    I have used about every method known to man such as epoxy, wood glue and wood dust, super glue, every type of filler such as glitter, stains, wood dust etc. that I could think of. I like a more “natural look” instead of artificial colors and wood shavings. I sometimes use colored super glue on “very fine” cracks. What I have gone to is a 50/50 mix of wood glue and very finely ground coffee grounds. It gives an enhanced more natural look to the crack. I use this on large to very large cracks. I clean out the crack, mix up my concoction and force it down into the crack using a sharp point and pressure. I let it set over night and on large cracks usually have to fill in again as it will shrink. If you have a crack that goes all the way though to the inside of the turning just use tape on the inside to create a dam. When re-turbing use a very sharp tool and go lightly. I have had very good results and comments from customers and it has a nice natural look.

    I’m a woodwork beginner, so forgive my woodworking ignorance when I ask for advice on filling large gaps in the wooden floor of my shed. When it was originally constructed (not by me), the shed was not properly supported under the flooring. Over time this has caused warping of the 0.5” chipboard flooring! As a consequence there are: bumpy floor panels, soft spots that have to be walked around - and worst of all - caused the whole shed to slightly lean, creating door misalignment! Over the past few weeks I’ve: replaced lots of the external panelling; improved interior wall strength by adding insulation and a second wooden layer and re-felted the roof. However the main job Ive been working on is replacing the flooring panel by panel (so that the whole shed does not collapse while I’m strengthening it). I’ve done this by improving the base underneath the flooring by building a brick, breeze-block and wooden support under each panel, then removed the old chipboard flooring and replaced with 1.5” solid treated wood panels. It’s not pretty, but a lot stronger. However as much as I’ve tried to marry-up each panel, as expected I’ve created gaps between them. Mostly the gap is 2 or 3mm, which I’ve filled with basic wood glue. But there are areas where the gap is as much as 5 or 6mm and of course 1.5” deep. How can I fill these gaps effectively without having to uproot an otherwise reasonably- fit panel? Sorry for the essay, only any advice on the work I’m attempting to carry out would be hugely appreciated. Thank you very much. A.T. (UK).

    Thank you for this video! I repaired a dresser which was cracking for the cost of the glue and baking soda! It repaired the areas perfectly. More importantly, the glue did not disturb the wood colors at all, so no painting will be necessary! Awesome fix!

    I'm in the home stretch of a project and need help! We're building a bookcase for our movie collection. The main frame is Pine, already stained with a water base stain. We decided to go without the wood conditioner first so that we could keep some of the character in the wood (guy at Home Depot said it's one of his favorite ways to do it) I love it, looks great but now there are a couple of very thin cracks that have appeared while it's been drying and waiting for me to finish it. I'm not sure what to do about it. It's already stained but hasn't been finished yet and I can't seem to figure out the best way to proceed. Do I fill it? Do I finish it and embrace the wood in all it's imperfections? (They're the side pieces) Advice is much appreciated!

    Nice tip you give here sir.... I would like you to give me some advise regarding a crack on the neck of an electric guitar, the crack is thin and tight, so I'm wondering what should the approach be since it seems I can't fill it with some glue unless there's a sharp needle I can use to fill it. The neck of the guitar holds some preassure from the trust rod and strings, what type of glue is good for wood and good enough to sustain preasure. thanks a lot sir.

    I've found a solution similar to this for a surface to be stained. I layer in prestained sawdust and superglue alternately. I'm not convinced a superglued surface would take stain after the fact. When prestaining the sawdust, though, maybe use more dilute stain. The sawdust darkens much quicker than whatever board it came from.

    This is fine for painting, but how would you fill a small defect for something you plan on spray staining?

    • @Wwgoa
      @Wwgoa  8 років тому +10

      +AmericanBulldogRocky For a stained or clear finish you can follow the same procedure, but use sanding dust as a filler rather than baking soda. Generally I will hand sand with 220 grit sandpaper over the defect, filling the void with sanding dust, then soak it with CA glue, and then immediately sand over the top of the CA glue. Repeat this as needed until the void is filled flush to the wood's surface.

  • @Wwgoa
    @Wwgoa  13 років тому +3

    This approach isn't better than commercial wood filler, just an alternative. It does dry very hard and, properly sanded, will be invisible under paint.

    Hi, I hope someone can help me. I am using cheap plywood (mistake I shall never make again) and its top layer cracked. I tried putting everything inside, Plasolux glazing putty, boral filling powder (you mix it with water) polytuff, but everytime the wood bends slightly, the crack reappears. I tried putting masking tape over it and then applying putty, but now the tape seems to have air inside it and is causing problems. How do I get rid of it? I think if I use this method, again it will just crack once the wood bends.

    Nice repair. What would you have done for a seating bench surface that has a similar hairline crack in a gel stained red oak mud room bench? In my case, I can't apply wood glue and clamps because there is no way I can install clamps on the bench to close the gap, and the top is not removable without major deconstruction. The crack is about .035" wide at max and is about 24" long.

    • @Wwgoa
      @Wwgoa  3 роки тому

      If you're not able to repair it, then you probably just want to mask it with some colored wood putty. Something like this: amzn.to/2NerofY . Be sure to choose the color that most closely matches the piece.

      @@Wwgoa ok thanks. I was going to fill the deepest spots with baking soda and CA glue, then just top off with the putty you mentioned to flatten it out. I still have the GF oil gel stain I originally used, so I hope that will help color match too. I'll use tape to mask off the area so I don't mess up my finished surface. I made a mistake by gluing red oak to plywood.

    I have a wooden tray--I LOVE this tray--I moved, unpacked it, and it seemed to have cracked all the way through except to the edges so it didn't bust in half. The crack is long but not wide. Stretches all the way through the middle. I have no bottom to the crack I can see through it. How could I get baking soda to sit in that crack without going through the bottom? The wood is a dark wood not sure the name of the wood though. Its real dark though. I really need to fix this crack to prevent it from busting and also to keep liquids from seeping through the tray since that is its purpose if anything spills it spills on the tray and does not end up on the bed or the floor.

    • @REDmgfx
      @REDmgfx 7 років тому

      Consider using epoxy as it's thicker and won't drip through like CA will. If you're set on using liquid glue, you may be able to lay a strip of tape (painters tape or something non-abrasive to the wood) to the bottom. Fill the crack and seal it, then remove the tape. It may not look perfect on the side you taped but you can probably re-fill and sand that side afterwards.

      Acord1213, It sounds likely that the wood was not done drying. I would suggest letting sit for a few weeks to let it stabilize. Then patch with filler such as Durham Rock Putty (www.waterputty.com/) and add a coat of primer, then paint.

      - mix PVA glue with fine sanding dust (ideally from 150 grit or finer)- use a putty knife to mix thoroghly- try to get it to about the consistency of toothpaste- press it into the crack- use the putty knife to scrape it smooth- let it set up for an hour or so, then sand to finish

    • @Wwgoa

      Hi, Jim. In that case I'd suggest putting cyanoacrylate (super glue) into the crack, and sanding with 150 grit to produce dust that will be absorbed by the CA glue. Repeat this process until the crack is filled. If the crack is too large for this process, then make a batch of quick setting epoxy, and mix it with sanding dust from the same species until it becomes thick and pasty, then press it into the crack and sand it flush after it sets up.

    Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out.
    Look for signs that you are saved. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!!!!!
