    The Aquaman and Supergirl books will begin with 1959 stories, almost no doubt. Speaking of late '50s, eventually I'd expect Silver Age Green Arrow, likely starting with 1958. Justice Society certainly will begin with the WW II era (around All-Star #14), maybe they will later go back to All-Star #3. As with Plastic Man, all of those earliest GA stories were run in the Archives. Legion looks to be early Bronze Age (Dave Cockrum). Strange Adventures you mentioned has had 2 Showcase volumes. DC began their Strange Advs. reprinting with the first Code approved issue from 1955 in those books. Regarding your Plastic Man question, his self-named title was all Plas stories and Woozy Winks solo stories. Plas' stories in Police Comics (earliest and on) were backed up by Phantom Lady, The Firebrand, the Mouthpiece, The Human Bomb, etc. None of that other than Plas will be collected in his Finest book(s). Superboy will be the top priority for me. Most of those stories (from circa 1954-55), as you indicated, have not been reprinted in the U.S. and I'm eagerly awaiting that collection. Regarding price, I suspect if a particular volume reprints stories that were collected in the Archives, Showcases, omnis, etc., that will allow for lower production costs and therefore more pages included / lower price. Files are ready for so many stories, though some that were in the Showcase collections have never been re-colored.

      I guess it is going to be a major job to get some out more than others that have been done before in the Archives. Would still love to see the earlier Aquaman and Superboy stories but if it 58 etc onward that would be fine, I just love the quirkier GA period material. I would be surprised to see a Human bomb DC finest collection or any of the minor Quality characters even if I would be happy to see the collections. JSA could be issue 14 start point, I could see that but a full set would be nice but any JSA collection is something to look forward to and I have seen two listed now, so that must cover a reasonable number of comics (guessing a 600 page will have 12 in each so that would be 24 issues covered). Really hope the Legion is bronze initially, I have all the silver age omnis and I quite enjoyed those bronze age stories that I picked up in 72 / 73 / 74 etc. We will see in the next few months what will be happening and what to actually buy

    I hope they bring some of the more comedic titles, would love to see Sugar and Spike or Fox and Crow in this format.

      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews 2 дні тому

      Yes, that would be excellent. I could definitely see myself going for Sugar and Spike or some of their other comedic ones. I don't think we will see a Fox and Crow though as I think that was a licensed property as were the Bob Hope and many of their others, maybe wrong on that and perhaps it may still happen.

      @@AndrewBuckleBookReviews I think your correct, the licensed properties probably won't see the light of day, still holding out hope for Sugar and Spike since DC owns the rights outright.

    Growing up in the silver age, there were no comic shops! You had to cross your fingers to get the latest issue! At age nine, my mother sent me to the local confectionery with a permission note for me to buy her cigarettes! My reward was 25 cents! I had the choice of buying two 12 cent comics with one penny left to buy a bubblegum! The other option was to get a 25 cent annual! Such a simpler time!

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews 2 дні тому

      Definitely was. I used to buy a lot of packets for my parents, I should have said no ... no, stop smoking but I never would have thought of that back then. I don't recall getting any additional money, I missed a trick there but I did get some pocket money which was spent on way too many Marvel and DC comics and too many sweets also. Bubblegum as well

    31 volumes announced so far, golden silver and bronze age pre-Crisis collections definately interest me more. I'd love to have golden age Fawcett Comics Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr, and the Marvel Family, other books I'd like - All-Star Squadron, Ambush Bug, Arak, Enemy Ace, Firestorm, Madama Xanadu. Looking forward to golden age Superman as I dont have those comics, the original Superboy stories collected, Justice Society of America, and the Legion of Super-Heroes.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews 2 дні тому

      31 volumes ... I must admit I am losing count. That is a lot, perhaps too many for many to purchase all of them (just a quick calculation, approx £1000 for the lot). All Star Squadron, yes, that would be good and Enemy Ace. I would love to see all the Fawcett books but I doubt it as well as the Superboys. The Atom / Silver age superboy is coming out but I wonder if they will back date and go for the really early issues as well at some point, it does look like they are just all over the place with the number so not in order. GA superman is going to be interesting, I have some of the material or read it elsewhere but a collection that does go through all the GA Superman as well as the other GA heroes would be amazing. Not going to hold my breath though

    • @ellesse3862
      @ellesse3862 2 дні тому

      @@AndrewBuckleBookReviews I wont be holding my breath either, DC has a terrible track history for hype and beginning a line and then giving up. I'll pick up a few as they come out but to be honest I'll be surprised if they stick with. My hope is someone with sense has finally made DC bigwigs realise they can make money off their vast archive vault if they copy Marvel's Epic Collections, which is reported to be their biggest selling range of books.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews День тому

      You would think so, I love the Marvel epic series. DC could do well with this but they need to stick with it and hopefully people will then buy into the series and buy many volumes from it. They have a huge library of material that people have never seen (outside the original comics) and hopefully this time they will really create an amazing series and not just suddenly end.

    I just bought volume 6 of the PS Art Books' Plastic Man series. It includes Plastic Man #22-26. Issue 26 was the last time Jack Cole worked on the book full time. The quality of the reprints is not great, but it's definitely enjoyable. I love the Woozy Winks stories, too!

    The prices on Amazon for the US releases seem to be consistent at 39 dollars. The Legion of Super Heroes, Justice League, and Justice Society are set for release later this year. This looks like their DC version of Marvels Epics. DC has such a rich history and I hope they dip into some of the more obscure stuff.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews 3 дні тому

      I really hope so and the first set of 20 or so releases seem to be promising a good run, hope that is the case. Was disappointed by their dropping of the Showcase as well as the archives. I wondered what the US price was going to be. I assume when they come out in the UK they will fall into a fairly consistent £30 or so range from Amazon (though probably more elsewhere) DC has a wonderful range of comics, so many that have never been released. The JSA is my must have purchase

Thirtieth century comics is always a good place to check out old UK comics such as the POW early issues. 30thcenturycomics.co.uk/catalogue-index/power-comics/ has a number of early issues listed

    As a kid I would have been so disappointed with this as a present..... As one who always used to ignore the written stories in annuals this would have been a huge letdown. I always saw the stories as filler so I didn't read them. Even the Alan Moore Nightraven stories I never read. However now I can go back and read those Night Raven stories which are excellent.

      I don't think I put the Marvel storybooks up against a class writer like Alan Moore. I would have been disappointed with the annual; as well, quite certain I didn't get it but I definitely got the brilliant World Distributors annual with actual Marvel stories for a Xmas or Birthday present, one of my favourites.

      I think I appreciate them more now as well as spot many of the absurdities in the films, which is why I also like the adaptions because they often show the film in a slightly different light. Got most of the films now on bluray, the picture and sound is a whole lot better than probably when I first watched them either at the cinema or on the TV

    Hi Andrew, I enjoy your videos. This one clicked with me because I already have the Dark Horse collection "The Unauthorized Tarzan" with art by Sam Glanzman so this needs to on the shelf next to it. (found it for USD 19. plus 20% off used at a favorite store) It's funny I was not especially attracted to Charlton comics when I was a kid, but now I have five hardcover volumes of their take on The Phantom (via Hermes Press) plus these two Dark Horse collections of Glanzman's work. I remember him mainly from DC War comics I used to read. Anyway great work on your end, this is hardly the first book I've seen on your Vlog that I decided to add to my own collection based on your coverage of it, so thank you for looking out.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews 9 днів тому

      Added the Unauthorized Tarzan to my watchlist. The price is a little steep at the moment, been out of print for a while. Will keep an eye out for a reasonable priced volume. I always have had a soft spot for Charlton, not sure why as they had the weirdest of comics and some good and very bad art and printing. Bought many over the years and often get a copy here or there at comic marts. Phantom / Mandrake etc were one I would often pick up at the seaside, they were not my regular go to comics and I don't think turned up in my hometown, and if they did, I never really took much notice of them.

    I would love to be able to buy this book, but I can't justify spending £50 on something that I already own the originals of. I have always liked nearly everything Dez Skinner has had a hand in. He seems to have the Midas touch went it comes to comics. I have just ordered the "Sez Dez" book from his eBay store. It's book one of his (hopefully) series of books about his life in comics. Just the sort of book you usually go for Andrew 😊. It was this video that reminded me about it, so thank you for the memory jolt! By the way he sells all sorts of comics and mags on his eBay store, lots of which he worked on. I assume this is probably his biggest money earner these days. Another great video Andrew. Thanks 👍

      By the way, you've never seen "Captain Kronos"? 😮 One of my favourite films... I wish it had been given the sequels that were proposed. Thank you for mentioning it, Sez Dez does sound like a book to check out. Known his name for years and years, been involved with so many UK comics. If you have the originals, I agree that buy a collection is a bit redundant though it is on nicer paper and does have all the recollection sections etc but it is also missing all the wonderful articles. I will be looking out for more issues when I go to the London comic mart or perhaps just on ebay, though I doubt if I will get them all.
