Loved this. Marty was my great uncle. I want to say it was 1978 and I was probably 11, and Mart just played a show at Veterans Memorial Coliseum here in Phoenix. He came back to our house after the show for pie and to visit, and our house was on the corner of a major street. Well the tour bus is sitting outside our house and it's approaching midnight, and we get a knock on the door. It's the Phoenix Police and when we went outside, there were hundreds of cars blocking the street. Well, Mart went out and signed autographs and took pictures until everyone finally left. Something I'll never forget. Thought you might enjoy that little tidbit.
What a story to have of your great-uncle. Marty Robbins had the most beautiful singing voice in country music. He was a kind person too, that is how he wanted to be remembered. My husband and I will be buried in the same cemetery as he, his wife, and Webb Pierce too (each beautiful long markers), not far from their graves. My Daddy was a fan of his, buried there, my stepmother too. (George Jones is buried in this cemetery, on the other side, beautiful memorial monument.)
Wonderful story & Thank you for sharing it with us 🙏 I grew up listening to the great songs of your Great Uncle, as My Father absolutely loved him (Me too) I just about wore out Dad's old MR records on my tiny little turntable in my room, I loved "The Run'n Gun" My all-time favorite MR song is "El Paso City" Just something about those Mexican trumpets! 🔊🎶☺️ Stay safe & be well my friend, Thanks again for sharing 👋🤠
I met Marty Robbins at Talladega'79-'80 that roadrunner on photo was what he was driving, had a plaque Marty Robbins special on the dash. He let me sit in that car I was just a starry eyed kid but he had the personality of your favorite uncle and treated me like sold friend. Marty left this earth way to soon but he seemed to enjoy every minute of his life . For a little bit from Tuscaloosa Alabama I felt like I had a best friend driving .
Thanks everyone. I hope you all enjoyed this video. It was an assignment for college, and I'm not too happy with the audio quality, but I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I'm so happy to see everyone bringing up memories of Marty!
Hope you got an A for a grade! You get an A from me! I got to see Marty run at Dover Speedway in 1972. The announcer made sure everyone knew who was driving #42!
I was not a huge racing fan, not a huge country music fan for awhile, but I am now! I have always loved Marty Robbins' "Don't Worry" though. He did have the most beautiful singing voice in country music. He loved performing and it showed. He left way too soon, but the music he left.
Marty was a Great Guy. Kind and Full of Laughs.. Dad raced with him in Mobile Al in the 70's. He made his way to Mobile International Speedway as often as he could. I have a Photo of Dad and Marty in front of his stock car before a race. In 07, Our band did a Nashville tour. One day,we all decided to go see The Country Music Hall of Fame.. For those that don't know.. They have a Marty Robin's Room set up. It was Great. I spent a good while in there. Videod most of it. They have photos, albums, racing trophies, his helmet and race suit, his guitar and all kinds of stuff. It is a Beutiful Tribute to Marty. I highly recommend anyone that liked Marty to go do the tour. It is Well Worth it. You will not regret it.. Marty was such a Great man. As Down to Earth as anyone. RIP Marty.. Thank you for All The Great Music You left behind....
Great documentary Tyler. Marty Robbins was my hero and favorite Singer/songwriter. As I drove race cars and also played bass and sang in bands for many years, made me a huge fan of Marty in both of his careers. Marty was asked once why he didn't take his racing more serious (given his talent). Marty replied, ' If I won a Winston Cup Race, Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, & David Pearson would all get guitars. And I don't need any more competition in music where I make my living. By the way, Cotton Owens supplied and maintained most of Marty's Cup Cars over the years
Marty was also a Movie Star. He portrayed himself in a 1967 hit "HELL ON WHEELS". I believe I've seen him on the screen and /or tv programs in addition to his own show.
Marty was a credited Actor in Clint Eastwood's movie "Honky Tonk Man" Clint's young son was in the movie as well. Marty did a great job in the movie, he was a natural performer 👍
Ol' Marty, along with The Great Buck Owens was My Father's favorite singers & it certainly didn't hurt that Marty loved Stockcar Racing, as so did My Late Father, I badly miss them both 🙏
Ole DW tells of a time he was racing in Nashville. He was leading on old tires. Marty was running 2nd and had pitted for new ones. DW knew Marty was more than likely going to run him down with the better tires. DW said he drove harder than he ever had, constantly watching the mirror. When the race was over DW had won. He asked his Crew Chief "What happened to Marty?" Marty didnt pit for tires, he parked because he didnt want to be late for the Opry! They didnt tell DW because they didnt want him to get comfortable.... What a story.
One of my favorite country singers of all times!, I got to meet him and get his autograph in the 70's at a late model invitational in Odessa Missouri at the l-70 speedway!. There were about a dozen nascar drivers there and we hauled a late model out there from Columbus, ohio!. RIP MARTY YOUR ONE OF THE BEST!.
Marty was a Free Mason and a Shriner. I remember him and his Grand National (Cup) car owner Cotton Owens (Former G.N. National Champion) coming to Anderson Speedway (S.C.) for Shrine Races to help support the Hospitals for Crippled Children. Marty and Cotton were great guys.
First off let’s remember the great Marty Robbins was a country music star first and foremost!! Racing was just for fun but he was pretty good! Might have been successful if that was what he concentrated on!! Love these his car colors too!
I'm 58 now, but only remember him as a singer. I remember he raced but didn't know he was in cup. Nascar in Washington state in the late 60's and 70's was a 30 minute nascar show on Sunday night .
Gotta wonder how much longer Marty would have run had he not died when he did. He was 57, and even in those days, 57 was getting up there for most drivers.

Marty Robbins was the Man of Parts and my favourite Singer.👍 👍 Thanks Mr. Tyler for this video.

Clint's young son was in the movie as well. Marty did a great job in the movie, he was a natural performer 👍
He is a country and western legend, who did a bit of racing. He is most famous for singing / songwriting.
First live concert I ever attended was a Marty Robbins concert in Fresno Ca. probably 1966. He has been the standard for me
My Dad played steel guitar for him. A Stock car driver! From Arizona! The Best 🤠🇺🇸🐎🏁
Ol' Marty, along with The Great Buck Owens was My Father's favorite singers & it certainly didn't hurt that Marty loved Stockcar Racing, as so did My Late Father, I badly miss them both 🙏

Great stuff
That woman at the end is not Martys wife. I believe it is the woman who ran the Marty Robbins museum out in Arizona.
Noted.
You are correct. I see that another publication stated that pic was his wife, but it’s not.
Is the museum still open?
I ended that call that race the 420 I'm interested to know is there a behind-the-scene reason for 420 way back then
250 miles.
Although Getting baked and going to see a 420 race would be pretty funny to do.
The singer who could race
Well, marty robbins said himself he is a race car driver who just happened to be a country star.
haint racing musical? of course it is,,,every lap is another verse,,Mopars look good too
Title should Marty Robbins a singer thzt raced
Notice how there are no dislikes? keep it that way
In these "Woke" times UA-cam does not show the number of dislikes. One would hope there are few, if any.
🗽👍💕
Actually touched one of those cars in Springfield Ohio in a garage what a piece of junk
Holy crap! That is the ugliest race car I've ever seen. No offense to Mr. Robbins
