    I'm in uk and I was subjecting my parents the the sort of stuff I like to watch on utube tonight, my Father who enjoys predominantly pop/rock etc, sat listening to you with a smile and a tapping toe.
    There is a glorious video of you and your pal flat footing, they absolutely loved it. X
    I played a little on my banjo for them to hear, (wooooooo)
    I've loved playing along with you and have learned enough to make them strangely proud.
    They said "it" nearly sounds/looks like Irish dancing.
    Just need to force them to flat foot and my life is complete. Lol

    Do you use a thicker gauge string set? I like the sound of em

      I am using Aquila Nylgut 6B in this video. I now use custom sets from La Bella with a wound nylon 4th. LA Bella makes better strings.

      My ggggg-grandfather, Adoniron Hicks, was apparently driven out of Yorkshire in the mid 1700s. He became an itinerant Baptist preacher on the American frontier (Crawford County, Pennsylvania).

      @@CliftonHicksbanjo good afternoon Clifton, I thought I'd point something out maybe you can fix it, when you're speaking on the videos all the words cover up your hand and the head of the banjo but if you be real quiet for about 30 seconds to a minute all the words will have been gone while you are physically going through the finger motions slowly so people can see what's going on exactly and if it showed it up close that would be really great see the problem is if you're talking constantly and not giving no more than a break of 10 seconds the words are always on the screen covering up the banjo on the head in your hand on the left side of my screen. The only time I get anything out of the lessons that way no matter who's doing them, it's when they don't talk for a little bit and they just go through the motion slowly and do it and do it and do it and do it and do it and or pick pick you know go through the motions with the right hand right hand in the right fingers. I don't know I just thought I'd point that out I'm sure other people have the same thoughts as I have I don't know I don't know anything I just thought I'd tell you about that it would help me I'm sure it would help other people all right thank you you have a good afternoon you're doing a good job

    Are you using heavier gauge strings to tune your banjo lower so often.

    • @CliftonHicksbanjo
      @CliftonHicksbanjo  4 роки тому +3

      Yes. I use Aquila Nylgut strings. These are not the best strings, but they are heavy and thus respond better (and buzz less) at older, lower tunings.

    Just finding your lessons so rad! Would love a Doc Watson version of Tom Dooley , started trying to arrange on my own through different simple variations But I’m not skillfully there yet. Good stuff !

    • @CliftonHicksbanjo
      @CliftonHicksbanjo  4 роки тому +3

      Thanks. Tom Dooley is already on the list; will put a star next to it and get on that ASAP. It is still a very popular song in the North Carolina old-time music scene, so I played it frequently when I lived there. Of course I probably haven't played it in several years.
