      Thank you, hopefully not too much envy ! I love watching videos showing collections as well etc and they are great chilly winter viewing videos as well. Still got a number of more shelves to do

    Happy memories of Forbidden Planet on Denmark Street and Forbidden Planet 2 around the corner that specialised in Movie memorabilia. Thanks for the video.

      Yes, they had the FP 2 around the corner and I used to visit that as well and then they moved the whole store to New Oxford Street before moving to their current location. I always enjoyed my Saturday trips to FP in Denmark St while I was studying and working in London, it was easy to travel down on the tube and pop in and pick up piles of great comics and fanzines, I did buy some SF books but generally I always bought secondhand in Fantasy Centre etc. Wish I had taken a photo or two of the FP 2 as well as the other FP, don't think I ever did. Same with a number of shops, they are suddenly gone and arrgh, no photos (not such an issue now where everyone has a mobile and zillions of photos of those shops are taken)

    I remember that original FP site well, plus the one round the corner they moved to. There was also a second hand sci-fi book and collectable store in the alley way round the corner.

      Yes, recall another comic shop just around the corner. I always also enjoyed Comic Showcase when it was near Neals Yard and then when they moved to Charing Cross Rd. The original FP was never super busy (as I recall, perhaps I just visited at those times)

      I have that one, read the JH stories a while ago but the omnibus is still sitting there waiting to be read, and you have now reminded me that I haven't done a book shelf of all my omnis (I have some piled in between books on photos etc).

    Good deal on WW, mine cost me £45-50 on eBay iirc. Given it's reputation I was expecting to hate it, but ended up enjoying the change of pace.Worth it, if only for the funky 60s spy fashion. As you asked, just ordered Justice League International omni vol1, 80-90s era is my sweet spot so hopefully I'll like it.

      I did enjoy those JLA Internationals, very different from the JLA Silver age ones. Mainly picked up in bargain bins etc as I never collected them as my main purchases at the time. Yes, the WW was quite a change and I enjoyed some of the issues I have had, will look forward to reading the whole thing in order. The water damage is only a minor issue and only in some parts so happy with that sort of book for £5, it was priced at £40 for the estate sale. Most of the books related to that seem to have now finally gone, a few left (still some good ones though but as mentioned, there is a limit to what I can carry home), I was thinking about buying it for a while and probably at around the £50 mark also

    I think I’ll pay visit to FP and Gosh It’s been a long time

      I still like to pop into FP and Gosh fairly often, I prefer Gosh to FP any day but there is always something to find. I really should make more of an effort to get out to some of the Camden etc comic stores. There is also a number of stores I have never visited, one in Croydon I keep promising myself to visit

    Nice books, great buys, its about 8 years since I have been in FP in London , just dont get down to the smoke anymore of course the pandemic has probs extended that time , was in London last time in 21 but that was purely to go to Wembley to watch Blackpool in a play off final, I was in FP in the Manchester about four months ago dident buy anything, everything seemed at the top of the price range and these days I dont seem to buy anything if I know its cheaper online, I dont mind paying a small premium to support a shop but alot of the time now the difference in prices seem to be quite significant .

      I don't mind supporting GOSH but I am not the biggest fan of Forbidden Planet, I don't know why, I guess because I have happy memories of it in Denmark St (when it was always empty) and now it is a megastore and the stock does often seem very expensive. Picked up (and put back) a number of omnis and they were all about 120 quid, the artist editions are £160 or so. They also haven't got any back issues, GOSH often has a lot of quirky back issues such as the Wonder Stories Mag from 1930 etc, not the sort of mag you will ever see in FP. Everything does seem to be top end in FP.
      Manga section is getting bigger and bigger it seems and they are not cheap either. I used to buy loads and loads of manga at various Japanese stores around London and you could get these massive 1000+ weekly phone directories for next to nothing (generally with the weirdest of coloured inks)
      The train service from Maidstone to London has improved dramatically with the Charing Cross service, that just makes it so easy to think of Gosh now as my local comic shop (no longer have to jump on the tube or bus).
      I was pleased with today's books, really enjoying the POTA tale. Regret not buying the water damaged House of Mystery vol 2 bronze, but it was hefty - sometimes you just can't get everything !

      @@AndrewBuckleBookReviews Yeah the FP's just seem to be set up as tourist attractions now more than anything.

      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Рік тому +1

      @@captain_uk Ha, yes, I think that is the case. Guess it rakes in the cash but I just don't like the feel of the store in the way that I used to, it does feel like a big Virgin Megastore / Borders etc. I prefer the GOSH as a smaller shop, people chat and talk about books and films (though I always end up halfway in the middle of conversations about this and that series). I assume they have the FP store on the tourist bus route perhaps ?? I don't want comic shops to be cliquey (I've been in ones where everyone turns and stares at you as you walk in and feels like the Invasion of the Bodysnatchers - a traveller that has entered our domain) but it is nice when the store gives a good feeling and you feel positive about the place

    • @captain_uk
      @captain_uk Рік тому +1

      @@AndrewBuckleBookReviews Yes I know that FP is in the Japanese and American tourist guides, yes I too have walked into comic shops when I have felt like the stranger in town walking in the saloon on quite a few occasions over the years, why alot of stores owners and regulars cant be more welcoming I dont know .

      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Рік тому +1

      @@captain_uk I've been in quite a few comic shops where everyone is huddled in a corner nattering and really not interested in the customer, it does make you wonder if they sell anything but I guess everyone buys them on pre-order. Doesn't surprise me about FP - good on them, they are clearly doing well as there is always a queue, sometimes with a long wait. It is a good position, much better than their old Denmark St which was not on the tourist trail, more for musicians though I wonder how long that will last, does seem to be going through more and more re-developments there

      Sorry, they are a great series of books and I love seeing these in a totally different way to the films. Just wish there were more newspaper strip books like that in the UK. There have been 100s of great strips, now impossible to see.

    Do you want to know why marvel and dc dont put out all that stuff we want? NOONES buying it. I am not joking around, i just looked at the year graphic novel sale list, its pathetic. The top sellers were 10-15,000 copies and thats like batman and spiderman where as most graphic novels they released literally sold 5k or less copies... I saw some marvel graphic novels sold LESS than 1k lmao. That is literally pathetic, i dont know how marvel and DC are even alive today, their comics can not be profitable.

      There are lots of videos discussing that sort of issue, it does baffle. I am the worst person to analyse the reasons for their inability to bring out mags that no one wants. I looked at all the latest releases yesterday, nothing jumped out at me. Still recall when you would go and find Amazing Spider-Man and that would be it, perhaps Marvel Team Up, now there seems to be loads and loads of certain titles. Vampirella vs Rd Sonja, Vampirella vs The Terrible Tinkerer etc instead of one truly excellent B&W Vampirella issue ! Perhaps they should just concentrate and make each and every issue the best instead of spreading it over multiple crossovers / events / reboots, sort of follow the ALDI approach and limit the range a bit and make everything you have the best it can be. At the end of the day, good story and good art and something to grab the attention. Anyway, it is all to do with films / Disney etc, Marvel will probably survive. Also, there are zillions of other things to do. As to graphic novels, again, it does baffle when the sales of some of the books are so low
