I just bought a used Stihl extended hedge trimmer and first time running it, it did this exact thing. I took it apart and greased it and it worked like a charm! Thanks a bunch.
Just greased my stihl fs 56 rc, no more noise, this model is T20, I am used 2" deck screw bit, of course have to grind it the hex shape to tiny round. Thank for your help!
Fantastic video , that issue was on both my FS40 and FS50c and was looking at new clutch/housing for both, for an hour of time and 10p worth of grease , sorted …..thank you
Had a flood damaged fs55, the squeal can come from a pitted drum (the clutch caught swollen rust high points). You can couple the drum to a drill press and use it as a lathe to sand and polish the rust off.
I could barely start a trimmer before watching this video, was describing the problem using words like 'thingamajig', now I'm covered in grease and got this machine fixed like it's new again, thanks dude!
Bro, thanks for the video. I was looking for how to take off the clutch housing. The T27 was the answer, like what you said I have to grinder my original sparkplug tool also to make it fit in that small hole. The sparkplug tool has two functions on one side the sparkplug tool and the other side the T27. Thanks a million. 👍
the play in the clutch housing is by design, the centrifugal force from the long spinning shaft will always be slightly untrue, the movement allows a softer and smoother connection, if it was too rigid, it would force the path and create a resonance vibration leading to premature wear on the entire driveline, this way the cheap $40 part takes all the abuse and any handy homeowner should be able to swap it out in no time
Would of been great to hear the noise it was making before the fix. I may have this issue on a new one. I’ve taken it back to the dealer and it would not re-create the sound that I heard. Although it did when I brought it in. They started it up a few days later and it did not make the sound.
Dude-you saved me!! It was driving me crazy trying to figure out if the clutch was supposed to have any play.. New FS38, and runs great, but at idle sometimes i could hear a slight clink so I shut it of and when I shook it hard I could hear the clutch clinking. I thought the clutch was coming loose.. At this point I am guessing thats normal?? Thx
Hi there, great video this is definitely helping me out with my strimmer. I live in the UK and am unable to get the Echo red lubricant, could you recommend an alternative that is available in the UK. Once again, great vid, super helpful. Thanks Mike.
Yesterday I was given a Gravely WAW 1034 that had the biggest mouse/chipmunk 🐿️ community I've ever seen. It was nuts! Today after going through the carb, cleaning the tank and fixing the gnawed wires I got to enjoy the new blades installed a long time ago. I had no idea Ariens and Gravely are basically the same company but the hardware and stickers gave it away. My carb rebuild actually worked for once.
Liked this vid and how you (painlessly + tool mod) took off the outer clutch. Thought. (Laugh if you want). Might a small pointed grease gun (bicycle or chainsaw bar) be able to shoot a small spot of grease into the hole where you put the T27 tip bar to unscrew the clutch bell and lube the bushing? Problem would be unable to see how much grease and if the bushing was under or over lubed. 😇🧐

Looks like a simple try and fix thing. Thanks for insider knowledge 👍🏾 👊🏾🇺🇲

5/22/23 GREAT VIDEO! Thank you for the help. My FS55RC was a T25 rather than T27 and a screw driver style did the trick.
Got to love those easy repairs. Great job
My 2008 fs55r wasn’t squealing, but it was rattling at low acceleration. But it was the same fix. Thanks, good video.
Thanks for another great tip. You have taught me a lot about Stihl equipment.

Thanks for making this video. I just did this to my trimmer. It worked great.

So I replaced mine on FS70. Actually replaced several and I’ve NEVER got it right!! It always rattles and makes noise when I’m done
Thanks bud
love your content- it helps me out heaps. One question tho- is an 'uugh' like a quarter of an 'ugga dugga'?
Great tip as always Jeremy!!
Bonjour , pour une debroussailleuse fs 55 la flèche du piston doit s’orienter du côté d’échappement ? Merci
I'm gettin' an education from you. Thanks.

I always used ATF on the old B&S clutches , only thing that stayed any length of time . Did they put a different torx screw in the fs56rc stihl ?
Same size
I have some all purpose "LM" bearing grease and CV grease? Which would be good or need thinner?
Mines doing that ill try that let u know its new drum and clutch

Kawasaki brushcutters are way more easier to work on
Gracias, la solución a mi problema
Am I to assume it solved the squealing problem?
Yes it will fix it but every year needs to be done again 😢😢😢
Does the fs38 do this too?
Yes
Yep, normal stuff!
Sorry but I never get notifications anymore ?? 4-1-2024
