Nice open playing with rather sharp and interesting angles.

Max’s take on it which is always dope but completely Jon Christensen all day long. A little dejohnette too but mostly Jon Christensen

Christensen being Norwegian and Clark being from California it’s interesting to think about how their linear styles of playing were happening simultaneously. I’m not sure either were an influence on one another. They were happening somewhat simultaneously. If anything I believe Christensen was playing like that first but Mike Clark never sites Christensen as an influence. Clark usually describes his linear playing as something he came up with on his own, which I completely believe. I guess it’s the tempo and style of linear playing in Max’s video that reminds me more of Christensen on an ECM recording. Anyone not familiar with Jon Christensen can UA-cam “Piscean Dance” by Ralph Towner. That song opens with a linear solo break by Christensen

People think it’s hard playing 280bpm blast beats. And it is, but this is probably more difficult…and sounds like music.
