Great info. I have had Gold Leafs on one of my ALP's for about a year. I play better on that machine than the one with stock buttons. I found on that one, changing the leaf on the nudge buttons made it too sensitive so I switched the stock on the nudge buttons. I do sort of like the feel of the og buttons too so I am conflicted on whether I will change them out on the ALP 4KP, maybe after the warranty is up lol. Using the button wrench is worthwhile investment if you switch alot of them out like I do but you got it.
There is marginally less lag with the Gold Leaf, plus they are higher quality than the OEM stock buttons. With the latest firmware update and the Gold Leaf buttons, it does seem like the lag issue has been resolved, even though AtGames still says it is an open ticket item to resolve.
Oh, the lag is very much still there and exactly the same as prior to the firmware update. Your brain is just learning how to play with it! But Zen did not submit a fix yet, so literally there is no change.
@blahcadepinball I thought that too and said the same thing to others. But then I went back to play it again a few days later after the FW update and it's true. The lag is gone. I think it's hit or miss for some cabinets.
I think the real test is with a leaf switch over a micro switch. Not sure that will fix the problem either, but that is the argument I have seen on the boards.
So from what I understand, this button by ultimarc is not a micro switch at all, but is a non adjustable leaf switch. I do have standard pinball leaf switches in my PinSim cab, fully adjustable. And while it would be an experiment to try, ultimately it’s pointless as it’s a confirmed software issue. There are other vids out there that have measured the stroke in slow-mo compared to button push and the conclusion is always the same. Plus with those switches, you have to stretch the clips to be wider to fit over the connector, something I didn’t have to do with the Ultimarc buttons.
Not relevant to Zen Studios pinball lag you have had but I had to replace the micro switch flippers to gold leaf on my ALP HD recently and noticed less lag when playing OTG. Hopefully Zen will get this sorted quickly 🤞
I’ve only just started getting OTG going, and that was certainly a factor in the back of my mind for doing the swap. My installed GPU sucks though so I won’t notice much till I swap that out.
While the term "quickly" is a relative term.... IMHO, getting it sorted out "quickly" has been out the window for 3 months or more. On December 1, 2023 AtGames promised us 17 Zen tables would be available for pre-order in that same month of December. Here it is April 1st and they have whittled the list of 17 down to 3 tables that they were supposed to announce dates for in March, which they once more completely missed. At this point it's beyond ridiculous. Many people like myself bought this machine as their 2nd AtGames machine, only buying based on the promise of getting Zen tables on it - not to re-buy higher resolution versions of all the HD tables. So here we are April 1st and I have Addams Family and Snoopy (and I didn't even want Snoopy, only bought it to have a new table) plus re-issues of what I already had. I should have the 17 Zen tables they promised me 4 months ago before the table even arrived. And as of today there's not a single hard promise date out there for when we might be able to get any. They should have figured out the problem before they started delivering hardware and promising dates for software that obviously wasn't near ready. Bollucks!
I absolutely hate the lag. Bought both Zen games and won't play them again unless fixed. You shouldn't have to time when the flipper actuates to play. Not fun at all.
I still play them as even in this state I enjoy them for layout and game rules way more than most of the other tables. But yes, it’s not how you should have to play and my contacts at Zen have assured me they are still working on a fix for it.
It's improved as of 1.14. But still not enough. Supposedly 1.15 will be the magic sauce I'm hearing? I'll believe it when I see it. I bought a really awesome OTG machine, and that's really what I got it for anyways.
Great video. Audio/music could be lowered to hear you better but overall awesome. Thank you !
Hehe, I was experimenting with having music while talking and struggled with a sweet spot. If I do that again, I’ll make sure to lower the levels.
Thanks for doing the experiment! Very helpful.

I’ve seen that wrench and thought, why would I need that? Ha! Woulda saved me some headache for sure.

Good helpful video thanks

The buttons have failed on my alp
