Wow! Congratulations, you are the first person to do a reaction to this classic fantasy/comedy. I just watched this the other day from my personal collection. Nominated for 9 academy awards, it's a personal favorite of mine. I highly recommend the 1977 comedy The Goodbye Girl with Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason. I guarantee you will like it.
Also his friend the trainer Is The great Jack Warden him and Warren and Julie were in “Shampoo” together also , great movie you should check out sometime thanks
This film shares a title with a 1943 Ernst Lubitsch comedy, though the two are very different movies. The murderer in this film is played by Charles Grodin. If you haven't seen it, he stars in another movie called Midnight Run, along with Rober De Niro. It is a great deal of fun.
As per usual, lovin' yer selections :) I love this flick. It was 1978... we needed any warmth we could get, lol. Even, especially, the Bad News Bears struck a chord.
Yes actually there is quite a bit of long term brain damage from football , they’ve changed a lot of how it’s played to limit the damage as much as possible but it is still a violent sport with lifelong ramifications
Heaven can wait was a big deal when I was a teen, but I never saw it. Now I see from your reaction that this is definitely a remake of the classic "Here comes Mr. Jordan," Which I did see, and loved as a kid.
Yes, this is a remake of "Here Comes Mr. Jordan". There is an older movie comedy called "Heaven Can Wait", starring a young Don Ameche as a gentleman explaining his life to the Devil.
The thing that makes this movie a total Hollywood (LA) fantasy is: The LA Rams NEVER won a Super Bowl until 2/13/2022. Still, love this movie! Especially villain Charles Grodin, the weasly social secretary to the man whose wife he was banging & murderer of the same guy twice. Grodin's immense talent was showcased just as beautifully when he portrayed the soft-hearted accountant friend-to-a-president in "Dave".
You might enjoy A Matter of Life and Death (1948), AKA Stairway to Heaven, which also involves a mistake by the heavenly gatekeepers, and an ensuing romance.
The late, great Charles Grodin was one of the best deadpan actors of his generation. I highly recommend enjoying him slowly driving Robert deNiro in and out of his mind in "Midnight Run". Julie Christie was one of the beauties of her time, and is likely most well known for her role as Lara in "Dr. Zhivago". Warren Beatty is a notable director as well as actor; I confess it took me a long time to see past his superficial assets and decide to like him. Dyan Cannon should be better known than she is. I first saw her in "The Last of Sheila", where she is funny, sharp and up to the likes of the magnificent James Mason, who is Mr. Jordan here. Mason was an actor of tremendous class and range, and I hope you get to see him in many movies as well.
You already saw the remake, Down To Earth (2001). 😉 Fun Fact: The fictitious Super Bowl game (Rams vs. Steelers) was filmed during halftime of the Rams/Chargers preseason at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on September 1, 1977.
This is a true classic. I used to watch this a lot when it aired on HBO "back in the day". You were right about Chris Rock; he did a remake of this story called "Down to Earth". I wish that Hollywood would allow another version of this story; with Warren Beatty as the Mr. Jordan character. Just now subscribed to your channel after seeing your other reactions. You're great.
The Rams the same team Joe was playing forum the movie is actually playing in the Super Bowl next Sunday and the uniforms are about the same as they were in the movie thanks
This is a pretty good Beatty movie. Very odd that the Los Angeles Rams moved to St. Louis and were the St Louis Rams. Won a SB. Moved back to LA and won a SB.
Check out the earlier version of this - the 1941 film "Here Comes Mr. Jordan"; it is interesting to compare the 2 films. There is an earlier film with the same title as this but sounds totally different. I have seen Here Comes Mr. Jordan but not the one with the same title.
2:00 I was a huge fan of Phil Collins when I was a teenager, but I did think he was kind of old back then. I recently discovered that I am now older than he was back then *BY 20 YEARS*
*Prior to watching reaction comment... Saw this in theaters & loved it. Developed a crush on Julie Christie 😍. Although a love story, I took away 2 excellent business lessons that I utilized as an entrepreneur for decades (paraphrasing): 1. "We don't care how much it costs, we just care how much it MAKES." 2. "And if it costs more we just make it part of our marketing campaign; 'will you spend a nickel more (rather than buying cheaper from our competitors) to save a fish that THINKS?" Today almost all companies have that financial "giving back/we support" aspect to their businesses.
At 11:51 I have just realized... I don't think I've actually seen this movie, lol. I think I got my wires crossed with Heavenly Kis & Chances Are. 🤦♀️🤣🤦♀️🤣🤦♀️🤷♀️ I'll drop u the like, but I'm regrettfully not finishing the video! Maybe later after I track down a copy of the movie!😅💚
Hello Kat! This was one of those films which was very popular when it came out, but largely fell into obscurity. There are many very good films that somehow fall through the cracks and yet are quite entertaining. Heaven Can Wait, is a little understated with it's humor, but that's part of its charm. I have two gems for you that kind of fit that category. The first one is called "What's Up, Doc" and the movie is not about a certain cartoon Rabbit. It is what is referred to as a screwball comedy. It stars Ryan O'Neal (he drove the ladies crazy back in the day), Barbara Streisand, and Madeleine Kahn (in her first big role). Lots of craziness, lots of confusion and the wildest chase scene you'll ever see. The 2nd film is a Mel Brooks film. Reactors on UA-cam tend to watch the same 3-4 of his films (Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and Robin Hood; Men in Tights). In my not so humble opinion, believe that "High Anxiety" is the equal to the first two of the Brooks's films and is far superior to the last one. It has only been reacted to once or twice that I have seen. It is a brilliant parody of many of the Alfred Hitchcock classic films. It stars such great comedic talents as Mel Brooks, Madeleine Kahn, Harvey Korman, Cloris Leachman, and Charlie Callas. It makes references to Hitchcock's films like Vertigo, North by Northwest, Pyscho, and The Birds. You don't really need to see those films to find "High Anxiety" funny, but you'll appreciate the cleverness more. I do hope you give one of these a try, they're both from the 1970's, which to me was the beginning of the golden age of comedy movies and thrived thru the 1980's. Also, you might consider "The Sting", which won the Oscar for best picture. It stars two of the biggest stars of the time; Robert Redford and Paul Newman. You'll love the music, love the vibe, and get immersed in the storyline. Ok, that's three suggestions, so sue me (please don't)!
If you like this movie, you're sure to enjoy Hopscotch Starring Walter Mathau & Foul Play starring Goldie Hawn & Chevy Chase, as well as My Favorite Year starring Peter O'Toole.
I liked this version more than 1943's HERE COMES MR JORDAN with Robert Montgomery as the fallen-risen-fallen-risen hero probably because I like Jack Warden, Warren Beatty and Julie Christie more than the older film's counterparts. Of course, James Gleason, Donald McBride and Halliwell Hobbs alone can makes MR JORDAN a must-see film in my book. I thought snagging James Mason to replace Claude Rains as the angel-manager was a great stroke of lucky casting, too.
Also in 1943, there is a film named HEAVEN CAN WAIT with Don Ameche and Gene Tierney with a Hell-centric story, not the same but these two films in the same year are wonderful book-ends. This film also boasts a magnificent supporting cast, including Charles Coburn, Marjorie Main, Laird Cregar as The Devil, Spring Byington, Eugene Pallette and Louis Calhern. These folks alone make this film a must-see, as well.
Great review. I've seen this movie a few times and I agree with you the last part doesn't make any sense. Because Joe was taken prematurely. And it would have made a lot more sense if he could have remained Joe
a remake of HERE COMES MR JORDAN 1941.another movie like this is stairway to heaven 1946. interesting there is a 1943 movie called Heaven Can Wait that's a completely different story.
There is so much brain damage in football that there is a movie about it (Concussion staring Will Smith). Multiple player have killed themselves because of the brain damage.
Joe Pendleton gets screwed. When Tom Jarrett dies, he goes to heaven, Joe steps in to take his place. Mr. Jordan tells Joe he will now forget all about being Joe, and only have memories and the personality of Tom. That means the fun-loving, easy going, high-spirited Joe Pendleton spirit dies, disappears, replaced with the more serious, reserved personality of Tom, which also means, when he dies in 50 years, there will be no easy going Joe Pendleton personality, but two Tom Jarrett's in heaven. What about Joe Pendleton's friends and family? They lose Joe too, when he comes back as Tom, the man his family and friends would have enjoyed for 50 more years, Joe, dies. Now, they have to live with him dying young in that auto accident. Tom doesn't even know or care about them, so, he never reaches out to reestablish contact. End result...for all intents and purposes, Joe Pendleton disappears...memories and all, to everyone...including himself!
Another enjoyable reaction. "Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. 24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. 25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" 27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world." John 11:23-27

Goodbye Girl
Goodbye Girl!!! Yes!!! Marsha Mason.
Only When I Laugh.. too!!
Such an enjoyable film. I watched this all the time as a kid. So happy to finally see a reaction to this film.
Warren Beatty is one of the gifted actors of all time
Hilarious in " Ishtar ".
@@clutchpedalreturnsprg7710 Hilarious in Bulworth as well
He reminds me a lot of Zendaya, the way he can play so many different roles.
@Isaac Chester That's incredible and he also directed Bulworth that I adore, especially the soundtrack, nice accomplishments by Beatty
This is a re-make of "Here Comes Mr. Jordan." Columbia. 1941.
This is a remake of a movie called "Here Comes Mr. Jordan"
This is a remake
(one of the best, I'd say).
The original was called
"Here Comes Mr. Jordan".

Dyan Cannon has a wondrous mane of hair, and it's there to envy in almost all her movies.
Yes actually there is quite a bit of long term brain damage from football , they’ve changed a lot of how it’s played to limit the damage as much as possible but it is still a violent sport with lifelong ramifications
The movie telling the story of American football concussions is called “Concussion” (2015).
Heaven can wait was a big deal when I was a teen, but I never saw it. Now I see from your reaction that this is definitely a remake of the classic "Here comes Mr. Jordan," Which I did see, and loved as a kid.

Charles Grodin was good in everything he did, even Ishtar.

19:30 Yes, especially back in the day. They have done a lot to reduce the brain damage issue since 1978, but it's still a problem.
