I have a love/hate relationship with Peach Girl. A lot of the conflict in the series could've easily been resolved with communicating and characters not running away whenever there's a misunderstanding. I ate that drama up when I watched Peach Girl growing up.

I have a love to hate relationship with Peach girl 😂
I used to enjoy it because I was also bullied for my dark tan... but her choosing the guy who threatened to unalive himself over the mentally, emotionally and overall stable guy who SHE herself knows she loves is so disappointing and disgusting.

This, I identified with Momo so much as a teen but rereading the manga a few days ago, I grew so irritated with how she kept constantly bouncing between Kairi and Toji. After a while it made her looks shallow as hell. Also, forgiving Sae after Sae put her life in danger countless times made me rage.

I do wish that momo just made some friends. It feels like the ONLY people in her life were her toxic love triangle and her nemesis. She needed friends fr, especially after everyone realized sai was being manipulative n stuff. Sai and momo were both friendless losers feeding off of each other and its soooo messy. I wanted to like momo so much as a kid bc she looked like me (i felt that way about any tan character tbh) but she i just had to stop feeling bad for her after a while

Sae and Ryo are possibly the most accurate depictions of psychopaths I've ever seen in any media. Look into them and that's how they really can be. Befriending them or appealing to their conscience doesn't work because they lack the emotions needed to have real friends or feel bad about doing terrible things. Yes, their behavior is terrible and gross but it's realistic in that regard and, yes, stupid manipulations by psychopaths can work like that in real life because most normal people find it difficult to imagine people can be that awful or lie that shamelessly. Maybe that's more unpleasantness than a lot of people want in a romance anime, but not stupid. Peach Girl Next, on the other hand, is an attempt to extend a story past where it needs to be told and is pretty awful. Should be avoided.

  • @ebifuon6776

As someone who was bullied I can say bullying from an entire class is plausible. People when seeing someone bullied they either try to be invisible or they join in so they themselves don't get bullied also. For me I somehow got on the bad side of the girl who happened to be the daughter of our elementary school principal (mother) and again later the daughter of the high school principal (father). So not to end up getting terrorized I got bullied by kids even from other classes even when they didn't even know my name. I pretty much became the isolated kid st school that no one became friends with because it was a sure fired way of getting bullied by the rest of the school. That changed in high school when I started hanging out with the Goths cause they didn't give two flips about being bullied and some even fought regularly with the jocks in school but yeah mass bullying does happen but isn't well translated in shojo comics all that well

Excellent video! You're easy to understand and it was easy to follow along with the story. I really like your voice, too; it's very quiet and calm :)
Side note: my aunt married a half-Hispanic man and all their kids are pale except for the youngest, who has a permanent tan because she spent so much time outdoors growing up. I didn't know that was a thing until I kept seeing her and started thinking "Has she...has she always been that tan?" Now she looks full Hispanic.

    • @xdani_thethinkingneko
      @xdani_thethinkingneko 8 місяців тому +21

It is mostly likely just because of how genetics work. Tanning is not going to permanently change your skin color, unless you get sun poisoning. I’m biracial with Peruvian and my cousin is much darker than me or my sister. That’s why you find people finding out they had black in their family because it will pop up generations later. (It was a common thing in the us for white passing people to lie about their race as a survival mechanism sadly)
Plus although we are taught we get half and half from our parents, it’s a little bit more complex than that. Some kids get more DNA from one parent versus the other. So she may just legitimately have a higher percentage of Hispanic DNA in her.

Peach girl is probably still my favourite romance anime, I adore Okayasu. I think it is because it didn't feel like a shojo, it was so messed up it felt like actual human relationships that are just tangled and messy. Okayasu and Momo and Sae seemed really tridimensional. Around the halfway mark of the anime I got really mind boggled by some reveals about Okayasu that completely shifted the plot (about how he never loved Momo and he was just coping cause of trauma) but they just made sense for a teenager and really shed another light upon his previous actions. After that halfway mark looking in retrospect, everything was different. The first half is still my favourite cause it feels more nostalgic, maybe cause I rewatched it more. I also watched it with my mom

Peach girl was one of my favourite animes as a pre teen girl and what originally introduced me to shoujo. I'll forever hold it dear to my heart but damn was it filled with unnecessary drama. I could never rewatch it now, otherwise I wouldn't have anymore hair left from pulling it from frustration.

Peach Girl was my very first manga set. My dad would buy me a new volume every two weeks. I finally finished the collection then my grandma went through them one dau and flipped out. Then proceeded to burn them. Never watched the anime but I was having such an emotional morning and finding this really helped lift my mood.

Oh god... I remember Peach Girl. My brother would buy these books that had different manga stories contained with a few chapters and it would continue the stories with more chapters if you buy the next release (forgot what it's called).
Of all of these stories I totally remember Peach Girl the most. It was something I regretted reading but with each release, I kept reading because well - Peach Girl is like trainwreck that you just can't look away from. No matter how much you try to ignore it, the disaster just builds and builds and you have to look back, wondering when the constant crashes are finally going to end.
Kinda like that Futurama joke, "I'm sending in more trains!"

As a kid I looooved this show every time it was airing on Funimation i would binge it crazy till the point my brother made fun of me about it 😭 but by the time I got into my preteens i started noticing the toxicity of the characters and the overall UNNECESSARY drama. This show is the reason why I hate love triangles 🤦🏽‍♀️ I wished they had just talk things out rather than running away or being swayed by others opinions. Sae most of all was the vain existence of my stress just watching this series. I hated Momo forgave her every time instead of literally just giving her a pieces of her own medicine and then some.

Thank you so much for your review on Peach Girl and its anime/manga franchise; Similar to what most were saying in the comments section that Peach Girl is a messy drama that has a lot of misunderstandings and that most of the problems could have been resolved if there was communication between the characters, I believe that peach girl had the potential to be a great show if the toxicity and misunderstandings were cut in half and if Momo didn't choose someone at the end. Momo needed a journey of self-healing, self-love, and a fresh start in life because even though she is the main character, she's been through too much heartbreak and pain. Toji and Kairi were not the best love interests for Momo because neither of them would communicate their problems to Momo, as for Sae, she's not a friend to anyone and always wants the spotlight. I felt that Sae was the main character in Peach Girl(the anime and manga) instead of Momo because when Momo has a few happy moments, all of that comes crashing down with Sae and her toxic nonsense and as you mentioned, anything that Momo has, Sae wants it as well. The good things I can say about Peach Girl are I love the fashion and art(from the manga), I love the music and soundtracks(although the only track the anime kept using was Toji's Jealousy), and I actually found the animation, a bit charming. Overall, Peach Girl(the manga and anime) is a 7 out of 10 for me, Peach Girl Next is a 5 out of 10 for me and Sae's side story is a 2 out of 10. I feel there needs to be a reboot for Peach Girl and side stories for Momo, Toji, Misao, Ryo, and Momo's three friends because even with the anime and manga series for Peach Girl, I felt that I didn't learn much about those characters. Here are some questions(everyone is welcome to answer them): Do you believe Peach Girl needs a reboot/season two in the future,? Do you think Peach Girl needs a sequel after Peach Girl Next? Do you think characters like Momo, Toji, Kairi, and others need their own side story? Your review provides valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of the Peach Girl franchise. Ps: Thank you for the shoutout

I like what you said about Momo’s good qualities. I’m light tan but very clearly not passing. I think this is part of why I like Momo too. I had an experience kinda similar to Momo when I was 5. But instead of it being about a boy, I was literally rejected from playing with a friend by her parents because of my skin color. It obviously made me aware that I wasn’t like the other kids…
I feel I have some of the same qualities as Momo but I’m not nearly as forgiving. But just because I don’t like you, doesn’t mean I’ll be mean to you, exclude you, or not defend you from bullies.
Also, I don’t like Toji either 😒 but I do like Misao. She’s flawed as we all are but she’s smart and kind.

I don’t know who is worse in Peach Girl. Sae for ruining Momo’s reputation or Toji for putting Sae in a porno without her consent. I feel like these two deserve each other because they’re both toxic.

this was such a wild ride 😂 I never watched Peach girl as a kid/teen mostly because in my mind this was more for grownups, the whole vibe this series gave for me was mature and wild teen vibes; as a 12 year old I favored other shoujo animes like Ouran High school, kimi ni todoke, etc. I remember seeing pictures of PG on forums and thinking “maybe later”. Thank god I never watched it but I can just imagine how stressed little me would’ve been lmao 😅
This whole story and characters are INSANEEEEE. I gasped multiple times and laughed out loud at some of the shit these characters did 😂 The drama is just like the mexican telenovela my aunts see.

Goodness, this woke up a few memories. I was too young for this funimation show, I did not know what was going on with the “filming” episode. Seeing that AND Sae’s pregnancy reveal to her boyfriend BEFORE ever seeing the first episode? Definitely shaped how I saw Sae. Still understood her emotional distress, even if I didn’t get the context for a long time. I wonder if seeing Degrassi around that age affected me a lot…
Another thing we can learn from Peach Girl? Young people need a mentor they can rely on, they can turn to. Ideally a parent or teacher. Momo and Sae’s parents were not really part of the story, and it made the drama a lot closer to a soap opera than it needed to. Another option? Show a healthy or UNhealthy relationship at Momo’s workplace! Somewhere she can think about her life’s drama without Sae around to pull wool over her eyes.

My best friend got me to watch Peach Girl and I knew I was in for a ride when Momo threatened to jump from that window in episode 3. The drama really does feel like it would've been great to eat up if you were reading the manga but as an anime the world is just so lonely and hostile for Momo. As far as the ending goes I think it should've been like Toradora where instead of getting together she decides to focus on her personal issues (take that with a grain of salt though Toradora is its own can of worms).
