You should do a video about American-Israeli ace Rudy Augarten who scored six aerial victories in four different aircraft types in both WWII and Israel's War of Independence. The story of Israel's first ace Modi Alon is just as interesting. He scored five aerial kills in the Avia S-199 before it ultimately claimed his life in a landing accident.

@@showtime112 You have to remember the British and Egyptian interests were aligned at the time and the British would throughout the war support their Arab clients and even had a mutual defense pact with the Egyptians because of the Suez Canal. You allude to the most logical error being an error of intelligence and the Egyptians simply thought the base was a Jewish one due to faulty intelligence. But these British pilots took to the air to defend their base as you would suspect a fighter pilot would desire to do.... and the rest is history.

Maybe it's the beginning of the idea which used the israelien for making their strategy in 1967, during the six days war, destroy all the planes on the soil for paralysing the air support and giva advantage about the number of planes to the Israelien.

@@showtime112 Yes, I agree, It''s true, it's a forgotten conflict but original one. Short, efficient, a military victory indisputable for the coalition (France-England-Israel), but a setback for the old colonial power by the two superpower of the time, USSR and USA. Curiously Egypt stand out from the military defeat, and Israel started a new strategy and improved it for its future territorial defense. The french used the F-84 F Thunderstreak, Dassault Ouragan, Dassault Mystère II and IV maybe the supersonic Super Mystère B2 or Vampire, the English ? I'm not a specialist of their planes, most of them are ugly at this period, except the hawker hunter and the De Havilland Vampire, and there are a lot operations of parachuting realised by transport propeller planes like the C-47. The Israelien, used some military french and english aircraft, I believe, we have to confirm that, but at this time France help them a lot, about the military nuclear research for example until 1967, the six days war when De Gaulle stopped the delivery of the Mirage V ordered in 1965 by Israel because he had afraid of the flare-up of this conflict between the two superpower. Unfortunatly, the majority of these planes don't exist on DCS, and there are not famous, had existed during a short period, quickly replaced by bisonic ones early 60's. So there's a great probability that this conflict stay in the drawers. We have to wait the development of Cold War on DCS, maybe one day it will be possible to achieve a beautiful retrospective.

While attributing exact aircraft providence is difficult because of the swapping of parts, it's likely some of the parts of the Egyptians Spitfire's shot down by the RAF were likely put into service in the Spitfires the IAF used on Jan 7, 1949 that shot down the RAF Spitfires: thus were some of the RAF pilots shot down by the same planes they had previously shot down in 1948? Has an event like that ever happened in the history of aerial warfare? Would the IAF of been able to achieve air dominance against the Egyptian in the war if not for this Egyptian blunder to attack the British airfield? Would the Israeli's of even won the war without the mauling the Egyptian's took here in their error to attack the British airbase and the salvage the Israeli's would claim of plane's and parts from this clash?- As Winston Churchill in opposition to the UK's official refusal at the time to recognize the new Jewish State: "Whether the right hon. Gentleman likes it or not, and whether we like it or not, the coming into being of a Jewish State in Palestine is an event in world history to be viewed in the perspective, not of a generation or a century, but in the perspective of a thousand, two thousand or even three thousand years. That is a standard of temporal values or time values which seems very much out of accord with the perpetual click-clack of our rapidly-changing moods and of the age in which we live."
