Many years ago I met Anthony Newley at the Palace Theatre in London after his show 'THe Good Old Bad Old Days', I adored him then, and still love hearing his musical work which much of it he wrote with Leslie Bricusse, On A Wonderful Day Like Today, Who Can I Turn Too, The People Tree, Candyman, the list goes on, and on. What a great talent.
I remember seeing this when it first aired and being so moved. I never thought I'd get to see it again. Thank you so much. I remember Alan King saying later in an interview that he asked AN to write a song for this award show, and he came up with this song. Just brilliant. King went on to say that he sent a cassette copy of the song to all those in attendence. Genius.
Absolutely unbelievable. I don't know where these hidden gems come from, but I thank God every time I see a new (to me) a version of a song and performance I've never seen!! Thanks so much for lifting my mood
As many of the comments here state, I saw him perform this song on TV when he first performed it and it absolutely gripped me. I was in my 20’s. Now I’m in my 70’s and this song still brings a tear to my eye. I never understood how such a song could grip me like “Funny Man” could. That’s how I remember it.
Amazing how he could come up with a song so easily. So handsome and superbly talented. I would have loved to have been there that night in the front row.
Amazing. I am very glad to see this original version from 1975.

So lucky you are to have met him. I still listen to his music today. LOVE YOU, ANTHONY.

I actually remember watching this performance on the American Comedy Awards years ago
Such a well written song, and a joy to perform.
Perfection' love this song 10/10
And these are still ‘The Good old Bad Old Days’. He was simply wonderful.
