MsMojo some of those letters I coulda found better choices for (Oliver is far superior to Oklahoma and Kiss Me Kate is a whole lot better than King and I) but a lot of this list really didn’t surprise or upset me.
Chicago was good, but I think Cabaret is better.
M there is a lot of good choices: Muppet Movie (1979), My Fair Lady, Mama Mia, Mame, Moulin Rouge, Meet Me in St Louis, I'm sure I'm forgetting some
I prefer Hair to Hairspray. But Hedwig & the Angry Inch takes the cake.
And Grease probably ties with Gypsy.
Do a Disney film from A to Z
An American in Paris should have beaten out All That Jazz for sure! Most iconic dance finale sequence of all time! Also, I know Fiddler on the Roof is a favorite (for some reason), but the F movie musical should have been Funny Girl.
Many really great Disney musicals were left out like Frozen and Beauty and the Beast. So I can't really understand the list.
All the comments are about how their favorite musicals weren't mention and I'm just here amazed that there are no voice overs explaining each movie.
Refreshing!!
Same I was second guessing that I clicked on the right video 😂
Joaquin Phoenix's forehead face the video would probably end up being an hour long
I was ready to get mad if my favourite wasn’t on the list but it was 😅 I’m just a little obsessed with Newsies
Les miserable, the sound of music, and The phantom of the opera.
Was thinking exactly the same thing however I can understand purple rain and singing in the rain making the list instead as there is a lot of history with them being classics etc
Billy Elliot, jersey boys, Wicked
@@Rubysoho907 Billy elliot is only a musical when it comes to live theatre same as wicked, I don't think they count as they have to be a movie which is a musical... however they are very good choices
@@Rubysoho907 personally would have said burlesque for B but I've never see bye bye birdie
Funny girl should be there
Sound of Music and Oliver should have been on this list, as well as Wizard of Oz (one of the most influential movies of all time)
Love SoM but Singin' in the Rain is a superior movie IMO.
Stephen Brown I disagree. Singing in the Rain deserved the S spot
Sorry but The Sound of Music is average compared to Singin' in the Rain.
@@divyenjoshi1168 as a movie, I would agree with you. As a musical, Sound of Music is much better.
I think the idea was they put Mary Poppins for M so they got a Julie Andrews musical on the list so they did Singing in the Rain for S but I would have done American in Paris for A even though I prefer Singing in the Rain to that a bit, because All the Jazz and Chicago cover the same territory and then done Sound of Music for S and Music Man for M. Wizard of Oz is very important but idk if it’s more seminal than West Side Story so it’s a tough call
Enchanted is truly an underrated movie!!! Loved the character development of Giselle!!!❤️❤️
Yeah! Amy Adams rules!
soma saha Although Giselle ending up with Robert was predictable, the development of her character took me by surprise
Her acting is atrocious in it. No Disney princess acts like that.
I adore this list, it's a shame that there can be only one contender per letter, as there's tons of fabulous movie musicals out there! 🎶🎤🎹
Ask a fan for another list. Believe me they will.
M should be the hardest: Mary Poppins, Les Mis and Mamma Mia!
Omg exactly!!
@@Enia1977 Moulin Rouge also
@@markbonz2810 Ofc
My fair lady
Mean girls
RIP Phantom, Rent, Sweeney Todd, Les Mis, Moulin Rouge...
funny girl, oliver, sound of music,
I totally agree. Les miserables is better than most of the musicals in the list
@@user-ki6jn8lb9p The movie version wasn't.
Annie should have been in there
watch All That Jazz, though
it is REALLY good
I agree, though "All That Jazz" is really as brilliant as they say it is! 🎺👏🏽🎹
Which one?? Like, there are many versions of Annie.
Annie, it's film version is so terrible! All That Jazz deserves it. Watch it 😏
All That jazz isn't even a Musical. It's more of a story with music and dancing. I would suggest: ALADDIN, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, or AMERICAN IN PARIS.
I can’t be the only one upset over the fact they chose Lala land instead of Les mis. Right? RIGHT???
I’m so upset at first I thought maybe because it was broadway also but then I remembered so was Newsies, Chicago, West Side story etc. I was also a little upset Annie didn’t get A
That was a no brainer. Don't know who put this list together
La La Land won more oscars?
Brigadoon for B
Or the fact that Enchanted is NOT A MOVIE MUSICAL!!
Where’s Phantom of the Opera?!
Best Musical
Best musical yes, but (in my opinion) not the best movie
They start with the, read the rules of the beginning of the video
Not a good movie. Also it’s The Phantom of the Opera. They said they weren’t counting musicals with The in the title.
Purple Rain topped it
they left out "Little Shop of Horrors". for shame
daRaginCajun okay I agree with this.
I know to go with LaLa Land! for shame
No they didn't, because La La Land was better.
Shane Ballance la la land is trash
It's a travesty. I had to go back to see what the L film was. Little Shop is so much better.
When the only musicals you’ve ever watched are from Disney channel
braeden martin so you haven’t seen grease or hairspray
Gabby Davis well I have but when I think musical it’s always Disney channel stuff
you haven't seen Hair or All That Jazz or Cabaret?
you're missing out
Jason Phillips I have its just when I think musicals I think Disney channel
braeden martin But that’s not what you wrote that’s what makes your comment confusing
came to see if moulin rouge! was in the m and totally forgot mary poppins existed
there are way too many good ones that start with M
it's a tough call
Truth be told... Moulin Rouge was one of the few movies I've ever walked out of. I could not stand it.
@@mckenna8663 I watched it for the first time recently, and yeah it's confusing at times. But at other times I understand what's going on. I really like the cast, costumes, and songs though.
i watched this like "okay its either Moulin Rouge or Mamma Mia" and got so confused lol
@@Shae29 I understood it just fine. I just thought it was a piece of ---.
LOVE MUSICALS and have played in many of them. Hated that.
I feel that some should have at least an honorable mention...
- A chorus line
- Cabaret!
- The producers
- The wiz
Thank you for mentioning The Wiz! Overlooked classic
The Sound of Music?
The sound of music
Yaaas @ The Wiz
They said at the begging that titles with The at the beginning doesn't count, because let's be real, they're many titles start with THE
okay i’ll admit la la land is incredible, but les mis is the one of the best musicals ever
Agreed!
Based on the rules, it was competing in the M category. The HARDEST letter on the list, by far!...
With how flat Russell Crowe was?
Les Mis is good, but I believe La La Land beats out Les Mis's movie adaptation.
Miguel Borrero yes i agree that la la land’s movie adaption was better than les mis but les mis is one of the best musicals ever and i was talking about the musical production not the film
With all due respect: SOUND OF MUSIC????!!!!
I believe that sound of music is a much better Musical.... But singing in the rain is a better movie musical.
Mc Kenna I respect your opinion, but I’m gonna have to disagree 😅
The Sound of Music is a great musical, but Singing in the Rain is a great movie musical. "Make Them Laugh" was production genius for its time.
I would pick Sweet Charity over The Sound of Music for the Rich Man's Frug alone.
*Due
Sherry Tingley Thanks my dude!
Where is funny girl excuse me Rachel is offended
I AGREE! They should have included Funny girl
Rachel has disliked the video
Gleeks unite
Look, I don't know Funny Girl, but I do know that NOTHING BEATS FIDDLER!!
Gleeks forever. Rachel has been very offended and wants to call ms mojo and ask her to REDO the list.
Edit: corrected a sentence
What?! Shouldn't "Wizard of Oz" score a TIE with "West Side Story?"
Rosanna Tufts I literally was shocked that they didn’t put that
Nope... Can't compare.
There could have been several ties, like Mary Poppins and My Fair Lady. Also Fiddler On The Roof and Funny Girl; Singin’ In The Rain and A Star Is Born (1954 and 2018); Chicago, Cabaret and also Cats (kidding).
What about wicked
Right
Kinda shocked (and overjoyed) that they didn't take the easy out and slap Sweeney Todd in here for 'S.' Love Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman as much as the next gal, but there's no beating out Gene Kelly!
I'll agree with you. I do love the movie Sweeney Todd. But for the letter S, there is no other choice than Singin in the Rain. (And though I am a huge Rodgers and Hammerstein fan, Singin in the Rain was a better MOVIE MUSICAL than Sound of Music.)
Valkyrja I was trying to predict as we moved from letter to letter and Singin’ in the Rain came immediately to mind without even thinking about The Sound of Music. Now that I’ve thought about it, definitely Singin’ In The Rain!
Although Xanadu is one of the only musicals that starts with X, I was really happy it was on here.
Me too! Fun fact! It was the last movie Gene Kelly danced in, and originally he didn't want to dance in it. He was 68 at the time. Glad he changed his mind! 🙂
@@Sunflower8587 Indeed! Gene was one of the best parts of the movie IMO!
So many good clips to choose from! Hard to pick just one that captured the craziness of it all.
Me too. It gets so much hate but it’s just a blast to watch it revel in it’s unashamed 1980s camp.
I was also happy to see Xanadu on here. Love this movie & the music.
A: An American in Paris
B: Bugsy Malone
C: Cabaret
E: Evita
H: A Hard Day's Night
J: Jailhouse Rock
N: Nashville
P: Pygmalion
Y: Yankee Doodle Dandy
Annie? I mean that was the first musical I ever watched.
Me when the N pops up: OMG NEWSIES YASSS
Maddy Mincey I literally did a flip
I was waiting to be mad if it wasn’t 😅 I’m a little obsessed
Sameeeee
YESSSSSSS I LOVE NEWSIESSS BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE PUT THE LIVE ONE
Les Misérables starts with 'les' that is french for 'the', in that case should go in letter 'M' by the rules of the video, but instead Mary Poppins took the place and I think it deserve it more
Oooooo, technicality!!!!! Hahahaha
Still, I would pick Lion King or Little Mermaid over LaLaLand which stunk!!
@@mckenna8663 they weren't including animated musicals
I love Enchanted!! 💕💕💕
underrated! 😊
Esther Jessica Yes! Exactly! 💕☺️
Even though Marry Poppins is so iconic, Moulin Rouge is my personal favorite.
I thoroughly enjoyed Moulin Rouge, however in my opinion Mary Poppins is much better. Moulin Rouge honestly didn't hook me quite well enough. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if I'll watch it much more unless I'm introducing a friend to it. I could watch Mary Poppins multiple times a week and do perfectly fine.
Some other great musicals left off this list with Fred Astaire are:
*Easter Parade - Fred Astaire and Judy Garland
*Bandwagon - Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse
*Funny Face - Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn
* Royal Wedding - the well known Fred Astaire dancing on the ceiling and dancing with a hat rack scenes are both in this movie.
Plus the duet between Bing and Frank in Royal Wedding as well as the bit with Louis Armstrong.
@@ralfkramden9291 I think you're thinking of High Society which also starred Grace Kelly. Also another great movie! 🙂
JulianFan55a How about Shall We Dance with Rogers
@@manuelorozco7760 Yes! Another favorite movie! 🙂
agree on Funny Face!
Honorable mentions:
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Rent
Little Shop of Horrors
The Wiz
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
I feel like there should be a part 2 to this list.
LovelyLDH_84 I thought Joseph and the Technicolored dreamcoat was part of Jesus Christ super star
Niav Heffernan no. Joseph was long before Jesus.
It's a crime that "The Wizard of Oz" isn't on this list. It's the definition of a timeless, iconic musical. Period.
Jessie Blossom west side story is just as iconic, west side story won 10 oscars including best picture for a reason. West side story is probably the best movie musical of all time so unfortunately the wizard of oz just comes up short
Not over West Side Story it ain't
That’s the problem with doing a list this way. AFI for example ranks The Wizard of Oz 3rd all-time and West Side Story 2nd. But only one can make an A-Z list. Then there’s the S’s. Sound of Music, Singin’ in the Rain, Seven Brides, Show Boat, etc.
Nobody:
Not a single person
me: at home alone
Les Mis, Music Man, Kiss Me Kate, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Miss Saigon
Great list. So happy that Hairspray made it in there.
I don't get West Side Story over The Wizard of Oz at all. The Wizard of Oz is not just a classic but it defined an entire genre. I personally like The Wiz better but there would be no Wiz without the original
Read the rules of the begging, they aren't including titles with THE at the beginning, they're so many
@@GiigyArmendariz Actually, they do include titles with THE, AN, and A, only that they will consider the first letter of the following word. For example, "The King and I" represents the Ks
@@patriciomejia1114 thank you.
The WIz was awful just the fact that casting Miss Ross as Dorothy a terrible idea.
@@lajas46 I agree that Diana Ross made a terrible Dorothy. They have stuck with the great and underappreciated Stephanie Mills. But the rest of the casting was awesome. I especially liked the casting of the good and evil witches and the Tin Man
I watched Yentyl because of this list and it took me a while to figure out if I liked it or not. I think about it all the time, so I like something about it...you feel every type of emotion watching it. It’s very well done and has so much heart. I would recommend seeing it for yourself.
how are Les mis and Mama mia not on this list?!
I loved this and the horror a-z videos. Keep it up! My favorites from this list was Rocky horror picture show, Into the woods, Mary Poppins and The Newsies
I knew Grease and Hairspray was going to be on this list!!!
Such an accurate and warm list, thank you😍
Good list, but “La La Land” over “Le Miserables?” I think not.
“Les" is just French for “the." It would go under M.
Wouldn't it be "Mary Poppins" over "Les Misérables" because if the word "the" doesn't count then "Les" would probably not count either. I still agree with you I think it should be on the list😅 but I think it should be instead of Mary Poppins (I love Mary Poppins but for me "Les Mis" is still better) 😊
M category?
Imagine actually thinking that Le Mis is better than the masterpiece that is La La Land
Movie-wise, yes. Show wise, Les Mis wins.
It’s funny that high school musical wasn’t on here but 2007 version of hairspray was because both stars Zac Efron lol 😂 I do love both musicals
Jassy Jones I thought High School Musical would be H for sure
mariogamefreak1 exactly. That movie defined a whole entire generation
Jassy Jones HSM is better than Hairspray
Hahahaha... No, I picked Hairspray. That is until Hamilton is made into a film.
Manuel Orozco both are really good
Honestly, I think in the “In The Heights” is gonna be really good
YAY I LOVE NEWSIES!!!!!! Thank you for giving it the recognition it deserves
Emma Ray I prefer the stage version over the movie
Enchanted is my absolute most favorite on this list.
ummmm why isn’t the sound of music on this list. that movie-musical was I-CON-IC!!!
But singing in the rain is often regarded as the best movie musical ever made. I say this though The Sound Of Music is one of my favorite movies ever
Annie, Grease, Little Shop Of Horrors, Moulin Rouge, West Side Story
Why are you showing Morris Day for Purple Rain? I know that the Bird was featured but Purple Rain is all about Prince.
Purple Rain was a crappy movie and musical.
@@docdoowop excuse you. Purple Rain won an Oscar
I have nothing but time for this. Y'all better do me proud!!
The Last 5 Years > La La Land
I was just so happy to see Newsies on the list!! One of my favorites. Love Mary Poppins but Moulin Rouge is my favorite movie musical but that’s just my personally preference ❤️
C should be a tie between Cabaret and Chicago, F could be Funny Girl and W should ABSOLUTELY be Wizard of Oz!
Moulin rouge, My fair lady, The sound of music, New York New York, Cabaret, Hair...
I think Mamma Mia & Moulin Rouge deserve a spot here
Miss Saigon also
@@justme7255 AFAIK there isn't a movie version of Miss Saigon
I actually thought High School Musical was going to be for H
Waheed Abdullah either way it was Zac Efron, but me too
i know, where was that, and, G should have been Grease: Live
Was hoping for Hello Dolly.
Hell no
Lol
So much fun! Great list!
I'm so glad they included Top Hat! And west side story, singing in the rain, zeigfeld Follies, etc
A shame that Hello Dolly isn't on the list ._.
Knew The King And I,Oklahoma and West Side Story HAD to be here. Fantastic list!
So glad that Bye, Bye, Birdie made the cut, but was surprised it wasn't Brigadoon! Great picks tho. So many good ones to list!
That was fun! Thank you :)
Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease and Newsies are my all-time favorite musicals! This list is 100% accurate.
Did you watch the JCS that ALW streamed over Easter weekend? The arena tour? If so, what did you think? I’m fascinated by how “love it or hate it” that production seems to be...
@@allisonbergh4429 I loved it! The music is always so powerful.
I’m still waiting for funny girl and wicked (preferably lea Michele will be cast in least one of those movies)
There is a funny girl movie though. I think it should have been on here. I’m guessing you only want Lea Michele because she was in glee, because same
i kinda want a remake of the funny girl movie with lea michele
La La Land is one of my favorites films of all time so I like the indication here
amazing how old some of them are and yet to be replaced.
W i excpected wizard of oz or
M for meet me in st. louis
I expect 1 judy garland film tho :(
The real name is the wizard of Oz, and they said that they don't include musicals with THE at the beginning
Giselle Armendariz OK, seriously, if a film starts with the word “A,” “AN,” or “THE,” then that first word is ignored in favor of the next word. For example, their selection for K was THE King and I. The R selection was THE Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I feel like everyone forgets about “Enchanted” it’s litterly one of the best musicals ever
*You put Newsies on the list, therefore you have earned my utmost respect.*
I’m actually really happy Newsies was on this list. Extremely underrated musical
Yes Purple Rain is the best ‘P’ musical, but man what about “Paint Your Wagon”? You have Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin singing!!! That has to count for something!
No offense but... no.
Burlesque should’ve made the list! 💕
I've been waiting for this...I've only seen 3 lol
My favorites on the list are Grease, Mary Poppins and Top Hat. I’m surprised you included Xanadu. That was one of my guilty pleasures in high school!
As much as I love Hairspray, H should of been Hedwig and the Angry Inch 🤔
Is there a movie of that musical?
yup, from 2001. highly recommended!
ME (A THEATRE KID): SEES RENT ISNT ON THERE
ALSO ME: SCROLLS DOWN TO SEE WHO ELSE IS OUTRAGED AT THIS LIST
Ok this was seriously fun! I missed 6...😢 my high school chorus teacher and my college show choir professor would be so upset with me lol
Haven't seen the Hairspray movie yet. It's on my list. I agree with quite a few of them, my absolute favorite being Xanadu.
That was an EXCEPTIONAL LIST!!! Had so many of my favorite musicals including Mary Poppins and La La Land. That was such a great video. Really lifted my spirits up for the day :) Thank you again, MsMojo. Oh and, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
me skipping through the video to see if the Greatest showman is here .. meh
That was never a movie musical-
AWESOME COLLECTION !!!!!
I love all of them I love how there so in synched!!!...😱💯😎😀😍😃😘❤️☺️😄🥰😊😆
Annie and Sound of Music should've been on this!!!
Everyone: "I'm so sad they didn't use 'my favorite famous movie musical'"
Me: "I just hoped for Doctor Horribles Sing-Along Blog"
That was delightful 😌
very very great fun list I like it a lot great job mis mojo one of my very favorite list ever you should make a part 2 of this great list
I woulda gone with Hair and not Hairspray, but that's just me.
Frances Locke Love both but the Hair movie is so different than the stage production.
I'm totally with you on that one
I 100% agree on this!
the fact that M wasn't Moulin Rouge 😩
Kinda hoped for Miss Saigon, the vocals were amazing
@@aimy3943 true but the list is for movie musicals
Only missed 4 cuz I couldn’t remember the Fred Astaire movie... Love this list!
I love sound of music but think they were right to pick singing in the rain. Its one my my faves and sooo underrated!!
THE BEST A-Z LIST EVER! B should’ve been Beauty and the Beast even tho it’s animated cause it’s just that good! 🥀
No, Beauty and the Beast could've be on this list. It as both a Broadway musical and a live action movie.
4:40 Newsies I knew it would be and G=Grease.
Is Newsies good?
I’m so excited to see enchanted on here it’s such a happy film 😊
Annie and the Sound of Music!
If movie musicals on here: Why not The Greatest Showman?!🥺
Viju Schmidt I was disappointed, but not surprised.
They should have listed "Annie " for letter A !!
before I started watching the video, I thought "if All That Jazz isn't letter A I'm not going to bother"
yes it is that good
Annie is cute
Epic list!
The first Ms Mojo video I haven't had to watch at 1.75x speed....
MsMojo, please do an A-Z for animated musicals!
I read the comments so I knew P wasn’t going to be Phantom but I couldn’t think of what it could be and when it came up I wasn’t even mad. Purple Rain is one of my favorite movies 💜 I literally squealed with delight lol
☔️
Wizard of oz should have been on this list. It’s one of the most iconic movies of all time and the most influential. I’ve been the scarecrow in the wizard of oz once when we did it at my school. My mom is also the drama club teacher. Which is pretty cool so I thought i would mention it.
Glad to see that Prince's Purple Rain is on the list .
Dude Enchanted is my favorite live action Disney movie! ❤
