Great review as always. Simple, concise but informative. I can't wait to see this film, glad you enjoyed it and hopefully I do as well!
Hope you enjoy it and appreciate you checking out my review.
The background of Demi moores character is irrelevant. She is the stand in for any and every woman who feels this way. I think looking for more realism from this movie is a mistake.
Exactly this! I feel like metaphor and satire is largely lost on most people now. Everyone just wants a straight forward narrative.
Good review bud. We watched last night. Very stylish, wild well-made film. Goes off rails in 3rd act in a good way. It definitely paid homage to Carrie and gave me vibes of the ending of the remake of Suspiria. Im glad they decided on practical effects too! It was its own thing for sure though and in my opinion a modern cult classic. Cheers!
Definitely a divisive of third act
Reminded me a little of requiem of a dream the way it was shot and how grim it was
@@christatum5715 definitely a good comparison
Loved the camera work, the colors, Demi and the first 2/3rds or so of the film ...then for somr reason it didn't hold me as strongly at the end.
Crazy ass ride of a film, film fans should see it and talk about it with friends...but i didnt love it start to stop.
Good review as always, you pointed out a few things i couldnt explain as cleanly as you did. I look forward to the talks this film will create
Yeah that ending will definitely be a breaking point for most.
Hey, Elliott! This was definitely a thrill ride in so many ways, especially with the performances, score, cinematography, and costumes.
However, I did have some of the same issues as far as the tone, and how it went about executing the core message with some of the body horror elements, especially at the end.
I also think ironically, "The Substance" was definitely lacking a good amount of substance in a lot of ways. Great commentary as always! 👌👌👌
Definitely a incredibly made film but definitely has its flaws and that ending still got me thinking lol
I agree with you. I really enjoyed the movie. The thing that confused me most was why would anyone want to use this substance? It seemed like a miserable experience.
Why do people risk their lives to get plastic surgery thinking it’ll make them look younger/hotter but it makes them look disfigured? The Substance is basically that
I don't understand that picture - unless I missed something in the moive - Sue's body was never sued up and it is Sue that we do see at the top right of the video ! Note: Don't people ever have to pay for the drug ? I loved your comments about the movie ! I always am unconfortable with seeing children in such movie (I'm referring about the little girl in the audience on the January 1st show hosted by Sue). I know that they are followed by professioanls while doing these movies etc but still....
The movie was mostly powerfully horrifying, but the ending, despite being spectacularly gory, did drag. I figured this would be 1hr 50 min movie, but it's 2 hr 20 min or so.
That was hard to watch because it could have been much better! It went from decent plot into a Stephen King meets Tarantino ending…. Could have been a good cautionary tale but missed the mark in the 3rd Act😢
I had a good time with this movie. The over the top ending kind of reminded me a bit of Society (1989 ) 😮 🤢 😂
Like many drugs, it has no benefits to the user, but once you’re hooked to it, you don’t care.
I went in expecting this movie to be amazing from the reviews I read, a lot of people fell in love with it. Personally I enjoyed it up until the 3rd act, but because of all the closeups on a big screen, i felt unwell, the gore was so over the top it and zoomed in, it made me dizzy and nauseous, had to hold the wall and breathe after i left the theater hahha
For men too. Remember, it was a male user that told Elisabeth about The Substance.
Keep hearing good/ great thing about this film I really wanna see it, and how you describe all those film I love for together and had a baby it would be this movie I definitely wanna see it now. Thanks
@@lalauninterrupted2086 It is definitely worth checking out just for the sake of how insane it is 🤣 appreciate you watching my video.
I liked it...the ending though 😮😂
That ending was wild 🤣
Hi Elliot. Your reviews are like watching a movie. Loving the special effects ❤
Thanks so much!
One thing overlooked in a lot of these online reviews: Did the voice of the "Customer Service Rep" on the phone sound like Dennis Quaid? It sure would explain why his character was so amenable to working with Sue's odd 7-day on and 7-day off schedule. A schedule like that would never fly in Hollywood, which hints that Harvey is the voice on the other end of the phone. This also deepens the evil underneath Harvey's character
Ooh I didn’t think of that
@@bryanalstoncoxing actually i checked imdb and there is another actor cited as the voice, so, never mind
Your face on the thumbnail 😂 I’m gonna check out the movie too
Great initially, dreadful ending 😢
They could’ve ended it about 20 minutes earlier. Also, Qualley isn’t believable as “hot” with the teeth she has. Every time she smiles it takes me out of the idea of her.
@@MassillonObie Yeah the film definitely was way too long
With the popularity of veneers I think people will appreciate seeing real teeth on screen especially as time goes it wouldn't bother anyone
That’s called a personal preference my friend. You not thinking she’s hot doesn’t change the message or the perception of her
