Hamburg with Kids - 4 Days

Having taken 2 flights from Poland, we had dinner at Jolie for traditional Wiener Schnitzel, ribs, and other tasty German food, and settled in at our lively neighborhood of St. Pauli, the Reeperbahn. I guess for Germany, it’s kind of the crazy, hippy spot.

The restaurants all around us were amazing, and we had an incredible breakfast the next morning before heading to meet long-lost relatives! Family we’ve never met, but Nana found on Ancestry.com. We’ve been looking forward to meeting them in person for 18 years, ever since we found them online.
It turns out some of our ancestors had twins long ago. One moved to America and one stayed in Germany. Astrid is descended from the one that stayed. We met her family for dinner and got to know our European family!
Today we drove to Verdin with Astrid to meet more family. They set up a really beautiful tea party for us. It was a lovely way to meet family that we haven’t connected with for hundreds of years. We looked at old photos of the family and Nana’s mom, Delta Jaeger when she was a baby. The kids got to eat chocolate and go on some great swings. We went to lunch with Ilsa, Anna and Silka (none of them were actually named after Disney princesses though.) The kids jumped on the trampoline, and we all had more cake. After meeting the family and taking a train back, we met up with Chris (who had worked all day) and had an amazing dinner.
The next day, we went suitcase shopping cause mine got destroyed on the plane. Dad also shipped a suitcase back to Maui. Then we went to the city center in Hamburg!
We stopped at Saint Nikolai Memorial, a church bombed during World War 2 air raids. We also saw the Hamburger Rathaus, their town hall.
We went to dinner at a fancy Japanese restaurant on the roof of a department store called Yoshi.
We also happened upon the hamburg Ironman competition.
Another train! We worked on homework sheets and Dd edited videos.
