Regarding Hua Chenyu you must watch more of his performances because he is extremely unique. He'll often surprise you like a chameleon. You hardly predict how his next performance will be. Great composer, amazing singer and extraordinary performer all in one. My all time favorite artist. Thank you for reacting to him. More of him please.

Harri, you've found my favorite singer and performer in the world. I'm in LA and am studying Mandarin at 70 because of this man. I haven't been this excited about a musician since I first heard the Beatles at age 12. HuaHua (his nickname) is a musical genius who can do anything. HIs compositions are extraordinary, although the rules of the competition he was in when he did Ordinary Path were that each singer could do only two of their own songs. He chose this song by the great composer Pu Shu and rearranged it himself. It's extremely moving to me, though his own songs are even more thrilling. He has received the Most Influential Artist in China award numerous times, and tickets for his concerts are impossibly difficult to come by. All of this talk about him, and nothing about his voice. You did the same thing by getting caught up in the lyrics. The point is that he is a fabulous singer. You should listen to his song CHILD. Or maybe NUNCHUCKS. Or my personal favorite 7 PERSONALITIES. The Martians (his fans) love this song, but it doesn't really show his capabilities. Please try another song.

Ordinary path is kind of believing that we are all common human beings , get lost , disappointed to ourselves, so he says we are familiar to each other.we are actually small, like grass, like wild flowers. But in our mind, everyone has the inner power to accept all those difficult stuff, and try to help ourselves to live. You need to go back to accept you are a person unimportant to the world, but important to your life, yet we will keep on fighting and struggles.

This is a cover song, basically saying that he once had it all but when it's gone he fall into despair trying to get back all of it. Then he got the enlightment that being ordinary is also has it's own significance. It's buddhism talk about being at peace with yourself.

Hello! Glad you found Hua Chenyu, he's my favorite artist, genius composer/musician/performer. This is a cover HuaHua rearranged, the storyline is the character strived to have everything but once he got it, he realised he didn't care that much (destroyed everything) and it didn't make him happy, being ordinary and not possessing much is a way to feel better, that's all :) HuaHua is a rocker, rapper, has beautiful ballads and even operatic pieces. Please more Hua Chenyu, you can find all his videos on the channel Hua Chenyu English Subs, next Bullfighting or New World please!

Hua Chenyu is my favorite artist. My favorite song of his is 7 Personalities ( it is a very special song and the lyrics are difficult to understand but I love the song). You can follow his Singer 2018 journey and you will see lots of different styles and surprising performances. Or jump to some of his newer stuff like Madhouse, Airplane Mode, Bullfighting, Jackdaw Boy... and so much more. Thank you for reacting to Hua Chenyu

This is one of his 'most tame' performance and its a song cover. His own song compositions are non-mainstream and very often deep and thought-provoking. Dun expect any fixed genre from him cos he has none. He does rap, rock, ballads, reggae, musical, pop, everything. And his stage personality changes too as he morphs himself into diff characters according to the song he wana portray. Yet to see a more versatile artiste out there

Nice reaction. This is one of his mild performances. You commented about how China has changed to open up about reacting to performances. Hua is a new age composer who's composition is more genre bending setter. If you see more of his performances, you will see what we mean. Nunchucks is one great example that mixes many genre's. It is a cover, but he rearranges in a creative way.

Welcome to Hua Chenyu! Yes, he's an incredible performer. He's acting the role of someone who would sing this song. He relates to the character, but it isn't Hua himself. It's a cover song, and it isn't a good place to start. But you found him, and that's what matters.
As for the meaning, he says his songs mean whatever they mean to you. For me, the key is his expressions and the music. He doesn't look like he wants to be ordinary, and he doesn't look happy about it. To me, he looks bitter. His voice sounds constricted, and the music builds from ballad to rock. Then he offers up the mic, his musical talents, which are not at all ordinary. But on the last lines, he looks and sounds even more bitter. That's how I see it.
My advice is to pay more attention to the emotion, his face and movements, the music and vocal styles, than to the lyrics. The words give the specifics, but his expressions give the interpretation. Think of it like musical theater. He's acting, in addition to singing, and he's a master performer.
Thank you for the reaction. I subscribed and hope you continue reacting to Hua.

you dont get the message of the song ? My daughter understood what happened when you want to be the best musician and failed ?
"Let it be" move on with life. This came from a girl who has perfect pitch. Aiming unrealistic goals may kill you. Real life experience. Being ordinary will give you strength to move on and succeed

Hey Harri. I interpret the lyrics as such: His striving for the extraordinary made him destructive and unappreciative of what he already had. Once he realises this and accepts his original foundation, he only strives to maintain and improve that foundation instead of striving for things that he either cannot change or that are coveted only because we are influenced to believe that certain luxeries, functions or positions are superior to that of others. I also think it is a criticism of popular culture and the wish to be considered special, however, when something out of the ordinary actually appear it is rejected and criticised. For Hua Chenyu "ordinary" is maintaining integrity instead of conforming to the popular notion of individuality that arguably is more a quest to be noticed as opposed to a core individual believe.
Please, react to more of his performances on Singer 2018.
I will ad the links in the comments.

Well the way you explained and/or interpreted the lyrics (and/or taking the translation in the subtitles as the real translation), I wouldn’t be surprised if it was something the Chinese government pushed them to be. It’s definitely a kind of message that the Chinese government would like to send out.
We cannot ignore the suppression from that government and I’m certain that their influence reacher further than we can imagine. This might just as well be a result of that.

Hi Harri! Welcome to the world of Hua Hua. This song - which I have watched about 50 times- does not represent Hua- he is a true performer and you will see a different performance with each song. He is more than a singer- he is an actor, a musician, a song writer, etc.
His duets are incredible- he takes each partner to a higher level, seemingly effortlessly.
My interpretation of this song is that the words covey the emptiness that material success brought, the meaninglessness of a lifestyle of self indulgence. I believe that Hua has studied meditation and Buddhism, but I could be wrong. Perhaps other fans can help.
I know that he was raised by his father after his parents divorced, he was a child prodigy in music, he was very lonely. His sadness is evident in “Child”.
He performs a trilogy about mental illness- very tender, he talks to the crowd for about 10 minutes about mental illness before singing.
He also has a lot of fun with high energy songs!
Hua Chenyu and Dimash (Kahizstan ) are the true giants of music today. The depth of their performances, the dedication, the artistry, the passion, is a true joy for us - we are so lucky!
Dimash- Ave Maria ( not the regular) brings the voice of an angel to us living on Earth. Beautiful beyond compare.
Dimash- there are no words to explain Dimash. He is a true Renaissance prince.
He is a big Michael Jackson fan. He sings in many languages( Kazakstan, Russian, Chinese, French, Japanese, English… in 7+ octaves, swims to build lung capacity, practices singing for 3+ hours a day, is getting his doctorate in music, plays several instruments, including native instruments, has a wonderful family, 27 years old. Just a little info for you. Other fans know so much more!

Maybe not the best place to start. The premise of the competition was well know singers rearranging and singing covers (2018 was won by Jessie J). This one was a theme song for a Chinese road movie which I understand was popular, hence the audience knowing the song despite not hearing this version before. The original artist was also extremely popular. Hua Hua is one of the best artists I have come across. He is quite unique and cannot be pigeon holed in to a particular genre. Every song is different even the trilogy of songs talking about depression though there is a theme, Nunchucks mixes a number of different styles ua-cam.com/video/lLs-0A0yEuA/v-deo.html (cover) while Fake Monk is very different ua-cam.com/video/wpwo-rOqP-Q/v-deo.html (cover) this link includes the pre interview where he explains his arrangement.

My interpretation of it is that the whole song is not the solution, I did that in teenage years when I failed I thought that I had to be ordinary to be accepted, so I take it it is a national very important song. It's like......next song will be the real revelation . Like s musical. And notice his wardrobe choice....not for ordinary ❤ mind my English, not able to explain very well, hope it is received right.

some of my understanding of the ORDINARY PATH wording: 平凡之路,translated as 平凡(ORDINARY )之(the)路(PATH )。In Chinese, 平凡 means that 平(flat)凡(adj, common/norm/shared&similar to majority),so "ordinary" isn't totally translated wrong, but not right to me either. I personally believe the songwriter is more focused on the same feelings(internal path) we shared as the deep essences in life among all people. As although we ALL go through our own unique path, as we had our own up&down in different forms, those feelings to the essence as being human are being commonly shared. Thus in that context, 平凡之路,as the path to find ourselves, and by finding ourselves through our own up&downs, I believe the writer believes that the enlightenment is the moment you find alignment with others internally, and in that sense, the ordinary path, is the life path we shared uniquely.
