- Final mission of this campaign. Despite failure in our last mission the diplomats have gone to an agreement. But before they came to a resolution several Silkworm missiles have been launched from China in the direction of our fleet.
At the time we were the closest CAP to the launch site. Our job is to down as many missiles as we can to desaturate the massive attack in hope of the fleet being able to down the remaining missiles coming their way.
Holy hell, that squadron roster sure looks empty...
The the first part of the engagement was pretty hectic, but I was able to use up every Phoenix with a kill. The last part was pretty odd - I had to lure the remaining Silkworms orbiting at angels 60. What was that about?
At 25:40 I called for "Ready 5 Assist", the Carrier replied "No assistance available" but according to debriefing 2 F-14 on Ready 5 duty were launched and got some kills too.
Overall a huge success, mission accomplished, no aircrews lost and fuckton of medals awarded.
Before the next campaign I will have to fly few training missions in Oceana to improve the skill of the new replacement crews though.

I think it was the second or third Norwegian campaign where i had all but a couple other squadron members dead, and had to do the final stage with just me and a couple other Tomcats. This is definitely a challenging, but rewarding, game.
I'd think that only having A/A missions would be super limiting, but the clever branching campaigns, and surprisingly varied missions, kept me coming back for more. This game is a true classic.

Do failed missions still allow you to progress
Yes. Each campaign has a mission tree (similar as in Wing Commander games). Depending on the outcome of the mission your next one will be chosen accordingly. You can loose the campaign and still progress unless your pilot dies.
