I played this game 1 time, and i was instantly sold. I enjoyed it so much that i straight away ordered it. Solid, clean, easy to pick up, and a very nice theme. I love absolutely love it.
Man. Not sure I could agree with the “totally abstracted” statements any less. Wolves are nomadic. That mechanism seems like it’s meant to convey that you can’t just stay in one place. I’d say the theme really seems to come across.
I also don't get why the action/turn system has to tie into the theme? It never does? In what game does "You get 2 action points per turn" or "You sit idle while other businesses work, but then you get to build, hire, and sell but only specifically in that order" ever make more sense? Ive never heard of a game where the action/turn system itself has ever made sense within the theme.
Agreed, the tile flipping to me is fresh and fun and no other game I have played does that. The actual game play is very thematic and wolfy and I really enjoy it!
I only wish the larger prey needed more wolves and/or the bunnies less and were scored accordingly. But i get it that you need more than 1 wolf for a bunny cuz theyre so quick.
I have to say, most of the stuff that u described as themeless actually makes thematic sense to me. Like, u flip tiles pf the areas u went through because it's hard to do much in the same type of area, ur wolves r just tired of wondering in the forest. U can't get a 2nd animal of the same type because the animals u hunted already become wary of u. And different regions score at different times because of animal migrations that change the appeal of certain locations. I wish more reviewers (and boardgamers in general) saw the theme in various game mechanisms the way I do. Because if u do, then there's no themeless games basically.
Thanks for the explanation I wasn't entirely sure how to play this game from the directions, but this made it sound way simpler than what the book made it sound. And I'm more confident about trying, since I got this as a gift from a family member.
I totally disagree the 0% themeless comment and i feel like this game is getting over annalysed for the game that it is. This is not a heavy Stefan Feld game so i feel like it is reviewed like. Also so steange that Chris said 0% theme but liked it more because of the theme.
i think you are confused with theme and thematic mechanic. they like the theme (wolves), but the action they do (flipping location tile to do certain action), the scoring (cant hunt the same animal) does not serve the theme and is there just to be a game.
@@hamakakun hunting the same animal would break the game as it is something that happens after an action so not moving with a wolf would deplete the food in an area. It is a game first of all. Most games are designed like that. Too bad that some ganes get a much garder judgement on that front then others. This game is 2/3 mechanics and 1/3 theme. I played my second game with 5 people. 3 of them never played it and liked it and got the mechanics. This game has that puzzle aspect that you are doing but also focussing on others and what they are doing. I give this an 8.
I really appreciated the analysis and explanations. Great commentary!... but honestly guys, 7 should be a banned score. 7 has always been this kind of very safe and inoffensive review score that doesn't really mean much... It basically translates to: "Extremely generic but well-made game that we don't want to be too harsh on." ... Reviews would be far more interesting and indicative of the reviewer's true opinion if 7 was banned. Like if you HAD to give this game either a 6 or an 8, which one would it be? That's what I would like to know.
They aren’t afraid to give bad scores, just watch the Jurassic Park legacy game review. 7 seems like a “meh” review score, and their are plenty of “meh” games out there
Not quite on the level of "The Devil Wears Vlaada" but pretty good. Love the theme and look of this game, but no solo mode means a pass. Maybe I'll get the chance to play it someday.
The concept of an "Alpha Wolf" is an outdated and inaccurate depiction of wolf packs. The researcher who came up with the theory witnessed one wolf whom the other wolves would follow. He later came to find that the reason the other wolves were following that "Alpha Wolf" was because that was their parent, not the strongest or most vicious. Neat idea for a game concept, but boo to the continuation of an incorrect scientific theory.
I don’t really care at all. It’s a method of saying the “top dog” I don’t think a theory that technically isn’t true has any reason to be a con for a board game.
I like that the dice tower is doing more reviews lately but I hate the funny comments they added to the UA-cam titles. Seems like we are a step away from red arrows and circles in the thumbnails
Sorry Dice Tower, your reviews are starting to get really boring and predictable. The more popular the company that produced the game, the better the review. If you want to know how to do an honest review, go to "board game bullocks" and watch his Oathsworn review. He is not afraid to give and honest review to a big name publisher. You should try that Dice Tower.
I love that people think I only negative reviews are honest reviews. Why is honesty conflated with negativity? I would say the Dice tower as a whole is well balanced. Ive seen them give scores that are lower than other peoples on "big games" and high ones on low games. Plus you have a variety of people doing the reviews which helps. Anyone can be edgy and give a low score for attention.
Also Mr. Bullocks didn't explain the game or system correctly. He misinformed the audience in the name of entertainment or just didn't like the game. It's ok, he isn't wrong, but he did misinform his audience on that particular review.
Haven't watched the video yet, but you get an instant thumbs-up for the incredible pun.
I came to say the same thing!
yes haha
Yes! I love the punny titles. Between this and "the devil wears Vlaada", the puns have been great lately!
Was about to post that. Whose was it?
I only noticed the pun when I read it out loud.
I love it how they didn't cut the whole howling part 🤣🤣🤣
'I don't know exactly how wolves work' - Quote of the day.
"Lycan Subscribe"? That pun gave me paws.
"Lycan subscribe". Definitely up there with "The Devil wears Vlaada". Did Mike come up with this one too?
Lol I thought Lycan was a person.
it made me chuckle for sure, but I figured it was Chris' doing
I played this game 1 time, and i was instantly sold. I enjoyed it so much that i straight away ordered it. Solid, clean, easy to pick up, and a very nice theme. I love absolutely love it.
My jaw dropped when i heard about this game just now. Artwork looks amazing!

Did someone forget to edit the video lol. This was great
Fantastic pun and, even if unintentional, loved the outtake left in the middle.
Wow pretty cool to see the behind the scenes with this edit ! Makes us realise the work and seriousness you put into all of those reviews
I only wish the larger prey needed more wolves and/or the bunnies less and were scored accordingly. But i get it that you need more than 1 wolf for a bunny cuz theyre so quick.
Maybe that can happen in future expansions!
"Lycan Subscribe!" - By all the Elder Gods above and below, I love you.

I don't know if the editing is a mistake or meant to be humorous, but it certainly was!
outtakes left in! love it!
I'm here for the puns!

I don’t know what we did to deserve the naked aggression of that video title.
The tile flipping action selection reminds me of a small game from last year called Curators.
I am wondering who in the studio is REALLY proud of the title of this video.
Gotta be Mike or Chris
The cover art is simply amazing!!!
This reminds me of this PC game I liked when I was a kid back in the 90s; this simulation game where you lead a wolf pack.
This game sounds a WHOLE LOT like ROAR. Which is a fun game. Thoughts? If you've played both can you compare?
The colors of the meeples vs the background looks like a real clarity problem to me. Those pastel colors just blend into the map too easily.

Can't tell if it was on purpose but I enjoyed leaving the outtake in :)
Wolves: the box cover with a wolf eye that looks like a DUCK 🦆
Haha.... didn't see it till now. Fantastic
@@e-manr.486 you’ll never unsee it now. LOL
It's the revenge for every duck having a dog's face on it's bill

Zee says “hey this isn’t how wolves act in real life!”
Appreciate the look behind the curtain
Zee's incredulous head shake at the end was a great way to end the video ha
Anyone have this and the other wolf game, The Alpha? Which one is better?
So Wendy, you were saying you couldn't wear wolves?
Props to the amusing editing on this video!
Nice pun!
Whoever is making these titles is having too much fun
These titles just keep getting better! My word 🤣
why didn't you call the calendar a "howlendar"?
WELCOME TO THE PACK AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Oh it took me so long to understand the title of this video 🤣
Was the intro meant to be repeated after the overview?
Another great outtake moment for the end of the year video.
Brilliant Thumbnail Heading, well done!
Great video, love the howling!
Visited and liked for the clever video title.
The central chasm doesn’t count as a water source
Sometimes I look at the cover and see something other than an eye.
humans. lovely, lovely humans. thank you for sharing this slight insight with us.

Honestly that misconception is never going to die unfortunately
It's been used so heavily in all sorts of media
Ok, Hoss.
@@WolfanTerror maybe if we keep talking about it! 🤷

Are you saying this as a reason you don’t like the game? Or just complaining that the theme is technically scientifically accurate?
Ok, take my like. I only do this once in a full moon...
Uscirà mai in italiano?
I so wish I could afford more games!!! All the good ones are $50+ lol I'm so broke but I need this lol
It's on BGA now. You can play it there.
The Kingdom Builder Slight (he's not wrong though) ;c
I don't know howl much I can lycan a pun of this magnitud. How woof you like it If all coments were like that?
-1 pun point

CooOOOOOOO kie Crisps!
Howlception
I watched the live. I don't think this one's for my group.. I'd love a theme and a mechanic with crows/wolves
Don’t feel like the guys actually played the game as they just skimmed over the entire review.
Haha, there's literally a video of us playing it live on the channel.
Lets start that half of Essen copies had misprints......
lol what a howl
The title 🤣
Your edited needs more coffee. However, the Lycan Subscribe pun means all is forgiven here
I'm so torn about this pun:
Is it so stupid that I want to punch Chris?
Or is it so brilliant that I want to slap Chris?
Hmmm...
Video got a little too goofy for me with the outtake and howling, but appreciate seeing a review on this game. I think it’s a pass for me.
