    Good advice. As a youngster I built my own rods because I couldn't find what I wanted. For estauary/river fishing I use a 7 foot rod I made out of a lamiglas blank (I cut the base off a longer heavier blank) with silicon guides and fuji reel seat. Its about 40 years old now and still performs like new. I have replaced guide sets on 3 occasions. I learnt binding from some well known rod makers back in the 80's in Sydney. You are correct that today rods are far more numerous and generally better quality. I only build bamboo fly rods now because they are too expensive to buy but cheap to make.

      No worries! Yes, it's pretty good, especially on rocky structure. A little less so on timber, but always worth a try.

    Agree with that. I chase everything from Billfish to Blackfish, and I reckon your tackle selection for Bream is more important than any other species.

    I 100% agree with you about rod lengths. I almost always used a 6'6" rod for close quarters bream fishing. Something like a Brawler from Miller or Docks from Duff. These day I don't often have a rod less than 7' in my hand and even use a 7'6" rod in close quarters for crab lures to get that shock absorption. I still hold nostalgic feelings for the old rods.

    What a great topic Starlo, my fishing rods has been one thing that I have evolved over the years I have been fishing. Learning about different lures and techniques and then matching that to a technique specific rod I defiantly understand the benefit of using the right tool for the job. 💜🎣

    I can't rate the Zodias highly enough for this kind of fishing as well as Bass to be honest, especially the 268L 2-6lb specifically. I've come to the conclusion that the Zodias is THE best value rod on the market in any price range.
    It can cast as far (if not further) than a T curve premium, it's a bit stiffer so can walk some bigger cicada lures yet it is also light enough to flick small lures like a 48mm Daiwa Double Clutch a bloody long way. I'm honestly looking at ditching some of my higher end rods worth $500-600 and replace them all with the Zodias.

    I've always used zodias/stradic combo. But decided a few months ago to upgrade to the twin power/ poison Andrea combo I have to say the more money you spend definitely the better response and better hookup you get!

    Hey Starlo, you pour so much info into your vids, thankyou so much for sharing your knowledge with everyone, l just purchased a tcurve 745 1-4kg and matched it with a 1000 vanford for a light set up for flicking lures in the eustery, what are your thoughts on it, should it do the trick. Also what size braid would you put on it,
    Thanks for another great lesson, Cheers 🎣🎣

      Glad you like them! Sounds like a lovely outfit. I reckon I'd put 4 or 6 pound braid on that. I certainly wouldn't go heavier than 8 pound, remembering that braid tends to break well over its rated strength. Tight Lines!

      Thanks for that! Could be a difference in the "modulus" or speed of recovery of the two rods. Are they different makes? Use what you're most comfortable with, but don't give up on that 7-footer too soon. 👍

    A quality rod is necessarily an expensive 1 have got an original Shimano Jewel 3-5kg 6'8" had it since they were released & caught everything from trout bass huge carp bream flattys jewies anything else you can find in river creek dam or lake only put old faithful up on the rack the other week after possibly done a million casts & yes she deserves a rest but can grab her anytime she's good to go, did take me 2yrs to rest her up!😅

    Hi Steve could i get your opinion on the Shimano tcurve premium 702 2-5kg and can i throw a 10 gram Samaki vibe with it. The rod is paired with a 2000 Vanford spooled with 6lb Kairiki braid and 6lb flouro leader. Thank you.

    I'm wondering what model of the zodias to get. I was think the 270L or the 270ML and can't decide between them. I am based usually in melbourne or in cairns. I need a rod that can handle small gts up north but still be sensitive enough for bream down south. If none of these models are fit for this role can you recommend some?

    • @StarloGetsReel
      @StarloGetsReel  9 місяців тому +2

      I think the ML will be great in that role.

    Hi Starlo! I was looking at purchasing a new rod in the zodias line and I am tossing up between a ML or L set up 6"8". I am targeting Bream and flathead. What is the best option? I have a vanford 2500 to pair with it. PLEASE HELP!

    • @StarloGetsReel
      @StarloGetsReel  Рік тому +1

      Either rod would be great but if you want to throw a few bigger lures, especially for those flatties, I’d choose the ML.

    Would my recent purchase, an Atomic Arrowz Bream Crank rod fit the criteria? I know it’s a specialised rod for Crank Baiting and I want to learn how to use it, for what it’s made. I’d be curious how you would rate it.

    • @StarloGetsReel
      @StarloGetsReel  6 днів тому

      It doesn’t seem to say. To be honest I never take much notice of that stuff anyway. I cast anything from “unweighted” (well under a gram) to about 6 or 7 grams off mine.
