Okay, story behind the spin jump upgrade. SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom 2003 had that exact mechanic, and when Purple Lamp were developing Rehydrated, they brought in BFBB speedrunner Shift to give them advice on how to make SpongeBob handle. (They had to make Rehydrated essentially from scratch. Anything that wasn’t audio or a model.) Thing is, when they implemented it, they exaggerated it slightly, so it’s more effective than in the original. It also stuck around for Cosmic Shake, the SB game they developed afterwards. I assume since the SB games and Rebrushed are both on Unreal, they decided to just reuse some of SB’s code. That might be why Mickey now has a ground pound too, since that’s in both SB games. TL;DR: Thank SpongeBob for the spin jump stall.
Cynical, since you mentioned it at the start, can you PLEASE make a video on Alice Madness Returns and all the other things the creator American McGee had done? It is one of my favorite video game franchises and I'd love to see you cover it! Thank you and have a nice day!

I've been cautious about this remaster; the original was a favorite of mine and my brother, and I don't particularly trust THQ Nordic as a publisher (and especially not their parent, Embracer). However, it's good to hear that Purple Lamp is doubling down on the mood and atmosphere and keeping the level design and mechanics as faithful as possible. @@thobat14 Yeah I can't remember why exactly whether it was due to 1. Too scary (imagine a kid removing the "bad guys" and Mickey becoming an absolute venom monster) 2. Not enough time / budget 3. This is probably the best example of a remake I've seen in a while. It's faithful, remarkably so, but with QoL improvements that address all the issues in the original, it's faster, smoother, better camera system, more content, there's just so much to adore about the work being done here. (Also I'm sure you weren't trying to make a stab at the 3DS game but I still feel the need to say that that game is absolutely brilliant and still totally worth everyone's time.)
LET’S FUCKING GOOOOOOO !!!! Epic Mickey was technically the first game play through I ever watched on UA-cam (I don’t remember the channel, I do remember it being no commentary tho) cause I didn’t have the game and I was obsessed with the story, because really it starts as a great tragedy that leads to a long, hard earned happy ending. I desperately need more Oswald the Lucky Rabbit content, Warren Spector really did a great job with the first game and it always devastes me that the second game was rushed/had too much executive meddling. If Tetsuya Nomura ever gets permission to use Oswald as a character for the KH series, I’d cry tears of joy. He’d do so well to make me emotional about this rabbit. Thank you for covering this!!!! 🎉❤
I recently went back to the game even before this remake was announced. While i still love it the game had many flaws that i hope are tackled in this remake. The camera was the worse offenders. Next to that was the good/evil trade off or lack of. You could be evil and paint thinner the whole world but you never got anything for it except an empty looking world. Mission structure also didnt see a difference except to good/bad choices and sometimes during mission you didnt even know which side you were taking. I remember a Pete mission who wanted a key from somebody. Since Pete is usually a bad character i didnt get the key for him and it was the bad option. It was just so confusing
The ground pound actually comes in so useful for moments when you need to bounce off something to perform a higher jump (some pins/concept art need you to jump off a bounce pad)! It also (as far as I can tell) negates all fall damage so if you accidentally fall, you can quickly not die from fall damage.
You know whats crazy ive been following you since 2016/2017 since we were all foaming from the mouth for anything KH3. Since then honestly I just enjoy youre take / review on games. Your videos are genuinely hilarious and quality. Keep up the good work my dude.
About a 3rd game: back in the day there was actually a spin-off prototyped called Epic Donald. It would be a Carl Barks (the guy who made a lot of Donald Duck characters like Scrooge) inspired game, where Donald has some sort of time device and would go on all sorts of adventures. You can find footage of the prototype on UA-cam and concept art can also be found on the web I would be hyped if that game actually came into fruition, although a 3rd game wouldnt be any less exciting
If they do remake EM 2, they need to change the whole story, and switch the focus back to Mickey and Oswald. Their relationship was the heart of the 1st game, but they barely spent any time together. The sequel allows for *far* more bonding time as brothers, especially when it comes to Walt Disney. He was their dad, but they had completely different experiences with him. That alone would make Mickey and Oswald see each other in a new light.
Glad to see you so hyped for it as well! I've been waiting for this all year and it clearly has the potential to be one of the best remakes ever created, if the demo and pre release info is anything to go off of!
I've been looking at it for over 20 minutes to figure out what's happening with Mickey's ears when you change the camera from a side profile to a behind position.
I do believe during the DYKG video the main dev interviewed confirmed the concept art was all super nightmarish to show the concept to Disney and then get a realistic idea of how much they could push it. Akso within the last few weeks a concept trailer released for the 2008 build of the game with some story differences, visuals, and altered mechanics

I love their knack for good game design and passion for its fans to stick to the source material so closely. Epic Mickey is my childhood game and I pre-ordered Rebrushed instantly. One problem I had with the demo though was that Mickey felt a little too floaty and Mickey has a dash, but can't dash midair?
THIS is my childhood game! I am so happy they made it better! I would be absolutely happy if they made epic Mickey 2 a remake! As much as I dislike where it went with the story, it still holds a place in my heart, even with all the music.
I think what helps a lot is that a few months of development time went into playing the original game, so that they know what to improve upon, and what to leave alone
It has been a wish of mine and I'm so happy the community is still alive. I hope the dark and gloomy atmosphere will stil be around :) (btw the comparison with Alice madness returns is amazing)
I kind of have to disagree Joint in that the games atmosphere feels a bit weaker in the remake and the designs feel a bit too clean compared to the original, like they toned down the creepyness. The lighting is a bit too glowy and shiny for it to have that dark and creepy feel that the original game has and the enemy designs, again, feel like they’re toned down compared to the original with even small stuff like the stains on the mad doctors coat being removed in the remake which just makes him look clean when the focus of the original was to make everything look gritty, mucky, gloomy, and all around dirty
It still has that creepy vibe in some ways regardless and they definitely improved some aspects, however I do believe limitations on some stuff for the original wii version is probably why it looked liked that from a comparison standpoint and I see what you mean don’t worry but honestly it still looks so good, can’t wait to play it and btw doing well goat?😎✌️
This remake is so fucking charming and true to the original game! God, the concept art is still my favorite thing to watch, I just hope they could’ve implemented darker designs/ideas… just something truer to the original intention. But the fact that we got a remake is already a miracle, we NEED to support this game!
I have cerebral palsy and have the use of only one hand. While I adapt well in life, especially when it comes to things like playing videogames, some Wii games, this game in specific, was a pain to play, as fun as it was, since I had the nun chuck and wii mote all in one hand. I am excited to platinum this game and have a better experience.
I hope it will be a success, i have tried to play the demo on steam deck and it ran very well, only thing i had is that every cutscene the sound didn't match the video, as in they where very obviously not in sync. But am glad it plays at all. The second game in the series from steam doesn't at all run on Linux. So there would be a win there too. Here is hope that they fix the sound and also remake that second game😊
ive played the epic mickey on the wii and loved the game can't wait for the remake to bring back old memories also they need to remake epic mickey 2 as well.
I absolutely can’t wait for this remake! It truly looks amazing overall. It’s about time you finally talked it about it, Cynical! I never thought you would for some reason.
I've been wanting to play the original but seeing that the remake is out in horizon I am definitely going to be picking this one up, let's hope they give the same love for the sequel
Don't hate on the 3DS Power of Illusion game. It was really short. But it felt just like the old side scrolling Mickey games from years ago. I personally loved that one.
i played the demo and man i was so happy; the controls! the camera! you can control the camera!! im positive em2 did so poorly because one game of funky camera was enough.
Sadly the PC version (the demo) suffers from real bad shader compilation stutters typical of Unreal Engine. I hope they can add a precompile shader step on the PC. It's ruining it for me completely.
I'm so hyped to play this game again the Wii version is one of my favorite games on that system also ALICE SHOUT OUT LETS GO!!!!!! (screw you EA for cancelling the 3rd game 😭)
I think its only complaint i have is lack of Dub and copy paste cutscenes, sinds this is supposed to be remake i hope to hear voices in similar way like epic mickey 2 so again having this mumble dissapoint me, and with cutscene i dont mean they look bad because the way they made its make it look nice no matter the time but my issue is how tutorials are literally cut from wii version you can see life bar from wii version on ps5 demo and i find weird place to cut corners
I hope they fixed the quests for epic mickey2...so far it sucks :( oswald is responsible for ALL my in game deaths his AI is the worst. the quest if you fail them or get locked out you wont know andit dosnt tell you you been locked out as you took too long to do them despite they are still active on the quest menu
When I first heard of Epic Mickey I thought it was a Magical Mirror remake 😭 but when I found out it wasn't, I just didn't care 😂 I really missed out ig
They didnt made the biggest change everyfan of the old one wanted, an actual bad/evil path, but I guess the company was lazy for that, since in nowdays theres no excuse aplicable, but nice graphics, i guess.
KH drought is affecting our boy so much,He's now talking about anything as long as it has the mouse on it😂😢😭

Purple lamp bringing back underrated 3d platformers is always a W.
hey jared, greetings my friend, so hapy that you're enjoying the content you're producing!
What's hapy? 😂😂
Need the second one remade too, but they maybe put the price tag too high to be a real success at launch.
Now i can play epic mickey with a normal controller(or kbm) instead of waving my hand around like im trying to call for a taxi in new york
I cannot tell you how happy my inner child is rn, considering this was my first “big girl” game 🥺 The demo was fantastic
I remember when this game first got announced i literally bought the original for the wii 2 weeks prior
You should play more games by Warren Spector. If you think this is good try Deus Ex 1 and System Shock.
Not to mention Thief The Dark Project too. Man makes all bangers.
0:43 this made me spit my drink out Lmao
I hope it will be a success, i have tried to play the demo on steam deck and it ran very well, only thing i had is that every cutscene the sound didn't match the video, as in they where very obviously not in sync. But am glad it plays at all. The second game in the series from steam doesn't at all run on Linux. So there would be a win there too. Here is hope that they fix the sound and also remake that second game😊
I'm sorry but reading the comments, some people really need to learn to spell or at least double check before they post.
Epic mickey 2 would definetly need alot more refining as you said, I've played and beaten it twice
Love the sawdust sandwich joke and hey like you said it’s not a smooth experience not impossible but difficult to enjoy 😂
OH MY GOD ITS HERE. THIS WAS MY CHILDHOOD GAME
you have to hold the A button down when spinning on wii
Would love to see an Illusion port tho 👀
ive played the epic mickey on the wii and loved the game can't wait for the remake to bring back old memories also they need to remake epic mickey 2 as well.
I absolutely can’t wait for this remake! It truly looks amazing overall. It’s about time you finally talked it about it, Cynical! I never thought you would for some reason.
I don't know if I want a rework on EM2. But I don't think I would be against it either since the lagginess of that game really need some work on
I've been wanting to play the original but seeing that the remake is out in horizon I am definitely going to be picking this one up, let's hope they give the same love for the sequel
Don't hate on the 3DS Power of Illusion game. It was really short. But it felt just like the old side scrolling Mickey games from years ago. I personally loved that one.
Looks like I have my E-named platinum. ^_^
I might play this with my nieces though it is a bit scary.
Probably gonna buy this for my son not gonna lie. Looks epic.. pun intended
Wholesome and you played the OG? And stay cool✌️
@@darkscoutergamer6168 sure did so this looks pretty cool to me too
@@Davewonder31 agreed and btw doing well today?✌️😎
@@darkscoutergamer6168 trying my best how bout yourself?
Did TheGamersJoint just turn into SuperButterBuns?
i played the demo and man i was so happy; the controls! the camera! you can control the camera!! im positive em2 did so poorly because one game of funky camera was enough.
Are you doing a walk-through on epic mickey rebrushed? If so which path will you start with
Never got to play the originals, but always wanted to. Super excited for this game.
Sadly the PC version (the demo) suffers from real bad shader compilation stutters typical of Unreal Engine. I hope they can add a precompile shader step on the PC. It's ruining it for me completely.
Alright Cynical, We’re gonna Need a Playthrough Series- your reactions would literally Make My day 😤✨
3ds epic mickey mentioned lets goooo!!!!!
I am excited for this release, but today *_is_* Astro Bot day
When this game was announced I knew I had to pre order it
I'm so hyped to play this game again the Wii version is one of my favorite games on that system
also ALICE SHOUT OUT LETS GO!!!!!! (screw you EA for cancelling the 3rd game 😭)
I adored this game as a kid and hoped against hope it'd come back someday, and my god I'm so happy haha
So cool, I was just thinking about this game like a week ago, it has so much potential!
PS - Cynical, wanna update the video description? XD
Epic Mickey is the greatest piece of artwork to ever exist.
damn forgot about it
It really is too bad that Astro Bot just came out
Can’t decide which to pick up myself😭🤣 probably Mickey myself
I think its only complaint i have is lack of Dub and copy paste cutscenes, sinds this is supposed to be remake i hope to hear voices in similar way like epic mickey 2 so again having this mumble dissapoint me, and with cutscene i dont mean they look bad because the way they made its make it look nice no matter the time but my issue is how tutorials are literally cut from wii version you can see life bar from wii version on ps5 demo and i find weird place to cut corners
Copy paste cutscenes? And yeah that’s valid fr✌️
I played the cracked version and it's a really good game but I don't think I'd spend £50 on it especially considering how evil Disney is
They didnt made the biggest change everyfan of the old one wanted, an actual bad/evil path, but I guess the company was lazy for that, since in nowdays theres no excuse aplicable, but nice graphics, i guess.
I am ready
Is it weird that I prefer the controls and art design of the original
I love to see it! Besides kingdom hearts, this game was my childhood
You should’ve put the new videos of the game on the right side not the left
I pre ordered it ❤ cant wait to play it again!!!🎉🎉🎉
I grew up on Epic mickey!
epic mickey is so awesome i love this game
