the horsehead in the bed is a multifacetted message. first, it shows that the things he values, and protects the most, are not outside of reach. second, it shows that if we wanted to get to you, we were there. at your bed. while you slept. and third, it shows how far they are willing to go. all in all, a fairly well articulated message
Michael is established early on as a decorated (for bravery) and wounded marine corp veteran of the WW2 Pacific theater. That means places/battles like Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima. Make no mistake, he likely returned home with a higher enemy kill count than any hit man in the Corleone organization. Like the characters in the film many viewers fall for the college boy/legit wannabe mask that Michael Corleone projects.
Michael didn't want to be involved in the business, it just happened that way. They tried to kill his dad, he had to go to Sicily in hiding, and was there for a really long time because he got married and all. Then the dude came and told Michael the other families know about your location right before his wife got blown up. That's why the guard took off. When he came back to America, he spoke to Kate, and she asked how long he been back, and he said about a year. So there was a time jump there, and Michael had been learning the business, now that Sunny was gone.
I had the same experience with the Godfather as you MJ. This is a movie that would be on in my household growing up and I had only watched bits and pieces. It wasn’t until film class that I actually saw it. I personally prefer the 2nd out of the entire trilogy, and do not give much resistance when people say GF2 is the greatest film ever made. I know Pacino’s performance in it is the greatest on screen performance that I have ever seen.
Paulie being outted as the traitor was in a deleted scene. Sonny explained to Michael that Paulie called in 4 times, all 4 times he had got a phone call from the pay phone across the street from the office. The day Don Corleone got shot, Paulie got a call from the same pay phone.
For Marlon´s Brando character in this movie, Don Vito Corleone, Francis Ford Coppola put a jaw prosthesis in his mouth and a gauze, to give him that particular face. Brando was relatively young in this film, and Coppola pretended to age him and look more threatening.
Paramount wanted Brando to do a screen test, so Coppola when to Brando's house, & Coppola told him his was going to film a makeup test, then Brando took some cotton & put it in his mouth & said something like, "He should be a bulldog. Tough but looks nice" & Coppola knew Brando had to be the Godfather
You should check out the deleted scenes on here. One of the scenes depicts how Michael's wife Apollonia was killed. It showed how one of Michael's bodyguards Fabrizo was actually from New York and worked for Barzini which showed how fluent his English was. After the killing of Apollonia, Fabrizo fled back to New York. He was found and was killed from a bomb planted in his car, the same way Apollonia was killed.
Fabrizio isn't from New York. He's a shepherd from Sicily. I read the script, the book, and watched the movie with deleted scenes. Fabrizio was killed with a car bomb in part two in a deleted scene. In the book he was ginned down in the pizza parlor. He had a unique tattoo on his chest to his stomach that gave him away.
Hi. Mj. I. Just finished your react ion. To the. Godfather it. Was a great movie but you should react. To. The. Godfather part 2. It is a classic. Shawn
The scene at the wedding when he's fantasizing about stealing the cash establishes his petty character too, so we know he's the type to get paid off to betray the Don.
Opening scene: the undertaker’s daughter is brutally assaulted and he cries as the Godfather sits silent & indifferent Later: the Godfather’s son is brutally murdered and he cries as the undertaker stands silent & indifferent Brilliant.
As a former funeral services professional the mortician is not being indifferent, he’s being stoic. You show no emotion, the emotion is made by the bereaved you are there to make it as smooth as a tragedy can be
One of my favorite scenes is the scene with Don Vito and Michael in the garden where Don Vito tells Michael that he didn't want any of this for him, he had aspirations of Michael becoming a Senator or a Governor, and Michael says "just another pezzonovante"! The first time I heard it I wanted to know what it meant and looked up the word... Pezzonovante" is an Italian term that translates to "big shot" or "hotshot" in English. It is often used to describe someone who is powerful, influential, or important. But I believe that Michael was using it more in a sarcastic context than as an admiration!!!
Michael Corleone was a Captain in the Marines in the South Pacific during WWII, and he was the only one in the Corleone family that was college educated, and that is why he was an officer in the Marines because of his college education.
I get what you mean about attention spans. There's a lot in this film and it all matters; you have to pay attention to understand everything that's going on. I'd definitely recommend watching the second one; it's both a prequel and a sequel at the same time. It shows us how Vito began, and how Michael ends up. The third film isn't based on the book, which is one reason why some people don't like it as much as the first two. BTW the book is long but it's good, it has some material that was left out of the films. Luca Brazzi was played by man who wasn't a professional actor, who got so nervous that he fumbled his lines. The Director thought that fit the scene so he left it in the film. Also, "what they measuring out?" - that's Sonny's wife, and what she was measuring was Sonny. What makes Vito sympathetic is that he's more than just a criminal even though he definitely is one. He uses his power to help people with their problems, something which Michael doesn't do. Doing favors for people is how he got the power in the first place.
I already know the reaction is going to be great, and I'm immediately subscribing......but had to laugh at the idea that "Al Pacino hasn't had many iconic roles".🤣 Serpico? Apollonia would have been a much better Mafia wife, she's Sicilian, Catholic and would not have asked her husband about his business. She would have been a good mother and faithful wife like Michael's mother 😊 I don't want to give away any spoilers for Godfather II but Kay is just too American to be a Mafia wife
Kay was supposed to represent the American dream, at a time when southern Italian immigrants were considered less than “white.” All that ended when Michael killed Solatzo and McClusky. That’s why the Don was so sad when Tom told him that the hit was Michael. The dream (and ultimately the family) died.
In the book, that was Michael's point. He actually hates being Sicilian. He got upset with Kay when she had their sons baptized as Catholic over protestant, like her. Also, she converts to Catholic by the end of the book and goes to services with Mama Corleone to pray for the Corleone men.
It's funny ever reactor under 30 always says, Why didn't anybody get a hold of MIchael. Ya'll gotta remember there was life way before the internet and cell phones. This was the 40's, there was no way to get a hold of him.
They also miss that Michael called Tom earlier. Which Tom couldn't tell anyone cause he was taken by Sollozzo. In the book, Michael told Tom that he would be in town over the weekend. However, Michael lied so he could spend more time with Kay AMD they were in the city the entire time.
The book is truly spectacular, but it is a different experience. It deepens the portrait of Michael and especially Vito, but also a lot of the other characters. For me, it gave me a new appreciation for the movies, and how brilliantly Puzo and Coppola adapted it for the screen. I’d even go as far as saying you can’t fully understand what masterpieces those two movies are without having read the book.
Always turn on subtitles, even if no foreign languages are involved so you don't miss anything when you're talking to the audience.😊 BTW, $10,000 in 1945 equals about $167,000 today (so $1,000 then equals $16,700 now of course). The hospital looked abandoned because they cleared out the entire floor for Vito for security. Yes those were real mob hit crime scene pictures in that montage. "The Godfather" could be a lot longer. They actually edited out more than an hour out of the film. A lot of hardcore Godfather fans watch all the edited out scenes and the Director's cut version.
When Michael looks at his hands at the hospital he noticed during a nerve racking moment he was calm cool and collected. At that moment I think Michael realized he was made for this shit
The singer that shows up at the wedding is supposed to be Frank Sinatra. Now I don’t know if you know who Frank Sinatra is but he was the biggest singer around at the time.
OH HELL YEAH! You're the MVP reactor of the year for this one! The Godfather is my favorite movie of all time! 🔥 Godfather Part 2 is even better, it's 3 & 1/2 hrs long though but it's worth reacting to. Your views bout to blow up for this one! 😉
According to the book, they did not know that Michael was in town when Vito was shot. he lived in New England and Sunny sent men to that town to get him.
Al Pacino hasn’t been in any iconic movie roles? ever heard of SCARFACE how many tshirts, rappers rap about it and wall movie posters of SCARFACE,Carlito’s Way,GODFATHER 2
Unsure if mentioned in other comments, but u said u cldn't tell by Michael's uniform which part of the military he was in. Michael served in the U.S. Marines during World War 2 & was awarded the Navy Cross. FYI, the Navy Cross & Army Distinguished Service Cross are the USA's 2nd highest awards for valor in combat- right under the Medal of Honor. It's why the family was proud of him for being a "hero."
Al Pacino has no memorable roles other than the 3 Godfather movies?? Check out Scarface....check out Carlito's Way....check out Scent Of A Woman....check out Heat.....Al had plenty of memorable roles.
This is like watching a movie with my mother: she makes predictions every 2 minutes like she's so smart, but she's wrong 90% of the time. 1)"...Al Pacino has not been in many iconic roles" Wrong. **Scarface**, Heat, **Scent of a Woman**, Devil's Advocate, Donny Brasco, Carlito's Way, Any Given Sunday. 2.)"...He's picking them off one by one." Wrong. ONLY Vito 3.)"They knew were he was at (Michael). The know where he's at all the time." No cell phone GPS in 1945 4)"This dude (Sonny) dont know how to deal with any situation," Wrong. Sonny is the most fear city fighter NY. He led the family in a mafia war at 19, almost wiping out the underword chieftains. The Don himself had to rein him in before the damage was irreparable. Even Tom had to tell Sonny stop killing people. 5.)"Paulie didnt no nothing. Why do they have to kill him?" 6.)"Wait for me outside the hospital." "That man is dead." "He's so sus." Wrong. Enzo helped save the Don's life, despite crippling fear. I had to stop watching halfway through Thought i'd like and subscribe. Maybe some other day.
So any criticism you're getting is due to the fact that your young and ignorant (not dumb, you just don't know some things). You also kept guessing wrong. My sincere recommendation is that you watch the film again. You'll get a bunchvof stuff the second time and it will prepare you for Part II.
Al Pacino has longevity and consistency especially he was top guy 70s to 2000s and he can act so good with very diff characters in mafia movies it’s not easy to transition the creativity on screen! For me Al Pacino, Sly, Joe Pesci are my top three
The reason they were pretty sure Paulie set up The Godfather by not showing up is because that’s how hits usually go down in the Mafia. Before moving on another family boss the attacking family will usually reach out to people within the other family to side with them. Especially someone close to the boss like his driver or a bodyguard or one of his captains. The mob doesn’t like to have to do things the hard way. They like to smooth it out. Probably told him all the other family’s are lined up against you so you’re not going to win anyway but if you go along with us we’ll make sure you’re set up as a captain or whatever after this is all over. Knowing all this it was just too convenient that Paulie just happens to get sick the day the hit goes down.
Out of curiosity, where did you watch this? The scenes in Sicily are actually supposed to have English subtitles for the Italian dialogue (the restaurant scene was intentionally left untranslated, though). Sometimes streamers forget to upload the right subtitle track. 🙄
Hey MJ I recommend that you watch The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy, Galaxy Quest, The Waterboy, Inspector Gadget, Tarzan, Flubber, Anastasia, The Prince Of Egypt, Joseph: King Of Dreams, Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, Team America: World Police, Disney’s The Kid, The Master Of Disguise, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, Scooby-Doo (2002), Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, Monsters, Inc., Monsters University, Monsters VS Aliens, Turbo, WALL-E, Legally Blonde, Forrest Gump, Madagascar, Robots, Chicken Little, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of The Were-Rabbit, The Sixth Sense, Men In Black 12&3, Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, A Beautiful Mind, Road To Perdition, M3GAN
The Godfather series is the corruption of the American dream. The death of the Don’s dreams. Death of Michael’s dreams. The death of the Corleone family.
paulie sold don corleone because he was supposed to be his bodyguard, nut instead they put fredo and don corleone was shot, paulie also sold lucca brassi
There are two more movies in the series. Watch them. The song they sing in the wedding scene is pretty risqué. Basically, a girl tells her mother that she wants to get married and asks her mother to find her a husband. The mother doesn't know what kind of husband to look for. If she finds a carpenter, he'll nail her daughter. If she finds a plumber, he'll lay some pipe. Lyrics like that. Johnny's character is (allegedly) based on Frank Sinatra. In the restaurant scene, Sollazzo basically says that he has great respect for Michael's father, but Michael's father thinks in an old-fashioned way. In the men's room scene, the story is that the props people deliberately put the revolver in a different spot so Michael would have to grope around for it. Yes, those were real photos of real mob murders. What happened when Appolonia died: Michael asks one guard where his wife is, and he replies that she wants to drive to him. Remember Fabrizzio asks Michael if his wife is coming, and Michael tells Fabrizzio she is not. Fabrizzio plants a bomb in the car expecting to kill Michael. Instead, he kills Appolonia. There was a scene deleted from the second movie where Michael's people find Fabrizzio hiding out in the USA. Let's just say what comes around goes around. And at the end, when Clemenza says, "Hello, Carlo," you know; you just know.
Not sure if my previous comment got lost when you reuploaded a video, but its worth saying again :) You should definitely watch The Wire if you haven't seen it already. It would be an incredible series to follow along with you!
There was no way to just “call” anyone while out on the street. Phone booths were around of course, but not at every location, especially on a market street like where those fruit sellers were or in poorer neighborhoods.

I’d even go as far as saying you can’t fully understand what masterpieces those two movies are without having read the book.
My kraut Mick friend
😂😂😂😂😂 and man in my position can't be made to look ridiculous.
Always turn on subtitles, even if no foreign languages are involved so you don't miss anything when you're talking to the audience.😊
BTW, $10,000 in 1945 equals about $167,000 today (so $1,000 then equals $16,700 now of course).
The hospital looked abandoned because they cleared out the entire floor for Vito for security.
Yes those were real mob hit crime scene pictures in that montage.
"The Godfather" could be a lot longer. They actually edited out more than an hour out of the film. A lot of hardcore Godfather fans watch all the edited out scenes and the Director's cut version.
also, there’s a sequel to this movie called the Godfather part two please do a reaction to it if you can great video MJ I highly recommend
This trilogy is a classic, you’ll like it for sure.
When Michael looks at his hands at the hospital he noticed during a nerve racking moment he was calm cool and collected. At that moment I think Michael realized he was made for this shit
Yes,,the pictures were real crime scene photos
The singer that shows up at the wedding is supposed to be Frank Sinatra. Now I don’t know if you know who Frank Sinatra is but he was the biggest singer around at the time.
OH HELL YEAH! You're the MVP reactor of the year for this one! The Godfather is my favorite movie of all time! 🔥 Godfather Part 2 is even better, it's 3 & 1/2 hrs long though but it's worth reacting to. Your views bout to blow up for this one! 😉
Godfather 1 is a masterpiece but part 2 is even better imo
40:00 the bomb car was for Micheal...
Distracted by that puppy 🐶 🥰
You're the first person to realise that regardless of how he feels, Michael is obligated to marry someone, in order to keep the blood-line going.
& she's Italian
According to the book, they did not know that Michael was in town when Vito was shot. he lived in New England and Sunny sent men to that town to get him.
In the book he needed corrective surgery to fix the bruise
This is one of the rare cases where the movie is much better than the book. Jaws is another example
Godfather is not! One of the greatest films of all time, it IS the Greatest film of all time!!!😊
Debatable but its considered a top 20 movie on most lists.
Blood in blood out #1 gangsta movie
@@ny_savage_saiyan2837 Absolutely not lol
Al Pacino hasn’t been in any iconic movie roles? ever heard of SCARFACE how many tshirts, rappers rap about it and wall movie posters of SCARFACE,Carlito’s Way,GODFATHER 2
I said I THOUGHT there wasn’t a lot of iconic roles because I’ve only heard of Scarface. Me not knowing≠me being dumb
It's why the family was proud of him for being a "hero."
no subtitles because what he is saying has no meaning anymore, he's about to be dead
Some people enjoy a bag of popcorn when they watch movies... and others prefer fingernails.
I bit my nails ONE TIME but I’m glad you watched past 37 mins…
Al Pacino has no memorable roles other than the 3 Godfather movies?? Check out Scarface....check out Carlito's Way....check out Scent Of A Woman....check out Heat.....Al had plenty of memorable roles.
I rank this one, part 2 and Shawshank Redemption in my top 3-5 greatest movies of all time.
all time great movie. glad you enjoyed it.
The most gas lighting sentence ever said it’s just business it’s not personal
This is like watching a movie with my mother: she makes predictions every 2 minutes like she's so smart, but she's wrong 90% of the time.
1)"...Al Pacino has not been in many iconic roles" Wrong. **Scarface**, Heat, **Scent of a Woman**, Devil's Advocate, Donny Brasco, Carlito's Way, Any Given Sunday.
2.)"...He's picking them off one by one." Wrong. ONLY Vito
3.)"They knew were he was at (Michael). The know where he's at all the time." No cell phone GPS in 1945
4)"This dude (Sonny) dont know how to deal with any situation," Wrong.
Why do they have to kill him?"
6.)"Wait for me outside the hospital." "That man is dead." "He's so sus." Wrong. Enzo helped save the Don's life, despite crippling fear.
I had to stop watching halfway through Thought i'd like and subscribe. Maybe some other day.
Nah ngl id rather you not come back…
I love the character of Tom, he is totally unflappable.
Not unflappable. He is terribly hurt when Michael and Vito cut him out.
the baby is Soffia Coppola, at the time the newborn daugther of francis ford coppola, and director of Marie Antoniette

Cosa Nostra was a secret society. No one outside of New York knew about the organization until the book came out in 1970.
Just a suggestion but the getaway with Steve McQueen from this era is very good as well
So any criticism you're getting is due to the fact that your young and ignorant (not dumb, you just don't know some things). You also kept guessing wrong. My sincere recommendation is that you watch the film again. You'll get a bunchvof stuff the second time and it will prepare you for Part II.
I'm spaniard and understand everything they speak in italian with a sicilian accent.
What a precious pup🥰🐕
Not sure what you mean by "iconic" - but Al Pacino is considered one of the best actors of his generation and played a good number of memorable roles.
Al Pacino has longevity and consistency especially he was top guy 70s to 2000s and he can act so good with very diff characters in mafia movies it’s not easy to transition the creativity on screen! For me Al Pacino, Sly, Joe Pesci are my top three
On to the sequels!
Dammit, I am going to kidnap your adorable PUPPPPYYYY!
YAAA my favorite movie of all time🔥🔥🔥🔥
The reason they were pretty sure Paulie set up The Godfather by not showing up is because that’s how hits usually go down in the Mafia. Knowing all this it was just too convenient that Paulie just happens to get sick the day the hit goes down.
ive been waiting for a reactor to notice the fuckin complete miss of a punch during that fight scene lmao
Out of curiosity, where did you watch this? The scenes in Sicily are actually supposed to have English subtitles for the Italian dialogue (the restaurant scene was intentionally left untranslated, though). Sometimes streamers forget to upload the right subtitle track. 🙄
Your puppy cotto is adorable. 🐶
Nah you’ll love part 2. It’s solid
"Say hello to my little friend"
Hey MJ I recommend that you watch

The Godfather series is the corruption of the American dream. The death of the Don’s dreams. Death of Michael’s dreams. The death of the Corleone family.
paulie sold don corleone because he was supposed to be his bodyguard, nut instead they put fredo and don corleone was shot, paulie also sold lucca brassi
Michael was in the Marine Corps, so he knows how to kill.
yes, but we don't think about that!
You sure gotta beautiful lil puppy there! Love Rots.
Part 2 is better. The greatest movie ever made.
part two is as good as the first, it is a prequel and a sequel
Yes MJ I liked you're reaction to the Godfather part 1 Do part 2 next🎉
“Hello Carlo”
god bless the subtitles ^^
Koda(or are you spelling it with a C?)is a cute little hellion😂.
Marlon Brando, the Godfather, also played Jor-El, Superman's father, in the classic Christopher Reeve films.
Do you having a gaming channel too?
Koda with a K! And yes I have a gaming channel! Just started it back up, should be on my page.
"He did everything wrong", except for killing the 2 guys.
Pacino got alotta iconic films tho...of course u got scarface, this, godfather 2, carlitos way, donnie brasco, devils advocate...ill chalk that comment up to u being a youngbuck tho...lol
Plzzz also react on the godfather II plzzz
Godfather II is my favorite of the three
Gm mj how are you doing today friend I just woke up from my nap and laying down watching snowfall ❤❤❤❤
Funny you say this about the novel .. this imo is one of the rare cases the movie is actually better .. let me say though I absolutely love the book and pretty much read it again ever 3 years or so lol .. I’m a nerd what do ya want?? But the movie distilled the book so perfectly that it just makes it so perfect. The book has so many back stories and details which I love ! And it should be noted that part 2 of the movie takes place in the book .. but man they just captured the essence of the whole thing with the first 2 movies . Part 3 is a turd though in comparison lol
Hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
This movie is really good I also have the game for it
The book is so good.
