Rodcognito 00 & Shawn - yep, just love the on and off throttle whine of those gears! The in-cockpit view was pretty cool on top of everything else that was great about this vid!
Dr Nagamatsu is just freakin awesome. Not only is he sharing history but he's keeping the spirit alive by continuing to drive and maintain the car and I think that's the most important part. I'll never go to a museum to look at cars but I'll go to the race track any day of the week to see them in action. This was a good one as usual Sean, thanks!
He’s such an incredible man! Him and his wife have taken this car all over the world to campaign and show it off. I love that it’s still getting track time and being kept original
I love the fact that every one of your videos, depicts an owner and team, who are really into it, and not just a guy who bought an investment, your videos are what it's all about Shawn, thanks.
Thank you for saying that. From the beginning I told the guys it’s about the cars, owners and builders. They’re the stars here. Glad it comes across that way
Shawn, to you & your team’s credit, it does come across that way! You should also know that, to us reserved Brits like me, your/AutotopiaLA’s slice of West Coast Americana is always a breath of fresh air! And Dr Ernst and his wife as well as the car fit right into that...!
Dude, so cool to see Old Yeller out on the track and showin' the history of pioneers like Carol & Dan...hell I worked as Carol's golf caddy the last 4 years of his life...man, the stories he told & man, he was funny as shit!! Sharp, witty ol fella. Here's a fun fact nobody but Carol's family knows. Carol stored 50 ORIGINAL SHELBY COBRAS IN 59 CRATES, FOR HIS CHILDREN, AS PART OF THIER INHERITANCE.., sobu know how much each of them costs?!! Lucky kids....!
@@almightywhitey6955 I got called to a family home belonging to someone named Shelby- I'm a motorhead from way back but that was a special day! Guest quarters over the garage had blown the AC, and I was directed to fix it; on the way through the large two car garage, I saw the 98 Cobra, the LeMans winning Coupe and two others- there while some remodeling was going on at another place Carrol had an interest in. Abso freakin' lutely awesome! After I came back with a diagnoses , my client did admit to being "one of those Shelbys". Been to several"multimillion dollar car shows", and never, even in a big arena have I seen such an awesome value and history!
It is better that the car lives the life it was designed to than be exiled to a museum. So many historic cars and planes sit an hather dust and slowly slip away.
Charles Royer - I wanted to include the include good Doctor in my silliness - but it didn’t rhyme... More seriously, I think the good Doctor (and his missus!) deserves his own separate thanks for over 30 years dedication to this car and his even longer friendship with its creator Max. 👏👏👏
Everybody knows what an AC Cobra is....but few know where his inspiration came from. This car is a HISTORICAL LEGEND/Classic for so many reasons. Thanks for sharing.
This is what racing used to be all about...home built! Miss those days....just a side comment...saw some thumbs down....Those folks must have miserable lives!
According to Dr Ernie Max's wife welded the frame too, what a beautiful car. An American icon 100%. So glad somebody who appreciates it like Dr Enrie, and that he takes great care of it.
Such the honor to be present and see it in the natural habitat, that Old Yeller. Great video, Shawn! P.s - is there any modern equivalent of racing car today, or it just the wild 60s strict with those home garage engineering?
Man I love that throw back copycat picture Y'all took. Them boys made History, and History never sounded so good, and that thing still goes like 10 cent gasoline.
@@AutotopiaLA That is the sort of question the auction house experts handle- the car itself is a legend- the great drivers who have piloted only add more luster and value. That Ernie still takes it out and races it, like it should be, is just priceless! DA, Carroll and the esteemed rest would smile to see it running today!
MLP-Hot-Rod & Shawn - I wondered the same. Shawn, I also wondered if you’d be able to video a longer spell with Dr Ernst, even if only FaceTime. If he knew Max for even longer than he’s owned the car, there must be much more he can tell us (and thro’ you Shawn!) and the rest of the world...?!
I didn't get to submit a survey request because of the size of the touch pads on the phone and the pads on my fingers, haa! Consider a good thing from me, he's to Ford like Smokey Eunik is to Chevy! If I spelled Smokey's last name wrong , I think he'd probably understand! Later, BOWTIEs 4 ever!!!
Straight cut gears sound so good. History

I find those sounds quite familiar and kinda soothing (my SBC MGB has a tricked out T-10 that makes the same sound+WAY more motor)
Charles Royer - just checked out yr SBC MGB - British Leyland would have been proud of you!
@@jeffreynolds3848 you like my "B"? it a full custom chassis&suspension car built for a sbc
Love that whine! This car is truly a legend
Wow, one incredible piece of Americana. Thank YOU Shawn for getting this video to us. 🇺🇸

tzmetalsmith - well said; totally agree. Your videos are indeed what it’s all about Shawn - PEOPLE and their cars!

So awesome! How amazing to at least be able to sit in it. Wow! Well done and keep up the great work!!
Couldn’t believe Jimmy said to sit in the seat!! The butte that have been in that seat are legends!!
This car should be in a museum it's a driving piece of art and artefact. Absolutely amazing
Agreed but am glad it’s on a track rather than a museum although I’d imagine sooner or later it will be in a museum

I love that Ernie and his wife continue showing the car and that Jimmy and his crew were the ones tasked to save it after Road America. Legendary car
Shawn, in your parlance - totally man!
That was awesome. A peace of history in car racing.
Amazing the history this car has and how relatively unknown it is
I surely hope the story of this great historic machine continues for many more years that follow
Same for me and I trust it will with Ernie and his wife
Its like a v8 Lotus super 7. Tons of character and it sounds great!!!
Flexing hard with this vlog Shawn. Epic, heavy hitters
Couldn’t believe we got the invite to not only shoot it but to be there on test day after a long process of bringing it back to life
@@AutotopiaLA thanks for the vlog to you and all
Incredible!! Thanks for the Great video.
Thanks for watching. What an incredible story
Great time capsule it’s amazing how what we have come to lov today was created by an imagination/vision and a junk yard.
Truly amazing story here! I got to sit in the driver seat and was blown away at the legends that have sat there!
Those fake whitewalls are killer!
Thanks for the videos dude!!
Love those whitewalls!! Thanks for watching the channel!! 👊
What a piece of history. Privilege to watch!! Thanks
The car that started it all
Incredible piece of history!
Think Allard, think of some of the late 50s and early 50s sports car with a powerful American V8.
Nice ride
Wonderful history
American racing royalty right there man!! Awesome stuff Shawn. Thanks for continueing to bring us THE best content.
Thanks for watching and understanding the importance of this one! Awesome 👊
Great story
Truly and incredible piece of American racing history
Jeez those gears are noisy! That car would be a lot fun to drive, thanks for showing it to us!
Glad you enjoyed it. What an honor for us to be the guys to shoot the test day!
Sweet classic
Truly a piece of American racing history
First saw Old Yeller when Shelby drove it at Road America , GReat to see it back on track, thanks rnie.
Ernie hope to see Old Yeller back at Road America.
That’s awesome!! So cool that he continues to drive and show this one to the world!
Thats a crazy lil car! What a history!!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching this one. Not getting the views it deserves with such an incredible history 👊
A blast from the past in a time where you could build your own race car, take it to the track, win trophies, and back home in the evening.
Everybody knows what an AC Cobra is....but few know where his inspiration came from. This car is a HISTORICAL LEGEND/Classic for so many reasons. Thanks for sharing.
This needs way more views. Nice work on the history lesson.
WTF???? Seriously, Who in there right mind would give the thumbs down👎to this magnificent peice of History?
WOW that thing is bad ass
Hell yeah - that's the spirit👌 I remember reading about this car in the pages of HOTROD.
Can’t believe we got to shoot it on it’s test day! My dad said he remembers it running at Riverside before I was born
This is what racing used to be all about...home built! Miss those days....just a side comment...saw some thumbs down....Those folks must have miserable lives!
A very nice piece of history preserved and driven in the present! Thank you
Learned something new! 🤘
Same for me the day we went out to shoot this
LOVE the photo recreation at 2:07.

So awesome really cool, 👍🏾👍🏾🤙🤙 cool for Jimmy to 🙂
Jimmy and his crew were the perfect guys for this one without question
Trippy intake manifold with six singles on a V8 vs four Webers...
Yep and it works. The junkyard dog 🐶
Just subscribed because of this one video. If more of your videos are as informative as this you will have another old motor head follower
Glad you enjoyed this one. Still can’t believe we got this opportunity to spend the day with Jimmy, Ernie and Old Yeller
Thanks to Dr Maginatsu for preserving it.
And for still campaigning it! Amazing how he and his wife take this car around the world for people to enjoy
Immediately after pining for more track day videos, I find THIS cool shoot! Keep it coming, Shawn. Awesome stuff!
Amazing history!!💯🇺🇸💪💯
Truly is. What an honor to be there
Must have been a much "hairier" experience with the narrow, bias ply '50s and early '60s era tires!
Really cool history of an unknown piece of American racing history
Beautiful history

Legend
Beard is looking good dude 🤙🏼
Thanks! Started as lazy and now it’s staying
Such the honor to be present and see it in the natural habitat, that Old Yeller. Great video, Shawn!

Nothing like this could happen at this point in time with restrictions and costs. What an incredible piece of racing history this one is
Awesome story brother!

Cara muito top e recordar e sempre viver
Wait, what? There are car fans that don't know the history of Carrol Shelby?
This one has slipped through the cracks for a lot of people I think
WOW!
I know...I said wow a lot that day
Wander what that thing is worth. I cant imagine what a collector would pay for that.
Less than anything it raced against.
Curious too. Handmade junkyard dog with this history is a big question on price

Did anyone see the intake screen that shot out at 6:43
If you pause it right at 6:44 you can see it
Or pause it and click on the 6:44 here
They were wondering where it went...now we all know...it’s on the back straight 😂
6:42 "Weeeeeeee!". There goes a stack filter. lol
Awesome car, awesome story and owners! What ever happened to the MKI? Was that wrecked?

Our interview with him was longer but the sounds drowned out his voice unfortunately
Don’t know what happened to 1...I’ve been trying to research and not coming up with anything
Shawn, so are you/Dr Ernst going to be able to maybe do a live stream or you post a FaceTime, to make up for this and fill in any other gaps...?
the mk 1 was destroyed by Eric Hauser in 1961 at Riverside. the July 61 issue of R&T magazine has a cool obit on it.
awesome video, really enjoyed that.
...if you know your history...
I learned a lot about this one. Incredible history
Shelby was NOT an "aspiring racer" when he met Max, he had already won Lemans in an Aston Martin and was road racer of the year several times over.
I know the previous owner. He still has some memorabilia and photos in his office.
F*ckin sick
Truly is an amazing story
I seen this on Jay. Leno the. Dr well. Dentist 🦷 was there. Cool 😎😎👌💯

That's not the real ol'yaller2 it doesn't even look like and its not built with the right parts.
Pretty funny comment. So you think Jimmy Shine and the doctor are lying to you? Lol. You should give Jimmy Shine a call sometime. He’s easy to find
@@AutotopiaLA Yes the doctor is lying. That is not the original car that is an absolute fact.

You should do a little research. Bullshit? Lame comment pal. Not hard to find the stories about Carroll and Dan racing this car
And to think, this car we're talking about was racing less than 5 years after WW2. Crazy to think about.
