Just leaving this here because some people seem to be missing the point of this video... 5:44 Just to clarify, AQW, or Adventure Quest Worlds is the MMO version of the old turn-based Flash game. It took the movement from Dragon Fable and combined it with MMO elements. It has its moments for sure, but it's the kind of game you revisit twice a year just to run some of the new content, then forgot it exists for months at a time. JoshStrifeHayes made some good videos on both AQW and some other Artix (the company making the game) games. Oh, and grey arrows don't mean you can't go there yet, it means it takes you to a new area instead of the next screen within the same area. I'd love to see you play some more AQW or their 3D alternative AQ3D. It's not a great MMO, but it's very nostalgic for a lot of us who played it in school or before our PCs could run World of Warcraft
Wasn't the original AdventureQuest also an MMO? Or maybe I'm just misremembering.. The last time I logged into battleon I think I was 8 or 9 years old. I definitely want to checkout AQ3D in the future :)
@@WaydotsNope. Adventure Quest and Dragonfable are both single player RPGs. They're online because back in the day you played through them via your browser. And they still receive updates to this day. The original Live service game.

Endless Online ended ages ago though, do the private servers still even exist? (I used to be an EO player when I was younger, was there when it ended and moved to a private one, and well like 15 years later I have no idea if they still exist or lot, as I had moved on)
I was having an emotionally crappy morning and really needed this video right now. Thank you Waydot. Love your content. Just the escape I needed at this moment, good sir.
Tibia was my very first MMO back in 2000. I was like 9 at the time. Seriously shaped what I thought the future of MMOs would be... I was very wrong. It's nothing like it was back when I played it. Back when I played you had to manually speak to NPCs. And manually cast spells... by typing words. It was awesome.
Yeah the game has completely changed from what it was. It's a shame. Kind of weird that no one has made a more modern version of a game like tibia with the ability to level up infinitely.
My type of genre of games, kinda goes into this A leveling up system that involves the ability for me to get skills as I level up, to get better, weapons and armor, to get permanent upgrades, to be able to upgrade my weapons and armor An open world map, it doesn’t have to be 100% open like, for instance how Skyrim has the invisible boundaries, if it doesn’t have those, then it has impossible small mountains that prevent you from crossing them A wide variety of enemies, obviously, as you start off enemies will be relative to your level, and as you level up enemies will get stronger with you, and you will have upgraded versions of different types of enemies A wide variety of weapons and armor that includes like a chess piece, a helmet and gauntlets and boots Sure a main storyline, but a game that doesn’t force you to follow the main storyline I am currently playing a game on my Xbox called ( Isekai Rondo ) and it fits pretty much everything that I mentioned here, I have been playing the game for 21 hours 47 minutes and 22 seconds my party of four characters are all level 100 and that’s not even the max level, I don’t think there is a max level. Yes, of course everybody will always have a different preference than you when it comes to different games and that’s perfectly fine but if you make a review, because what you were saying, is your opinion of the game that is completely fine as I said, but if somebody comments to your review and says you did not give it enough of a chance, and you immediately go after them for it, then you’re just horrible I think any sort of game should be played for a minimum amount of time obviously, if there is some sort of tutorial, then play through the tutorial which does not count as like the time limit and then, as soon as you’re out of the tutorial, set a timer for one hour and see what you can do within that one hour
I almost feel like Nexon should drive people towards the heroic servers. In MapleStory heroic servers are basic self found from arpgs you can't trade others but your progression is purely your own but you can group with others and all pay to win is removed from the cash shop and can be earned. Interactive servers are just old MapleStory trading and heavy pay to win. Hyper burning worlds are special servers they have a couple times a year that just let you blitz leveling if you want to try something new or level an alt for the Legion system.
With Ultima Online you hit Alt+C to enter between War and Peace mode (and they enter a battle stance). Also, the skills all have multiple uses towards combat among other things. For instance, Anatomy will give you additional damage to attacks as well as increase the amount you heal with bandages and so on. I also noticed you didn't have any weapons equipped (you drag them onto the doll). Spells themselves require you to forage or buy reagents to use. I'm not sure about modern MMOs and I haven't played UO in maybe 20 years. But out of the hundreds of MMOs I've played between Asia and the West, it's probably one of the most memorable and complex Sandbox games. Though it is a good thing you didn't attack anything as you probably would have been trashed. Back then it took months if not years of actual gameplay to level up skills (and you gained stats through use of skills like you would in real life -- athletics will give strength or dex). I think it took me around 12 months of playing all night to get to Grand Master Blacksmith and miner as well as a 6x GM Warrior and 6x GM Mage / Bard Tamer with two Dragon Pets (tamed pets weren't like other games, they actually kept all their HP and attack and stuff. So you had dragons that were 10x more powerful than players and could fight in dungeons with you -- though you have to be a Grand Master Bard / Tamer). I don't even recognize most of that A.I. and the bag space looks strange now. If you die you have to find a spirit healer wandering around, be resurrected by a player or find a shrine or town. You also are able to show yourself as a ghost to be healed or run around invisible; need to get to your corpse before it decomposes to get your items and gear back or it could be looted by other players. I hear there are actual attacks now in the game associated with new skills like Bushido and such. Though it was mainly auto attacks or spell casting / song playing when I played. I remember back in 1998 or so being so enthralled with the ability to not only build a house but also craft a table, chair, plate, food, cup, untensils, etc. Then place the table down. Plate on the table. Food on the plate. Cup on the table. Pour a drink in the cup and a candle on the table. All from the materials I mined and the skills I worked on over weeks and months.
Been a RotMG player since early 2011 and am basically trapped in the game. It definitely has plenty of issues (especially in the new player category) but I am still happy to see how far it's come, going from a 2-week assemblee competition finalist to what it is now. I'm glad that you at least mentioned the feel of the game, as the controls (as simple as they are compared to most MMO's) are still nice and tight for the most part. Born Again was also developed by an Ex rotmg player, who was the original developer of Darza's Dominion (another game identical to RotMG)
It's ancient these days. But NexusTK was my original favorite 2D MMO. I also loved Maple Story. Amazing music, graphics, combat. It's just the monetization that sucks.

the fourth coming aka T4C was a mmo everyone was playing in quebec its was really really good at a time for the Role playing there is still some private server running that i play for more then 5 yr and had many fownd memory.
Tibia is one of the ONLY mmo's left that the community decides most server rules, every single character has an interaction and a consequence. You literally will know everyone on your server. There is SO much about Tibia that makes it insane. The new player experience, new characters has and will always be shit. The game is one of the best MMOs ever made and continues to be so. I've been playing since 1999. Classic Controls are the move if you ever play.
There is actually, because the video has chapters I have to put the name of each on in the description, check it out! I did not try conquer online unfortunately
one of the thing with heartwood too is that melee weapons have the advantage of aoe. so you group together a bunch of enemies and clear packs as opposed to 1 on 1 with ranged
you missed one fantasy online 2 he is in beta is not free and is a revival from fantasy online from a decade ago. the game shut down because they dev made events to make armor sprites and some were too close to other stuff and they got sued so he had to open bankruptcy and came back now to try again
I'm not sure about this one, I think a lot of the games didn't get a chance to shoot their shot... the format of the video doesn't really go hand in hand with how MMOs in general are - anyone who decides to stick with an MMO or not with just the tutorial section doesn't understand this genre IMO. I know it was supposed to be a first impressions thing, but when even LazyPeon's 5-10 hour first impressions don't feel like enough of a solid try, these 10-30 minute impressions feel way too damn short to me.
1:29:48 Uhm... there was this _tiny_ thing about a cold or flu or something. I don't fully remember, but people really liked staying at home because of it.
Hello for tibia there are servers called open tibia servers basically (modded) servers generally they are pretty similar but higher exp rates and loot rates I'd recommend that for trying out tibia it's a fantastic game that I've played for over 20 years and keep finding myself going back. It does have a pretty steep learning curve and is kinda slow early on that's why I recommend people to try (OT) servers for faster progression before spending time on real tibia and not enjoying it it's also a premium base game so yeah.. but it is a great game once you dive into it! If you wanna give tibia another try I can give you some assistance!
I know one no one ever knows about that I've not seen on any MMO list including that 250 MMO list that just came out. The 4th Coming (T4C) Realmud Server
As someone who is nostalgic for MapleStory, it is objectively a horrible game. incredibly predatory in terms of psychological manipulation of their playerbase. Almost everything is time limited, uses multiple currencies to obscure true value, and usually isn't even permanent. Monetization like vac pets should be fucking illegal.
Watching someone who knows nothing about Maplestory is great cause he was so wrong about everything but damn if theres no way for him to ever know that lol
Not being able to play DFO is disappointing. The classes are vast and diverse (outside some of the gender swap) the sprite art is god tier, the combat is fun and its still one of the biggest games in asia despite coming out in the early 2000z
Immersion does not equal 3d and graphical fidelity..... Gameplay systems, progression and artdesign are more important for immersion. That s why Stardew is the best, Gothic 1 is the best etc.
That … is a complicated question haha. It’s a tossup between OSRS, GW2, and Classic WoW. To your question I have played Wizard101 and there is a video of my review on this channel :)
The majority of 2D MMOs are free to play, so it's the nature of the game unfortunately. The ones without p2w are mostly from the early 00's and late 90's. The rest well.. some are better than others, for example Ravendawn has a pretty fair monetization strategy.
39:30; did he just admit that if he gets sponsored for something he doesn't tell the truth/how he truly feels? >< And that's why I never trust reviews of products/games when people get them for free/sponsored from the devs/publishers.
Sorry for being honest and letting people know that I was previously sponsored by Dofus? Maybe in the future I just won't say anything. It's quite obvious to everyone that if a video your watching has a sponsorship, or a sporting event your watching has a sponsorship, or if someone is sponsored by a company for any reason at all that there is probably going to be some sort of clause within that contract saying "Don't be directly negative about the product were paying you to test" Funnily enough, I enjoyed the game and it's one of the higher ranked games on this video anyway.
he's a smaller youtuber of course he's not gunna be able to say what he wants, you'd have to have a fucking huge sub count for a company to decide that the exposure is enough to let you say whatever you want.... but you are still right, trusting sponsorships without actually looking for real reviews is a bad idea
@ he literally said only positive about dofus except ''I don't like turn based'', many negative things about heartwood yet still gave dofus B and heartwood A. Big bias.
Heartwood is a fantastic game, so is Dofus. The funny thing about what you call “bias” is actually just my opinion after a short time playing the game, Heartwood to me personally stays true to the MMO category and what I personally look for in games a bit more than Dofus, that’s my opinion. If that bothers you so much, I would suggest first of all not taking a random youtubers opinion so seriously, but also.. to lighten up a bit! This was just a fun video to make, no need to get so angry :)

IDLEON all day everyday! with 8,000+ hrs
cheeers very good video. I only came to watch this piece 30:49
bro how does this only 2.5k views, i havent watched it but i can guarantee this is gonna be one my favourite videos of his
Should add a list in description. Wonder if he did Conquer online. Or if I'll get far enough to find out, heh.
There is actually, because the video has chapters I have to put the name of each on in the description, check it out!
I did not try conquer online unfortunately
Knocking points off a game for an optional feature you aren't forced to use? Yeah, what a joke.
honey wake up new waydot vid dropped
was waiting for a maplestory review
phone both from doctor strange :D
ngl, I've unironically had fun playing heartwood online. sitting at 122 hours on steam
one of the thing with heartwood too is that melee weapons have the advantage of aoe. so you group together a bunch of enemies and clear packs as opposed to 1 on 1 with ranged
Hey Man, thanks for the video.
You should check out Endless Online some time, and Project Gorgon if you havent yet
Project Gorgon has been on my radar for quite some time, I really just gotta take the plunge
Giving AQW a D is crazy D:
At 35:05 I think you meant Dr. Who. Unless you were making a joke. ❤
Lmao oops i just completely misspoke 😂
Not gonna live this one down…
I came to the comments just to see if anyone said anything about it lol
Very surprised not to see elsword.
Thank you for the content in the time of need
Waydot!!! The OG, thank you for another banger vid. I really appreciate it!
you missed one fantasy online 2 he is in beta is not free and is a revival from fantasy online from a decade ago. the game shut down because they dev made events to make armor sprites and some were too close to other stuff and they got sued so he had to open bankruptcy and came back now to try again
I'm not sure about this one, I think a lot of the games didn't get a chance to shoot their shot... the format of the video doesn't really go hand in hand with how MMOs in general are - anyone who decides to stick with an MMO or not with just the tutorial section doesn't understand this genre IMO. I know it was supposed to be a first impressions thing, but when even LazyPeon's 5-10 hour first impressions don't feel like enough of a solid try, these 10-30 minute impressions feel way too damn short to me.
heartwood online still my best 2d game
1:29:48 Uhm... there was this _tiny_ thing about a cold or flu or something. I don't fully remember, but people really liked staying at home because of it.
LOL touche
have you tried melvor idle waydot? it's idle runescape, pretty solid
I've maxed my free account on Melvor LOL I really should just buy the thing. Solid game for sure.
Finally 'MapleStory' will get the recognition it des... 😭
Damn! I played so much dofus back in the day
Should look at Dungeon Fighter Online, you will like it
Phonebooth from Doctor Strange?😂
Holy Shit Ravendawn.
I played that at launch and for a few months after. Neat game... but I kinda hate the community around it lol.
If you wanna give tibia another try I can give you some assistance!
dude give tibia another chance, its good!
I know one no one ever knows about that I've not seen on any MMO list including that 250 MMO list that just came out.
The 4th Coming (T4C) Realmud Server
I'll look into it :)
@Waydots I played it for like 5-6 years
I see Graal Online is right where it belongs, not included.
the maplestory slander is crazzzyyyyyyyyy 😭
As someone who is nostalgic for MapleStory, it is objectively a horrible game. incredibly predatory in terms of psychological manipulation of their playerbase. Almost everything is time limited, uses multiple currencies to obscure true value, and usually isn't even permanent. Monetization like vac pets should be fucking illegal.
man i played TF outa bit heros that was a fun one
Watching someone who knows nothing about Maplestory is great cause he was so wrong about everything but damn if theres no way for him to ever know that lol
No Wakfu? C'mon man
Not being able to play DFO is disappointing.
What’s your favourite mmo of all time :0
Also try wizard 101 if you have not 😊
That … is a complicated question haha. It’s a tossup between OSRS, GW2, and Classic WoW.
To your question I have played Wizard101 and there is a video of my review on this channel :)
RotMG has some horrendous monetization from what I've heard
many of the ones he gave high ratings to are mtx/p2w heavy
The majority of 2D MMOs are free to play, so it's the nature of the game unfortunately. The ones without p2w are mostly from the early 00's and late 90's. The rest well.. some are better than others, for example Ravendawn has a pretty fair monetization strategy.
No dragon fable!
39:30; did he just admit that if he gets sponsored for something he doesn't tell the truth/how he truly feels? ><
And that's why I never trust reviews of products/games when people get them for free/sponsored from the devs/publishers.
Sorry for being honest and letting people know that I was previously sponsored by Dofus? Maybe in the future I just won't say anything.
It's quite obvious to everyone that if a video your watching has a sponsorship, or a sporting event your watching has a sponsorship, or if someone is sponsored by a company for any reason at all that there is probably going to be some sort of clause within that contract saying "Don't be directly negative about the product were paying you to test"
Funnily enough, I enjoyed the game and it's one of the higher ranked games on this video anyway.
he's a smaller youtuber of course he's not gunna be able to say what he wants, you'd have to have a fucking huge sub count for a company to decide that the exposure is enough to let you say whatever you want....
but you are still right, trusting sponsorships without actually looking for real reviews is a bad idea
Instant comment
Tibia is fantastic man
Looks like ppl can't read, the title says it, why are you upset?
How do you give ''A'' to a small, lacking in content MMO like heartwood but ''B'' to a 20 years old of content MMO like Dofus ? Yikes.
Because it was a first impression video, not a "play 100 hours and review" video. Yikes.
If you watch to the video you’ll see why. Unless you don’t have the basic level of comprehension to understand why.
Tibia for the win!!! 🙌🙌
he didnt even pass lvl 1 , nice "try" tho 😂
maple story is just bad
