    I don't know why I even bothered looking at that video. I must be maybe bored out of my mind. The tips and advice are so common sense that I can't even compute why she bothered doing that video! So now if just laying a watch on its upright position scratches it that easily, then luxury watches buyers should consider buying Casio watches 😂. Oh by the way, everybody is buying 200m water resistant watches like diver watches just to keep them away from water all together. Huhhh

    I have wore my first day just from 1972 till 1989, daily without fail, no services were required and without compromising the accuracy as well ~ kudos to Rolex ❤

      Sometimes you are lucky but from experience, post 2008-2010 Rolex movements have been toned down in terms of wear resistance and rotor axles and other components have a calculated obsolescence. Daily worn modern watches are more prone to early wear versus older 3135 and 3035 movements.

    Nobody changes time while their watch is on their wrist,
    If it's a manual wined or an automatic, you ALWAYS adjust the watch BEFORE you put it on the wrist

    I would add to the point about placing the watch on its side, that one should be mindful of the surface that it is resting on. I keep my watches in watch cases (boxes), but the odd time I do leave on its side, it is always on a micro fiber cloth or similar soft surface. I've purchase watches from people who must have put the watch on their night stand each night and there is considerable wear on the side of the case opposite the crown.

    Aren't you wearing a metal bracelet on the same wrist as your watch?

      Silver Tiffany beads are empty therefore no possible damage to the platinum watch. If you do wear heavy stone beads and are very active the damage can add quite quickly over time.

    That was really good. I would like to add, that you can use lense cleaning spray to your soft cloth wiping, so that oils will be removed.

    Don’t give up the day job. This might be useful to a five year old, but not an adult watch collector.

    Great job on this video! One thing I'd like to add: if water has gotten into your watch case, there's action you can take _immediately_ (before you get it to a watchmaker): what you will do is first orient the watch in the "crown-down" position, then unscrew the crown (if necessary) and pull it out to the time setting position. Leave the watch like this in a clean, warm, dry place, with the crown pulled & facing down so water can leave through the crown opening (where it most likely came in). If you do this as soon as you realize water intrusion has happened, the damage will be minimized.

      That works for small fog on the crystal and in some cases/most cases that crown opening and letting it there did not work for me. I wear vintage all the time and happens when sweating. In more than 50% of cases the fog seems to dissappear but as soon as you put the watch back on the wrist, the fog reappears. Best is to open the watch and let the humidity dissappear within minutes. I have also seen hidden humidity stick to the winding portion of the watch and rust quite fast therefore opening for an inspection is always suggested.

      @@timemerchantsmtl If a person isn't comfortable opening the case, and if they can't have it looked at by a watchmaker _immediately_ what would you suggest?

    • @timemerchantsmtl
      @timemerchantsmtl  3 місяці тому +1

      @@vonkruel this is all we can do sadly. Open crown and hope for the best. Have a friend that had an Oris Big Crown and gaskets prevented the humidity from getting out even with a rice bowl. The dial started bubbling like an extraterestrial life (no joke, litterally) after 2 days. As soon as I opened it, the dial came back to normal and left it to stabilize for 30 minutes. That happened because crown was not fully screwed in.

    • @vonkruel
      @vonkruel 3 місяці тому

      @@timemerchantsmtl In many (most?) cases it's the dial & hands that you'll really fear for, because you can replace movement parts or even the whole movement more easily & cheaply. I haven't gotten into vintage yet -- I'm more attracted to re-releases (vintage style w/o vintage problems).

      @@vonkruel yes, that is why the emergency of opening a watch right away. It is best to avoid possible dial/hands damage.

    Somewhere is real, somewhere is a replica, you honestly can't tell the difference. This is a woman who has enough money to buy anything she wants. I did see her buying a Mercedes and a Jaguar with cash because she didn't like the interest. She taught me how to mix and match, especially trendy *condup* bags, instead of spending $5,000 on something that will be out of style next year

    Excellent tips. I’d also say not to baby your watch, especially if it is a steel sports watch. Have fun wearing it rather than worrying about it too much.

      I think one should always look after the watch or anything they buy, so they can pass on their legacy to future generations (especially something like a watch with a great story behind it) but I agree with you point that we should use and enjoy it at the same time 🙂

    When I have an extra ten or twenty thousands dollars for a watch, I’ll worry about this stuff.
