Deadly venomous Rhinoceros viper (Bitis nasicornis) from Africa, gabino - hybrid with Gaboon viper

- Deadly venomous Rhinoceros viper (Bitis nasicornis) is one of the most beautiful snakes in the world. This big viper species lives in forests of Africa. Rhinoceros vipers (also known as river jack) are well camouflaged in the leaf litter, although it seems that their colorful body must be well visible. This species rarely bites people as it usually lives deep in the tropical forest. It is endangered by habitat loss and collecting for pet trade. Rhinoceros viper and Gaboon viper hybridize and produce gabino. Gabino viper is extremely colorful hybrid and we were lucky to see one in the wild. Watch the video to see these amazing wild venomous snakes in their natural habitat!
Whoever your audio person is should win a Grammy. Outstanding.
Thank you very much!!! We are happy that you like this video!
@@LivingZoology I agree with the above. The forest noises are particularly captivating. Would you happen to be able to identify the whooping call (at the beginning) that got louder and louder - a ground dwelling bird?
@@CEROTOPHRYS Thank you!! We are sorry but we are not sure which bird makes that sound.

They're coming with the titan boa
Beautiful but extremely dangerous and it's so amazing how they are like invisible on the ground I'm not surprised if alot of people have stepped on them by accident
These snakes live usually in the forest where not many people go. In fact they are becoming so rare that stepping on one is almost impossible! We walk for days - kilometers in the forest to find one snake.
Great footage as always. I can’t imagine how much work, time and money went into making this. Keep up your wonderful productions!
Thank you so much!!! You are right, huge amount of work, time and money, but we love this work! After 5 years one of us could make UA-cam as main job :)

Ambush vipers have some of the most beautifully patterened and coloured scales. Natures beautiful tell tale sign of danger and at the same a way to disappear from the gazing eyes of potential enemies and potential dinner alike. As a little boy I always wanted to see this snake moving on the forest floor and not just look at it's stills in a book or magazine, as a man I can say that little boy never left after seeing this snake. You and staff have created a herpetologist's feast for the eyes with these videos. Good job!
Thank you very much for your nice comment! :) Happy to provide footage which makes you feel like you are in the rainforest with the snake.

Bravo, great work and a gorgeous snake! As a snake lover I really love the films on your channel, and have actually learned about some new species. And the absence of a narrator's voice and use of natural jungle sounds makes the experience so much better...just transports me to the forest, as if I'm watching these characters in real. Amazing man, look forward to more. Perhaps some snakes from India/ S-SE Asia?
Thank you very much! It is very nice to read such a positive comment :) We hope that next year we will have the chance to film America or Asia. Hopefully, India will open its borders!
Watching a snake shed makes me itchy, I can only imagine how they feel doing that.
Good point! Who knows how the snake feels before shedding!
Maybe the most beautiful of all vipers! I fell in love with that species back in my childhood days when I first saw a picture in a reptile book...Thanks for the video!

Wow fantastic video. :-)

If you say to any artist on this planet take whatever colour you want and paint me the most beautyfull snake you can imagine, Im 100% sure no one would surpass the beauty of the Bitis rhi.
Its just so much over anything in art humans can do.
You are probably right, many people think that this is the most beautiful snake in the world! The natural design is the best!!
It is as beautiful as the Gaboon viper.
Wow que increíble, vine por lo del logo de BTS y me quede asombrada de lo bonita que es 💜💜
Gracias! 🙏
My absolute favorite viper. They are gorgeous in the wild.
You are right, amazing snakes!
Pretty yet not as vibrant and rewarding when in a pseudo habitat setting no matter how natural you think you have made them feel.... There is a certain instinct animals including ourselves have that kicks in when in a naturally exposed free ranged and wild world. Their habitat is what instinctively had them become the amazing animals they are as with any living organism niching to survive. Humans can morphologically alter characteristics but nothing compares to evolution.
@Jack Niehopper fossils and genetics don't lie or show bias... If you have the time and patience to caretake captive wildlife then you madam/sir are exercising scientific work that leads to the knowledge of these great organisms that have existed well beyond our more immediate ancestry.
It has the BTS logo 😱😱😱😱
I loved your video is real real wow now it is the official mascot of ARMY I would like BTS to see your video they would stay as open-mouthed when they see that there is a snake with its BTS logo on its skin 💜

If that isn’t one magnificent serpent !! Spectacular footage. Looking fwd to more of these beautiful reptiles
Glad you enjoyed it! These are amazing snakes!
Are the Rhino and Gaboon related?
They seem so similar in some ways, and yet have a couple of differences. The Gaboon has hones as well, but they are tiny compared to the Rhino's horns.
The colors are different, yet some of the makings and patterns are similar.
They are both 'ambush predators,' where they just pick a spot, sit and wait for lunch to come to them.
They both seem to dwell in similar surroundings, 'on the ground, in the undergrowth, and dead leaves.'
They are almost invisible, if you don't know they're there already!
The Gaboon wins the prize for the longest fangs, but I wonder if the Rhino's aren't a very close second?
They both 'march step,' over the ground, which I think is sorta funny to watch. "Your left, right , left!"
Are the venoms of both snakes similar?
What is "Viviparous?"
WOW! A Hybrid of the two!? 'Gabinos...' I didn't know they were mating!? So I guess, the Gaboons find the long horns of the Rhinos to be "pleasing," to look upon! "Love is in the air!"
That Gabino you show here was just beautiful! What colors!
Yes, Gaboon vipers and Rhinoceros vipers are related, these species are not far away from each other in the evolutionary tree. That is why they can still hybridize, they did not evolve so much apart yet. They have similar venoms, similar ecology. Gaboon viper is more generalist, Rhino vipers like only primary forests. Viviparous means giving birth to offspring, not laying eggs, that is oviparous. Thank you for watching!
Love that your video does not have unnecessary noise. It is enjoyable with natural sounds...
Thank you very much!!!
Army's💜💜 did anyone observe there's a bts logo sign on the snake
Thank you for watching!
Never seen a Gabino before, beautiful
It is amazing snake! Thank you!
This is Bitis rhinoc. not a gabino. There is a Gaboon viper, very similar species minus some of the yellow and purple, and just a bit of different design on the back, doesent have the "butterfly" shape but the rectangles.
There are hybrids done in the captivity between Gaboon and Rhino viper, and they are called "Gabino" as you called it.
But this aint a natural species, its a hybridn done in captivity, same as ligers, mules, etc
@@igorsvacic217 @KayDee was really speaking about gabino because it is shown at the end of this video. And gabinos also occur naturally, we never saw one in captivity, but one in rainforest of Africa! :) B. gabonica and B. nasicornis are evolutionary close enough to produce hybrids and they live in sympatry in many places.
@@LivingZoology Yep, I answered before I saw the end of the video and the part where gabino is shown.
I know they occur naturally also, I cant believe you managed to stumble upon one considering how rare those hybrids are. And on top of that I can see it "took" much more from rhino side of family :) which is even more beautyfull since it has so much of that vibrant yellow.
All sspecimens I saw wer4e NOT EVEN CLOSE in beauty to this specimen. There are quite a few on UA-cam videos, but it seems that somehow Gaboon genes are more dominant and it shows more in those hybrids.
Altrough it would be interesting to know which parent was which species, and if that plays a role, if Gaboon was father or mother and vice versa
@@igorsvacic217 You are right, we incredible lucky, we could not believe it. And also as you say, this individual inherited a lot from rhino viper. It would be super interesting to know if and how it differs when male is Gaboon and opposite!
Your channel is horrendously under-appreciated.
Please keep up the good work!

I saw this snake last January in Kenya near the Kagamega Rainforest. A wonderful, dangerous animal.
I believe the one you saw was the close relative that looks almost the same (bar the green), the Gaboon viper as rhinoceros vipers are found in West and Central Africa.
@@Michaelkaydee It wasn't a Gaboon viper, they have a white head and no two horns.

Though I hate snakes and figure that the only good snake is a dead snake, I still can admire their beauty. All three are beautiful and the Gabino was out right gorgeous.
These are super beautiful snakes! Even though some snakes can be deadly, they are amazing animals which have their role in nature as predators and also prey.
I am much surprised to see this kind of colourful viper snake.it would be dangerous for someone to stepped in as it hidden in the dried leaves. Is it a endangered species?
These colors look like they are very bright, but in fact they are for amazing camouflage in the leaf litter. Yes, Rhinoceros vipers are threatened by habitat loss and collection for pet trade.
Seems to almost crawl across the forest floor like a caterpillar. Stunning.
Yes, they use this style of movement and it is very cool!
Mind blowing extra many fantastic bro

Absolutely one of the most beautiful animals ive seen
Been waiting for this docu 🙂🙂
Great! :)
That caterpillar locomotion is strange to see in a snake! Wonderful footage of the habitat. What a surprise to see the Gabino! Absolutely beautiful viper. I have been concerned that the species might breed the Gaboon or Rhino out of existence. I have read somewhere that there is no evidence yet that this will happen anytime soon as the species in large part is a result of the evolution processes. Hopefully all three will thrive! Great job with the camera!!!
Thank you very much for watching and we are glad that you enjoyed! Gabino is just a hybrid of two closely related species and the hybridization occur quite rarely. There is very little data about the fertility of gabinos in the wild.
I have some questions for you. I've seen a lot of Gabinos on UA-cam. Where do they come from? Are these bred specimens that have been made available to them. I don't like what I'm seeing! Thank you for answering any of my questions.
Very interesting show. Too bad that it cannot be watched Due to that nerve wracking background noise.
Thank you. Those sounds are normal in the rainforest, hornbills and tree hyraxes. You hear them almost each day there.

Ya way to much noise.. mute is advised unless u want a headache. Damn tone it down 80%
You can always put the volume down. Well, rainforest can be a loud place to be, it is full of life.
What fabulous work, guys. Beautiful animals, these are. Are the ‘horns’ on the Gambino stunted in length, compared to its parent Rhinoceros? They appear to be. So beautiful! I really hate the pet trade. These animals are not “pets,” they’re ‘anti pets’ if anything. People think they’re loved by their snakes. Insane. That just gets my dander up. People who say they “love” these animals yet take them from their habitats and keep them in cages and boxes, like so many accessories. Maddening. What a terrible and sad, mean thing to do to something that those kind of people claim they “love.” It’s anything but love. Sorry; I get pretty soapbox about that. Beautiful animals, and I’m glad you found a few. Beautiful filming and use of the natural background, as always. Carry on! 🐍
Thank you so much for watching and thank you for a positive review of our work! Gabino is a hybrid so each gabino has a unique combination of genes from both parental species. We agree that many people just want to have a colorful snake at home, some want to keep venomous snakes because it is thrilling, etc. On the other hand, there are keepers who really have a professional care about their animals and breed them. The important last thing is missing - reintroduction programs which will allow these keepers to do a good thing and bring snakes back to their habitat. It is sad that only export exists and snakes are becoming rare.
sorry guys, but 8 ads in 14 minutes?
that's approx 1 ad every 2 minutes..
thats a reason to unfollow this channel...
i love to support a good channel, but this is ridiculous...😏
We are very sorry about this. In UA-cam Studio you get some ads which are automatically placed and then others, which you can place by yourself. The system tells you that those which are not placed automatically will not be shown to many viewers (not sure what are the factors affecting it except country of the viewer and viewing history, etc.). We very rarely get comments like this and it looks like it is very rare that UA-cam shows all ads. UA-cam is a full-time job for one of us and we are trying to continue doing this job in educating people about reptiles and amphibians. We need to add ads, but of course we don't want to ruin the experience for viewers. Unfortunately, we don't have any sponsors and we have to fund our filming expenses. Bringing new topics, new species and traveling around the world is expensive.
Just a crazy thought, I think this snakes are big caterpillars 😂😂😂 their movements are just awesome. The patterns are so beautiful.
