you would just not do it with walls, bute with trenches. There should be a mod for this.
The way that wall plays makes me wonder how long he took to perfect his craft.
After I watched that game I played a ranked match (1100 elo :/). I got arena and Portuguese against me (not WALL). This is where I got paranoid. I think I found a good counter to this if anyone interested, but what are the odds...
He got to Feudal earlier and I caught 4 villagers out and lost my scout. My instinct was to vill fight him, I sent 5 villagers forward, but then I got an idea for secret villager. I sent her away and in Feudal built a secret stable, while distracting his villagers into a fight. Created scouts and upgraded them just in case, killed his villagers and got to castle age. He resigned.

I played with him, totally thrashed him lol. It was kinda annoying but I use Britons, worked on eco first the 8-10 trebs and mass elite Longbowmen. If u use Britons range properly and those epic trebs, u burst through in no time. Always keep a few cavaliers with ur mass trebs and elite Longbowmen to counter siege if needed, and scouting ahead. But Britons trebs would take out any Opponent siege from miles away, plus Longbowmen r epic

I don't get why Wall lets the opponent out of their 'side door' around game minute 15? If he'd walled slightly more, there was space for one less TC and fewer buildings, and various stuff that costs him stone +attention +effort later on. The whole aim of his game is constriction, and he gave say a 50% extra breathing room?

A week back, I played against the same strat perfectly executed by by opponent as Portuguese. I played as the Burmese, I hoarded elephants cleared back lumber and build a wonder. He was like I got relics bitch, I waited till the relics got to 30yrs or so and used trebs to destroy the monastry next to my base. And I actually won XD..... Man was he mad... started trash talking. LOL!

Practice helps a ton, just like anything complex! I remember Day9 once say playing an RTS at a high level requires the dexterity of a piano player, and the mind of a chess master.
To click your own walls to delete them when they’re blocked by enemy walls, drag the square for selecting units.

maybe if you have a civ that can go bombard canon yourself leave out the castle and go faster for onager to cut earlier and defend with own canons?
I think if blue was to mass rams and then push the walls, that would be better than trying to cut with onager

Instead of Portugese, could he go with Teutons? With 100% map-control, ressources should not be a problem. But the extra range on teuton castles can counter bombard cannons, so the walled-in opponent has even more limited options for breaking out.
If someone walls you in..., its archers and early midfield, so you protect your lands.. early but delay castle and imperial for an army, since he had forward vilalgers you know you iwll be ahead economically.. destroy all your walls.. if you do get walled, in... I htink save up 30 petards and then go go go.. and build a treb for vision... maybe get some cavs, I think he still could of won, at the poitn he resigned, but it would take some time, and wall is not liek attirtion, an organism, but what great gam.e

Wouldn't a mass of, like, 20 siege rams with elite eagle warriors bust through the walls pretty quickly? (As I was typing this, 31:27 he goes and says it) Just make ~3 siege workshops at the back of your base and push. Does 1000 elo not do this?

I am from China and my grandpa told me that our ancestors learned from this guy and decided to build a great wall to defend the mongols. It worked really well until someone forgot to close a gate.

It just crept on me WALL is using late medieval 15-16 century siege tactics
1: surround the enemy
2: build battlements
3: fill battlements with siege engines
4: pummel the tihs out of the enemy from your safe spot
5: slowly creep in building more defensive positions
6: profit (?)
I would pay good money to see T90 play WALL. Let yourself be walled in at the very start, then start playing full potential and show us how to defeat it!!
The legend of Wall was the first T90 video I got recommended in the algorithm. Makes sense, what aoe2 player hasn't wanted to make this strat work before?
The walls aren't there to protect him from the enemy, they're there to protect the enemy from him
Gotta give it to Wall, by the middle of the game his mini map ALWAYS looks like an empire, which is a legitimate goal if you ask me.
