I think that is Eastern Cutoff, born in the day when the feet had to precede the head over the bar (no "diving"). A scissors-kick, with feet going over first, but the body laid out as flat as may be done whilst the bar is being crossed, thus lowering the centre of mass very considerably by comparison to a simple scissor kick. More efficient than scissors, marginally less efficient than Western Roll, very much less efficient than Straddle.
In my opinion I would rate both Heike Henkel and Kajsa Bergqvist higher. Kajsa with 1 outdoor WC gold, 2 indoor WC gold, 1 outdoor EC gold and 1 indoor. How is Kajsa no.8!? she is the current indoor world record holder and has the fifth best result outdoor only beaten by Stefka, Blanca, Andonova and Chicerova. Please do explain
I would personally put Kajsa Bergkvist 3rd, since she has the 2nd highest jump ever and it's indoor world record standing for 12 years. Only disappointment in her great career is no Olympic gold medal, since she was never in top injury free form. Blasic is 2nd because she jumped also 2.08 but has a slightly better international record
Former wr holders should be in honorable mention : Sara Simeoni and Ulrike Meyfarth. After Meyfarth came Tamara Bykova. Beside Stefka, these three names were familiar to me back in 1980s.
The interesting facet of the technique of most of the world's best female jumpers is that they technically jump similarly to the world's best male high jumpers who use the the fos. fl. technique. Insofar as they do not suffer a massive power leak like nearly all females. Meaning exactly what? With all power sports the athlete attempts to secure a power return as close to the level of power applied. So with high jumping great power is initially applied by running forwards. As the attack foot is stamped down to generate height one tries to use all of the forward energy used in running. Due to the laws of physics that is impossible as some loss of energy is bound to occur. But such must be minimised. This is principally minimised by jumping square to the ground, that is by creating a 90 degree angle as one gains height. Compare say the male record holder Soto.... with the female world record holder Kosto.....and they both do exactly that. They were both incredibly efficient in not losing energy, they both jumped at 90 degrees. Now look at the technique at all of today's female high jumpers: Where they leave the ground with their attack foot is as much as two metres away from where they finally cross the bar! That is they jump along the bar rather that directly over it. Why female high jumpers fail to properly absorb impact force I do not know. It's one of those mystery questions like 'why can't nearly all pentathletes be taught to efficiently throw a javelin?'
Stefka Kostadinova predicted that Maria Lasitskene would be the one to break her 2.09 cm world record which has stood for 32 years. After watching the just-turned-18 Yaroslava Mahuchikh (DOB: 9/17/2001) jump 204 cm to tie Maria last 9/30 to win the 2019 World Championships silver medal (Maria won gold for fewer misses), Stefka may have to reconsider her prediction.
She would never had won had the Russians been allowed to compete. She cleared only 197 cm to win. All three Russians would have jumped over 2,00 metres, especially Kuchina.
@@frankiehunter. And? Is it her fault? The results are there. Period. If Rafa Nadal, Nole Djokovic and Roger Federer doesn't play a Roland Garros Slam because they were injured, not allowed or whatever, does it make less important? The winner will be "less winner" because of that?
Watch out for 18-year-old Ukrainian phenom Yaroslava Mahuchikh who jumped 204 cm to tie Lasitskene at Doha to win the 2019 World Championships silver medal (Maria won gold for fewer misses).
Interesting video. Most of the "Girls" I met when I was part of an organisation in Germany, that organized international competitions with men and women in that sports (indoor events with music). But that of course was after Yolanda Balas etc. It might be a bit delicate to say. But she, Yolanda Balas, was under discussion already then, when she still was activ. It was about her gender, like some others, sprinter Eva Klobukowska from Poland and the Press sisters. Antonin Pauvarel, please dont take it wrong. Just to remember those old times back then.
What is not shown here, and what preceded Fosbury was the western roll. The earlier form (seen here) was called the straddle. In my high school jumping days we all did the western roll. This was a few years before Fosbury came along.
Balas is on a different league, she basically jumped like it was hurdles for God's sake!!!! Imagine what her records would be if she was jumping using the fosbury flop technique!!!!!!!
35 years since Stefka's world record. It seems like it was yesterday. No need for rankings. Stefka is on top and everything else doesn't matter. Cheers to the anniversary.
In what sense do you think Iolanda Balaș was the best ever not using the Fosbury flop? There are jumpers not using Fosbury flop technique whose PB is better than Balaș' one. For instance, Olympic champion Rosemarie Ackermann who used straddling technique. Of course, it's possible to argue Balaș was the best non-flopper ever as she was so devastatingly dominant during her career. But, rated by that criterion, she might be the best one of all, not just of non-floppers.
I believe that Kajsa Bergqvist should be in the top 5 - adding NINE national titles (8 outdoor, 1 indoor),, and hadn't it been for tearing her achilles tendon just before the 2004 Olympics...

Niki Bakogianni at 1,70m jumped 2,03m and won silver at the Olympics behind Konstantinova! This is the world record for height difference.
Di Martino : 1.69 , 2,04 indoor
You just can’t forget Meyfarth and Ackermann
Blanka Vlasic is perfection.
I don't like her.
@@c.h.1066 - Different strokes for different folks.
Heike Henkel should be higher as number 4 in my opinion.
Meyfarth, Simeoni, Bykova is missing and perhaps also Ackerman and Babakova
What about Stefka Kostadinova?
I would personally put Kajsa Bergkvist 3rd, since she has the 2nd highest jump ever and it's indoor world record standing for 12 years. Only disappointment in her great career is no Olympic gold medal, since she was never in top injury free form. Blasic is 2nd because she jumped also 2.08 but has a slightly better international record
The sass at @6:48 is great
Stefka Kostadinova 2.09 unbeaten since 1987
Former wr holders should be in honorable mention : Sara Simeoni and Ulrike Meyfarth. After Meyfarth came Tamara Bykova. Beside Stefka, these three names were familiar to me back in 1980s.
Rosemarie Ackermann was the best non flopper with a best of 2.01m and Olympic champion in 1976 using the straddle.
I thought Debbie Brill won in '76?
No, she won 1979 World Cup (that was held in Montreal, too).
Great soundtrack..
I love the dancing one. So beautiful.
Now look at the technique at all of today's female high jumpers:
Where they leave the ground with their attack foot is as much as two metres away from where they finally cross the bar!
Mahuchikh now 2.06m as a 19 years old teenager.
kostadinova and heike heinkel is the best high jumpers in all the times .... its my openion i respect your favorit...
Best techniques of all of them, and fitness...they both looked so strong, both cleared by a mile. Slesarenko would be my other technical choice.
Not a debate. Either someone jumped higher or lower. Pretty cut and dry.
Ruth Beitia, 1 Olympic Gold, 2 Diamond League, 3 European Outdoors Championship, 1 Indoors and 43 National Spanish Championship
Kajsa jumps the most beutifull and she tryed at world record hights!
Yeah! Kajsa shares the second best of all time with 2.08. I would have ranked her third or fourth.
Going to have to put in Maria Lasitskene now :)
This video was made in 2014. Not many people knew Mariya Lasitskene back then.
DeanMk1 True :) Definitely the best atm, with 2:06
Watch out for 18-year-old Ukrainian phenom Yaroslava Mahuchikh who jumped 204 cm to tie Lasitskene at Doha to win the 2019 World Championships silver medal (Maria won gold for fewer misses).
very good.
I am soo crazy about these jumpers!!
Fantastic women, poetry in motion.
Well considering she got married and had a child I don't think there's much doubt about gender. Get a grip.
How are the songs of the video called?
What is not shown here, and what preceded Fosbury was the western roll. The earlier form (seen here) was called the straddle. In my high school jumping days we all did the western roll. This was a few years before Fosbury came along.
6:12 she looks like a greek god XD
I know 4ighr
Actually.. godess
@@retrogaminga1072 Actually.. goddess
Yes. Incredible
Goddess!!!
Mariya Lasitskene should be in any top ten list IMO.
I would include Ulrike Meyfarth too and Ruth Beytia. A legend in the making at only 19 and already Olympic medalist is Yaroslava Mahuchikh)).
Balas is on a different league, she basically jumped like it was hurdles for God's sake!!!! Imagine what her records would be if she was jumping using the fosbury flop technique!!!!!!!
@ 4:40 Yelena looked like the shortest of these top 10 high jumpers but her technique and jumping strength is just out of this world!
Ulrike Meyfarth, Olympic Gold Medalist in 1972 and 1984
Kajsa Bergqvist should be higher on the list!
Yes. Indoor WR..
out of ranking but I loved Galina Astafei y Megimi Sato.
first time I heard the name Hellbaut, "what? elbow!?"
35 years since Stefka's world record. It seems like it was yesterday. No need for rankings. Stefka is on top and everything else doesn't matter. Cheers to the anniversary.
Wow nice
In what sense do you think Iolanda Balaș was the best ever not using the Fosbury flop? There are jumpers not using Fosbury flop technique whose PB is better than Balaș' one. For instance, Olympic champion Rosemarie Ackermann who used straddling technique. Of course, it's possible to argue Balaș was the best non-flopper ever as she was so devastatingly dominant during her career. But, rated by that criterion, she might be the best one of all, not just of non-floppers.
You forgot Sara Simeoni, and Antonietta di Martino (height 1.69 - jumped 2.03, the biggest difference ever jumped)
Great athletes all of them!!
superbe
All bone and muscle , no grease and no sweat.
I love them all.
I believe that Kajsa Bergqvist should be in the top 5 - adding NINE national titles (8 outdoor, 1 indoor),, and hadn't it been for tearing her achilles tendon just before the 2004 Olympics...
whats the song name?
She still holds the WR for 34 yrs now! Amazing! Is that a Guiness book of records ?
WR on 800 m (W) is from 1983 (Jarmila Kratochvilova - TCH, Czechoslovakia). This one is the oldest.
Do you think Jarmila was using peds?@@aleksandaraleksovski2423
Ackermann should be on the list. She was the first to jump 2 meters
Where were Ulrika Meifahrt, Rosemary Ackermann (straddle), Sara Simeoni, Tamara Bykova (Russia), Lyudmila Andonova (Bulgaria)? You forgot their?
Andonova is at the beginning of the video.
They are 8 only over 2,06, 23 jumps, 10 for Stefka and at that time Blanka started to walk and Mariya LASITSKENE was'nt a project...now she is the only active one at 2,06...Yaroslava MAHUCHIKH baby of 21 century promisses...
Where are Ulrike Mayfarth 2 times Olympic gold medallist in 1972 with 16 and 8years later with 24 she belongs to the top 5 also missing Italiens Sahra Simioni
Great video! One thing about the language though. The "two times" should be at the end of the sentence. Example: "she has won the Olympics two times".
Thanks a lot for your comment, it helps me improve my English !
Twice is even better.
the video isnt good. plus mistake
My ranking: 1. Stefka Kostadinova 2. Yolanda Balas 3. Ulrike Meyfarth 4. Sara Simeoni 5. Rosemarie Ackermann 6. Heike Henkel 7. Tia Hellebaut 8. Blanka Vlasic 9 Hestrie Cloete 10. Kajsa Berqvist
Haha Blanka Vlasic with 2.08 on 8.place ?
@@macedonianchristian7063 no olympic gold
