I'm loving these vids. When I was 13 I had a part-time job on a Saturday and earned just enough to buy an LP each week and I remember buying the first two Big Daddy Kane LP's on Cold Chillin' (Warner). I was a huge Kane fan and was lucky enough to win tickets to see him live in Brighton, UK a few years back! What a show! I was also lucky enough to see Slick Rick play the same venue - his first time back in the UK since he was a kid living in South London.. anyway, these frank and honest interviews shed plenty of light on what was really going on at the time in the rap 'business'.. :)
Pop Art is overlooked in the history of Hip Hop. They were the launching pad for the Juice Crew and the home of the Hilltop Hustlers in Philly: Steady B, Cool C, Three Times Dope, Da Youngsta's.
Yes Fly Ty Williams is 100% correct we as a people (Black Americans) need to get back to owning our own record labels again, this time we should not sell out to the majors, because if the major record labels catch a cold the smaller record labels they were funding which they did in the case of "Cold Chillin Records" as well as other labels like "LaFace", "Deathrow Records, "Bad Boy Records" etc will catch the flu as many records did back in the early 2000s when the major labels merged with each other and a lot of smaller labels which made these major labels thrive and be successful went out of business and or was sold
The Thing I Learned Over The Years About Mr. Magic I Admire is This Brother was Self-Made, A Boss!! Roxanne Shante Is Cemented in History in The Guinness Book Of World Records. The Roxanne Wars. Hip-Hop Radio Rivalry Magic vs. Red Alert. I Miss Them Days...✌🏿KING.
Ok I am sold. I will buy. MC Shan came to my hometown in Connecticut. I was probably in 5th grade. Seeing Shan walk into the Yerwood Center was like seeing Super Man...
This is the dopest Hip-Hop history interview ever! I remember everything he's talking about (from a fan's perspective). Much respect to Fly Ty. I wish the segments didn't overlap each other, but hey, at least I get a chance to be privy to this insider information. Does Fly Ty talk about Mr. Magic falling asleep behind the 1's & 2's?

@Antoine M.: Not being sarcastic or anything, but back in the 70s-80s, when #HipHop, {]as we know it started...}, was born, 'mad people' lived in, say... any given suburb in the U.S.A., where it was heavily pale populated, and *that much* raw real organic dope talent wasn't netted. Man, I always liked that air check of Shante's, Roxanne's Revenge. That joint is much more raw than the official record. I remember hearin' that joint on our floor stereo system. The drums on that joint was bassy as fuk. Damn, I wish I could find that version.
Damn Shan would love to hear this He always said Ty robbed him but never said exactly how. MC Shan would make for a dope interview by the way....DEFINITELY looking forward to the next segment!!!
So in other words the Goodman bro's took the song before they could shop it.Sounds like they kind of bullied them to sign if they took the record and pressed it up.Cat's where gangsta's ya see KRS was in the Steady b serious vid from london conveniently in london.
What’s up with the static bro. You should record the sound on separate track. I appreciate the rawness bro but come on good quality is cheap to produce these days. I love the videos though. But these stories are too important to be winging it.
Yo! I hate the promo for this great interview. Why do you have to promo it by saying stories of drugs, guns and violence? That's a by product of the environment but the story is and should about the music!
I be fiending for these Fly Ty clips. Props. Keep em coming!!!
Thanks
