The Hamburg Tourist Board should just scrap all their ads, and use your video for promoting Hamburg 😊
Loved it. I'm a South African staying here in Hamburg, and loving it.
hahaha omg! THANK YOU!
I am German and live in South Africa :) My father's from Hamburg - that's why I clicked on this video.
It’s always so nice to see the city you’ve been living in for so many years trough the eyes of an outsider. Makes me value the day to day things that are nowadays so normal and unexciting to me way more again. 😊
Agree, I grew up in Hamburg and left as soon as possible because its so stressful living there. But it really is beautiful.
The Speicherstadt is actually host to a lot of Hamburg's Coffee and Tea culture because many of Germany's biggest importers settled there and still have their offices there to this day, all dating back to the Hanse days. The place you went to, the aptly named Speicherstadt Coffee actually has (in my humble little opinion) the best coffee beans in Germany. They have dozens of different roasts so there's something there for everyone. The beans are actually Demeter approved which is just about the most rare seal of approval you can get in terms of organic foods, meaning from the farming process to how they are roasted, everything is checked with a pretty anal standard for quality, so you actually know something is worth it's high cost when you see that green Demeter Organic label on there.
Meanwhile the other Café "Barrossa" is more or less a tourist trap. Been there, not even remotely worth the price. Views from seating are nice, but that's all you get.
Thank you for a wonderful vlog Phoebe! Hamburg is such a beautiful city,my favorite German city.Planten und Blumen, what an amazing place. And Fishbrotchen with salmon,so delicious. And I notice you love coffee.Same here.Beautiful buildings, friendly people. The city has such a good vibe.Well done!
I sure do love coffee 🥰 Thanks for watching ✨🙏🏼
Things i can reccomend for visiting Hamburg if you stay longer.
The Miniaturwunderland, its the biggest modelrailway you can visit, it streches over multiple floors and has a great detail. If you want to see all you can plan a whole day for it)
Alter Elbtunnel, Its the first tunnel crossing the elbe, its right beside the "landungsbrücken"
The Harbour. There are harbour drives you can book to get a tour around but you can also explore the harbour by public transport on your own via the ferries.
Thank you for watching! :)
The city of excitement is Hamburg. We have been . It's so easy to get around, great food. It's party time. We enjoyed the Eibphiharmonie and the Miniatur Wunderland especially . Lotas to do
and never enough time to see it all. Hope you had a great time there, Phoebe . Sending you much love❤❤ from our current location San Vincente, Cape Verde Is. Harriet, Jim and Yuki
haha you two have been EVERYWHERE! I love it :) Thank you so much for always watching and supporting me. Have a great day. Phoebe x
The Thing about Hamburg is that as a Local you hardly ever visit the Tourist Spots, most great Places are the ones that you would not find so easily without leaving the Citycenter and Elbe. Or maybe as a local i am just having a hard time enjoying places that are so touristy, idk :).
You caught a beautiful day though and it looked like you had a great time.
Cheers from Hamburg
As a local, try walking around more often and consciously decide to take another route than last time. I work in St. Pauli and once or twice a week eat lunch at Gänsemarkt. Sometimes I walk through Planten un Blomen, sometimes through Johannes-Brahms-Platz, sometimes Großneumarkt ... suddenly you find yourself in streets like Peterstraße or Bäckerbreitengang, which look like straight out of 1800. One step sideways and you're in Speckstraße in the middle of the alternative scene. I can go to the same location 8 times a month and have walked 16 routes and never once did the same twice.
Thanks for watching 🥰🙏🏼
Thank you for your wonderful homage to my hometown. There is much more to discover.
Glad you enjoyed it! 🥰🙏🏼
Marseille and Chicago are two of Hamburgs sister cities - love those places, so looks like Hamburg is a winner! Lol. Great video as always! Looking forward to your next destination!
Oh wow, I didn't know that!! It would be so cool to film a series visiting sister cities one after the other and compare them!
Yeah Hamburg has some beautuful sister citys with Marseille, Chicago, Saint Petersburg, Shanghai, Osaka, Prague and Dresden(dating back to the time Germany was divided in west and east).
I havent been to Dar es Salaam or León but I bet they are beautiful aswell.
I love browsing supermarkets when travelling. So satisfying
Isn’t it the best?! Love seeing all their goodies!
I would LOVE to see a second channel featuring grocery stores!! This is also one of my favourite things to check out when travelling. I think it gives you a view into everyday life for the locals.
Love your channel and content!
Actually, I should probably just combine it here, right? Just film a shorter episode dedicated to supermarket snooping and post those in addition to the vlogs :)
Go for it! Grocery store shopping channel/vlogs are gon b a hit! 😃 and you can be yourself and enjoy it anyways!

Translation of the loudspeaker announcement at the fish market: The fish market closes at 9.30 a.m. We thank you for your visit and hope that you were able to shop well and cheaply. The market supervision and the traders wish you a pleasant journey home and a nice Sunday. In Hamburg they say goodbye and come back to the Altona fish market soon.
Hi phoebe 💖 glad to see you fall in love with hamburg, you are amazing and you are like sunshine on a rainy day,I'm grateful for your vlog,I can't wait to watching more, you are one of a kind ✨️ take good care of yourself.
Oh I'm so glad you think so :) Thank you so much for the kind words! P x
My home city 🙂 great video! Hamburg has so much more to offer. Next time you need to see the alster 🙂
Thank you so much! 🥰🙏🏼
Ah great! I'm a new subscriber and have been enjoying your videos. We're headed to Hamburg next month, so this was really helpful and made us excited. Thanks! -S
Hello from Hamburg, so glad that you likes it here 👍
Hello! Thank you so much :) I adore it!
Supermarkets are a great way to get a feel for a new place. So glad to know we’re not the only ones!! Have a great time continuing your European journeys! Rob&Erin
Totally agree, Rob!! Are you and Erin back home now after your adventures or still on the road?? Hope you've been having a wonderful time :) P x
Naw, we’re back home for the next few months. Got a road trip planned to see family and then a trip to the Florida Keys. Next big journey will be to near where you are-hoping to go to Munich! Alles gute!
That sounds delightful! Munich is fantastic :)
Just Subscribed! I'm pretty sure you won't have ANY problem getting a date (when you're ready). At age 77, just wish I were 50 years younger! I'll be in Hamburg in about 2 weeks on a Norwegian cruise and now soooo am looking forward to Hamburg. I get it that you almost skipped Hamburg. I've been to Germany many times, lived in Karlsruhe for 2 years long ago and NEVER even thought about visiting Hamburg. You have changed all that. Your delivery is so easy to listen to and watch. Thanks.
You made me feel more excited about the city I am moving to (next month) now that I've watched your video !! Thanks :D
Hamburger Dom is a Must visit when it is going and you are in Hamburg. But you should also visit the real North of Germany , Schleswig -Holstein, even if it's more rural, Esther North Sea, Heide, Wattenmeer or the other side like Flensburg, where you should try the beer with the same name!😃
Thank you for watching! :)
Your vlogs are very informative and encouraging for solo travel. Travel for Phoebe keep making vlogs like this you have my support forever.❤
you are such travel goals 🙌🏻 i want to go to all the places you vlogged you make it seem safe for solo womyn travelers and the places look really organized and clean
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Loved it. Hello from Hamburg ❤
Yay! Thank you! 🥰🥰🥰
Fischmarkt, Landungsbrücken, the Harbor, St. Pauli, Reeperbahn, Große Freiheit 36 (Kaiserkeller) all the favorite places were The Beatles felt very happy 17.08.1960 - 31.12.1962. Because it was similar to Liverpool. At one day John Lennon bought a young piglet at the Fischmarkt, called it "Bruno" (Bruno Koschmider was unfriendly Manager of Kaiserkeller) and walked the Reeperbahn with the piglet on a dog leash.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
As always the simplicity of your vlogs being yourself enjoying the moment paying attention to those little details is what makes your videos so much fun to watch
Best wishes Phoebs 💪👏
Thank you so much! So glad you see the beauty in the videos :) I prefer people use my full name rather than Phoebs. Too much like the Friends character for me haha
@@travelforphoebe alrighty phoebe 😉
You should come back and visit the biggest tourist attraction in Germany, The "Miniaturwunderland". Miniture wonderland in english. It's the biggest miniture rail-simulation in the world, located in the "Speicherstadt".
Oh wow!! I had heard about it but wasn’t sure it was right for me 🥰
@@travelforphoebeand it was right next to the Kaffeerösterei. (Where you should buy the Kaffeekekse - coffee cookies next time you're there). And I know it sounds like it would only be for people who are all into the miniture railroad building hobby but it's a real fun thing to see. They have a UA-cam channel, you can get an idea about it if you watch their videos but in person it is much more fun.
supermarket run is my absolute favourite to do while travelling!!! please feature them more!!! :D
It’s so much fun!
Hamburg in the Summer its a very very nice Place maybe the best town in germany! So many place in this City there can have fun . A wonderfull place is the Stadtpark in Barmbeck Winterhude and the Live Music on the Freilichtbühne in this big Green Park must See!
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼😍🤘🏻
I hope you visited my hometown too!? If you are already in Hamburg you must also visit the Queen of the Hanseatic League Lübeck. Only 45 minutes by train north from Hamburg. ;)
Thank you for watching! :)
glad you enjoy your Trip ! ☺ best regards from here, Hamburg 🥰
Thank you! 😃
You were lucky to come at a time when the Dom was in town. I recall it used to come twice a year. If you want a REAL panoramic view of Hamburg, go on that Ferris Wheel -- at night! I went with my step daughter and a friend after school one day, and it was the one and only time in my life when I was on a roller coaster in a blizzard! Gotta love the German spirit! ;~) And if you're gonna have some sweets, you gotta try the Spritzkuchen with a nice coffee. Sehr lecher! Coming from Chicago, I really considered Hamburg my second home, one of my own choosing.
Not Serena van der Woodsen giving me a tour of Hamburg 😍
If you loved the curved escalator, then come to Hannover, we have a parabolic dome lift in the New Town Hall travelling up 160feet. ;-)
Thanks for reviewing the North of Germany 🤩
Exploring grocery store’s is a vibe🌞🤙🏽
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼🥰
Awsome video .I would love to go back
The announcement at the fish market was: " ...was over at 9:30. We thank you for your visit and hope that you were able to shop well and cheaply. The market supervision and the traders wish you a pleasant journey home and a nice Sunday. In Hamburg we say Tschüss (goodbye) and come back soon to the Altona Fish Market."
You did not show the traditional barkers. That is the most important thing at the fish market. Good-humoured shouting traders who always have a silly joke on their lips.
I am still happy that you liked Hamburg! The most ^beautiful City in the world!
Thanks so much for translating! Where can people find the bakers you mentioned? I didn’t see them but would love to have!
Thank you for this beautiful depiction of my hometown 😂
But what was very funny to me, the Kaufland is by far the worst supermarket in the area. Spent some years at the University Berliner Tor, and if you ever come back, go to Lange Reihe, it's just a bit further and there you got nice coffee places, restaurants and the EDEKA there is one of the best supermarkets of Germany. Take care.
Thanks for watching!
6:19 "The market time ended at 9:30 AM already. We thank for your visit and hope that you could shop well and cheap. The market supervision and the dealers wish you a pleasant way home and also a nice sunday. In Hamburg one says 'tschüß' (means bye and is a reference to a famous song by Heidi Kabel ua-cam.com/video/Ver_hkIMASo/v-deo.html ) and come back soon to the Altona fish market"
Thanks for translating!
Hamburg is the city where coffee arrives for central Europe...basically. ^^ No wonder they have good ones. ^^
I just booked to go to Hamburg last night from 8th June til 12th, so been checking out videos, and this one is the best I've saw so far. Did you find it expensive for food, beer and coffee? I found Berlin very cheap, but Munich was alot more expensive. I'm from Glasgow in Scotland, probably the cheapest big city in the UK so I'm used to good prices 😂.
Wow! Thank you so much - that means a lot :) I found it on-par with European prices. It's always quite expensive to me coming from Australia but well worth it!
@@travelforphoebeYou're very welcome 😊. I was in Australia in 2011 in palm cove just outside cairns and it was crazy expensive, but my mate and his girlfriend (she's aussie) were in Scotland this year, they live in Mackay, also in QLD, and they thought Scotland was really expensive for food, so I guess things change over time 😂 I got like $1.30ish to £1 at the time but now I think it's around £1 to $2 so the AUD is weaker, but I don't think you guys have as bad inflation as Europe and the USA just now, Palm Cove was real nice and more expensive than Cairns though, but I didn't expect it to be so pricy at the time.
Hey, great! Kind Regards from Hamburg
Thank you! 🥰🙏🏼
It's also pretty ironic that Edeka is the nation's second largest chain of super markets and grocery prices have been the highest they've ever been in the past lord knows how many years. Really goes to show how different it can be to experience between the other countries you've been and even just Berlin where everything costs 10x more than it reasonably should. Also the Edeka grocery store Sushi is the only kind I would ever eat, but there's also naturally a lot of great sushi restaurants or fast casual options here as well that will taste even better and are often still fairly priced.
God bless you and your family
Greetings from Hamburg!
I live near Hamburg and its such a beautiful city, but i dont have anyone here right now to explore together with hahaah
Thanks for watching ✨🙏🏼
Really good made
G*day mate. Yes, HH is one of the most popular cities in Germany and always worth for a visit. Of course You should have discovered more but you have to go forward as well. Seems you r a coffee junkie as well but Starbucks where you could find so many other coffee roasting shops in HH. Most of the beans are coming in here or in Bremen. Btw, do you know that Starbucks never made it downunder, especially in Melbie. Hope you have great your flag. Love your accent and the way you vlog. C'ya
Superlatives Hamburg
We are the city of Moin and Ahoy, from “Hummel-Hummel”, “Mors-Mors” and the Lemon Jette.
The city of Franzbrötchen, Labskaus and where you drink beer from the “Knolle”!
Here, according to legend, a headless man passed 11 of his comrades!
We are celebrating the largest harbor festival in the world here, right “next to” the largest historical warehouse complex and the smallest restaurant in the world!
We live in the city with the world's first police station and the largest park cemetery.
There is also the oldest adventure zoo and the only tunnel for vehicles in the world that can be reached via elevators. This is also the first river tunnel in Europe. Here you will find most of the bridges in Europe, including the two longest in Germany. Large boats can be observed on the longest pontoon system in Europe.
It is not only the city with the most bridges, but also the city with the most weekly markets in Europe. Goods are offered from the largest contiguous fruit-growing area in Northern Europe and the largest flower and vegetable growing area in Germany! The first ice cream parlor in Germany is on the first completely asphalted road in Germany and not far from it oldest steamship in operation in Germany. It bears the name of the district in which the oldest general hospital in Germany is located: St. Georg. St.Georg and St.Pauli, two districts named after saints, are also the most sinful! In the “speicherstadt” (THE warehouse complex, see above) you will find the international maritime museum with the largest private maritime collection in the world. You can also find the world in miniature in the Speicherstadt: the miniature wonderland, which is the largest tourist attraction in Germany and itself boasts many other Guinness world records.
This is HAMBURG, my City, the far north, the hottest city in the world!
"The market closes at 9:30 am. We thank you for your visit and hope that you shopped good and cheap. The market supervision and traders wishes you a good way home and a beautiful sunday. In Hamburg we say TSCHÜÜÜÜÜÜS ;-) And please come back soon to the Altona Fishmarket"
Hamburg my love :o)))

Never been to Hamburg, hopefully I'll get to visit someday. I wake up at 9 or 10am, so there's no way I can make it to that market place. Lol! Also, I love the Brown Sugar Oatmilk expresso at Startbucks. I always tell them not to make it too sweet though, I don't like sweet coffee drinks either.
Ahhhhh okay! I need to do that next time and tell them to go easy on the sugar cos it was crazy sweet!
If you want to do it right, then you don't have to get up in the morning.
Instead, you go to St.Pauli on Saturday evening, party until 5 a.m. and then go to the fish market.
That's definitely how you do it as a hamburger in Hamburg.

Hi!
Hello!
Ya wanna travel around or hang out with me......😂
Have you ate a hamburger?
Regarding the Capuccino: Germany notoriously fails when it comes to things like modern coffee as you'd expect in Australia, NZ, the States etc. If you don't look up specific coffee places that offer latte art (I always check google maps images before) or coffee roastaries, you'll usually have someone make your coffee who has never really studied the art of coffee or if, the basis of that knowledge is 20 years old. Poor Barista skills. In other words, capuccino style with lot's of foam in stead of creamy milk and latte art etc. Even worse, most places use in Germany use automated machines. Oh and also Germans still order Latte Macchiatto, that's sooo 2005. However: I am surprised that this roastary isn't up-to-date in style. Otherwise I can't explain your comment with half full cup :D Perhaps too big cup? Original Capuccino isn't that much. They should start offering Lattés, Flat Whites etc. :D
You haven't even seen the most beautiful part of Hamburg yet - the Außenalster and the neighboring districts of Wunterhude, Harvestehude and Eppendorf. Also Blankenese and the Elbbeach!
Oh wow!!
hahah yeah...the locals claim that at least :D
Jaenischpark, Oevelgönne, Altes Land with the half-timbered houses and so much more ;)
Oh yes and about the "missing high-rise buildings" -> no high-rise building is higher than the highest church tower; I'm just not sure if this is in the building regulations or an unwritten law :)
Even the new high-rise buildings that are to be built at Diebsteich train station are “only” 60 and 90 meters high.
As a rule, only chimneys, transmission masts and the like are higher than the St. Nikolai Tower and the other churches.
Although a high-rise building with a height of 245 meters is planned soon. -> I don't think it's good, something like that spoils the overall picture.
You missed the whole city and the most beautifull places. Even the Fischbrötchen was tourristy stuff...
The south is also nice with the harburger berge and the heathland 😉
Greetings from Hamburg!
Pro tip: In Germany, you don't necessarily have to look for an ATM, because in (almost) all supermarkets where you can pay with your card (Apple Pay, etc.), you can withdraw additional cash (up to €200) at the checkout. Simply say before paying that you want extra cash. The money will then be added to the bill and handed to you at the checkout.
Thank you!
I guess only Aldi isnt doing this but not sure
It is.@@Fillaaaaa
Visiting the grocery store in other countries is my absolute fave thing to do! Definitely keen to see more of this in your videos!
Hahahha i honestly thought you all would think I was so weird if I included supermarkets in my videos 😂

Hello, thank you for this great report about Hamburg. I was born in Hamburg and still live here. I love my hometown and still enjoy it.
There are many great cities in the world, but I'm always happy when I come back.
I hope you come back to Hamburg sometime.
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏🏼😄
I love your obsession with coffee quality.
One thing that makes Hamburg special is how all the different groups of people share a lot of the same spaces. You saw it at Fischmarkt with those who got up early and those who stayed up late. Reeperbahn has theaters, strip clubs and live music bars on the same street. You have top tier restaurants in the most alternative neighborhoods. Hamburg is one of the cities with the most millionaires in Germany, but also a centre for leftist activism and underground culture.
That is such a good observation, you’re right! I loved that about the places I visited 🥰
We visit Hamburg 2 or 3 times a year from the Netherlands. We are in love with Hamburg too. It’s not only the most beautiful city in Germany, but in all Europe !
Oh wow! That’s so lovely you get to visit so often. I can see why - it’s amazing 🥰
@@travelforphoebe Hamburg is northern Germany’s busy metropolis. It’s also Europe’s third biggest port, the world’s fifth largest maritime cargo hub, and has been singled out by the Financial Times Group as the leading place to do business in Europe. In Bitkom’s Smart City Index for 2019, Hamburg took the top slot. Its work-life balance was rated fourth best in the world that same year by the US company Kisi Inc.
"The most beautiful city in the world!" (Hamburg's slogan: Die schönste Stadt der Welt.
As others have said before, the DOM is pretty much the biggest carnival of the year, like a state fair would be in the US except it happens more than once a year and stays around for a while both times. If it wasn't for the damage that the winter weather would cause, I'm pretty sure we would keep it around all year long, hard to get tired of it ever.
Makes me glad to live here :)) And I am feeling the urge to show you all the "local stuff", bc there is soooo much more! You have only been to the centre and I am always sad that the tourists only get to know this. Every part of the city is different and has its own centre... What I like about living here, is that you can hang around outside all day and make new friends everyday, if you want to. But also are very anonymous, bc there are so many people.
Thanks for watching
That‘s exactly what I thought. She has not seen the Elbchaussee, Blankenese, Nienstedten, not Europe‘s biggest park cemetery, not the Außenalster, the Stadtpark, not the Willkommhöft either, which is where all vessels coming and leaving are greeted or said goodbye, and so much more…
It's so nice to see someone exploring my wonderful hometown and being so happy! And there are so many other cool and beautiful places in Hamburg that you must visit so come back soon! :)

I feel the best way to see a new country is to go and experience their super markets, its also happens to be my favourite thing to do when I visit a new country apart from everything.
YES! I love it so much :)
Thanks for an interesting and fun tour of Hamburg. Clearly an under-rated destination. Good job exploring it for us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Small coffee roasteries like the one in the speicherstadt are part of the reason why Starbucks didn’t really catch on in Germany and Hamburg in specifically. We already have a history of good coffee and then a company like star bucks comes around with their sub par coffee and just can’t get a share of the market
Thanks for watching 🥰🙏🏼
I grew up in Oceania, came to Germany some 22 years ago as a young and handsome man, hooked up and dated in Denmark, but live ever since in Hamburg for love and life. Hope you do find a new date and love too, and come back to Hamburg like many others including me. Love your videos too. Take care.

Hmmm... Coming to Germany - the place that's notoriously against even cards, and trying to rely on Apple Pay... Brave move 😂
I hope you are there for the street food festival. It’s amazing.
Sadly, on! But that sounds EPIC!
We actually have two botanical gardens, the old one Planten and Blomen (Dutch name btw) and the slightly newer and smaller Loki-Schmidt-Garden, named after one of our cities heroes, who was also the wife of former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt. It's a small drive outside of the city center, but completely worth it in my opinion. Inside there's Café Schmidt, which has like 4 locations in all of town and they're all in the west side, so going to the garden and getting the opportunity to go to the Café is pretty much worth it on its own, even without considering how cool the garden is. There's also plenty of other things to see on the west side and best of all, you can get there so easily by taking a quick boat trip down the Elbe from Landungsbrücken to Teufelsbrück and then the garden ist just 3 bus stops or a 15 minute walk from there.
the name "planten un blomen" is low german, not dutch. It's part of the "Niederdeutsche Gartenschau" so the low german garden exhibition. The name means plants and flowers.
Your European vids are amazing ! great work Phoebe :)

@@travelforphoebeit may sounds boring but it’s the most popular tourist attraction in whole Germany! It’s absolutely incredible!
I really enjoy your vlogs showing us beautiful places of Hamburg and l appreciate that you look
So happy and charming showing us alone the beauty of Hamburg great job 👏
Thanks so much! 😊
I enjoyed your video very much, Having grown up in Hamburg I still miss the city even after 36 years living in the US. A lot of the places (except the elbphilharmonie wasn't built yet) I visited while still living in Hamburg. Btw that solitary church tower (St. Nicholas) was destroyed in 1943 and was designed by an English architect and was finished in 1874 and is now a memorial. I am glad you had a good time in my hometown.
Thanks for watching 🥰🙏🏼

Hey Phoebe, great travel videos to motivate single solo travelers
Thanks!
Don't pay for Elbphilharmonie Plaza tickets!
Even if there's a long queue at the ticket desk at the entrance of the Elbphilharmonie itself, there's another option to get your free Plaza ticket right across the street in the "Elbphilharmonie Besucherzentrum" (address "Am Kaiserkai 62"), where there's usually a much shorter or no queue at all!
The costs of building the Elbphilharmonie have been a spicy topic over the last one and a half decades here in the city. One promise to justify such a huge public investment into this project had been to keep barriers to access to the Elbphilharmonie low in as many ways as possible and the free access to the plaza is an important symbolic part of that, but it is nowadays quite often under threat of political change. I think it is important to remind the political class that the citizens of Hamburg have payed for the Elbphilharmonie and that they demand to keep access to the plaza free!
If you don't think it's right to not pay for the plaza, just do it properly and get a concert ticket. It's an even more beautiful experience!
Wow THAT is an excellent tip!!!
As a Hamburg resident, I really like your portrayal of my city.👍😊As other commenters have already written, we have plenty of other places that deserve to be portrayed so well by you also. But one day is just one day.
Sounds like I need to come back?!
