  • Here is a quick mod and install tutorial video walking you through how to change out the buttons on your AtGames Legends Pinball 4K The Addams Family Machines with Ultimarc Gold Leaf Buttons. There is a myth in the community claiming that swapping out the buttons will reduce flipper lag on the Zen Studios Pinball Games - we'll provide slow motion video to confirm whether or not this actually does anything to improve the flipper latency and all that kinds of stuff.

Gold-plated contacts. No tarnishing nor degradation results in no deterioration in response. The contact leaves and the external connections are fully gold plated.
Self-Lubricating. Made from PA6 which is a Nylon plastic with self-lubricating properties. Not polycarbonate which can cuse wear/binding.
Low inertia The moving part of the button is ultra-light and only 10mm deep, unlike other types where the plunger extends the full depth of the button.
No Click Leaf switch means no clicking micro-switch.
No Plunger Spring The body of the button contains no large spring. This results in a uniquely low actuation force of 45 grams for the entire button.
No Hysteresis. This is the difference in button depression for the contact close and open points. On these buttons the position is the same, resulting in maximum repeated actuation performance. On micro-switch buttons this "dead" distance can be up to 1.5 mm.
Concave top. Most serious gamers prefer the classic concave tops over the convex which are commonly used on Japanese low-inertia buttons.
Robust. The limit stop of the button is supported by the button body not the switch so no chance of switch damage owing to over-enthusiastic play!
Compact integral design. No fiddly assembly after fitting through the panel. Totally enclosed leaf-switch contacts.
Economic Despite their performance these are similar in price to standard arcade buttons and the price is all-inclusive, nothing extra to pay for add-on switch options.
Nut & Thread Fixing. We have retained the traditional threaded fixing rather than the push-in design of certain other low-inertia buttons as we believe this gives the most effective permanent mounting in all types of panel up to 19mm (3/4 in).

Great video Dubs.. I agree, the change is very minor, but still worth it to me. The gold leafs FEEL much better and solid physically when I use them. I switched them in my Arcade Control Panel and ALU as well (I don't play fighters much -- if I do I have more modern buttons on A1ups). The gold leafs have a shorter travel and leaf switches were the originals back in the day when I cared about arcades (80s through early 90s). Hopefully we'll see the actual lag fixed in 6 months. lol

Always good to check, though since the lag is less when effects are turned off, that strongly suggests the issue is an ARM chipset trying to run an engine that's not best suited for it.

Flipper lag is definitely a software issue BUT to me the gold leaf switches are much smoother and just feel better. To me there's more than just the time between the switch making contact and the flipper moving. It's also the time from when my brain tells my finger to move and the switch makes contact. A grindy switch takes longer to make that initial contact.
So long story short I feel they're both an aesthetic upgrade as well as an ergonomic upgrade.

Seems it's the engine not getting along optimum with the chipset. The lag is less with effects off. They'll need to reduce other things to give them more resource cycles. If better chipset, no lag, but another hundred retail to recoup cost and profit.

I would have lit up the buttons, now that you were removing them. They still look great !

I might do the button swap, I am conflicted as I like the Baolin feel better than the gold leafs, since I split between the baolian and gold leafs on my alps. I am surprised you did the nudge, hope it doesnt make it too sensitive. I am also surprised you didnt bust out a button wrench, I love mine, it makes that removal and tightening so easy!

I’ve said all along since installing the Gold Leaf buttons that I noticed a very slight decrease in button to flipper response time. It does not completely eliminate it. Not even close. But, I’ll take an ever so slight decrease along with the fact that those buttons just look better with the table. I didn’t change out the ones on the front of the machine yet. Not sure if I will.

Not sure why people insisted that a hardware fix like that would fix the software lag.

They live in denial, new buttons maybe improved it by less than 10% these ultimarc are better than the baolin stock

You should probably use a button wrench instead of pliers, but it probably wouldn't fit because of the plunger box.

    • @PDubsArcadeLoft

Yep easy peezy with the plunger box there to just use pliers

For me, I changed all mine just for the audio difference. I hate the click sound on the stock buttons. Maybe that's a design decision and it's a cheap man's solenoid!! :)

The glue isn't stock. 19kfox used his stealth abilities to sneak into your house and applied a liberal amount of Loctite.

Do you know if the button wires on the HD ALP cabinets come with the push-tabs for easy disconnection of the wires?

They should they are the exact same buttons on the 4k and HD

I'll find out today. From other videos I've seen, it looks like they may be different, and different people mentioned a fear of damaging the wires (because they were so snug), and the use of pliers to disconnect them.
