They look great! Those rims are one of my favorites. I think they look better than the stock rims I have on my '99. Everyone seems to agree that those Michelins are the way to go. I have similar tires on mine. I put 800+ miles on mine driving out to Vegas and then driving the 167 to lake Mead. Great road! Oh, and I think all the self respecting Liverpool drug dealers are running 20's by now.
Great improvement good choice. Mine are on 911 Carrera 996 C1 CAB: Rear - Michelin Pilot Sport N4 295/30ZR18(98Y) Front - Michelin Pilot Sport N4 235/40ZR18(95Y)
I went with Pirelli P Zeroes 235 / 35 19 FRONT and 305/30 19 REAR Huge difference. Smoother ride and the rear looks beefier with a more aggressive stance. I had 295 in the rear before that looked stretched out with almost no side wall. Did not enjoy driving the car with the tires I had on before.
As always, Porsche knows best. The change of wheels has made an enormous difference and moving to an 18 inch wheels will always improve the ride quality. The black wheels made the car look ugly, and down at heel. It looked like the original tyres were a low quality American brand. The Michelin's should transform the driving experience completely - good choice. I would suggest next you hunt down some seats that match the rest of the interior. After that, you have a really nice well sorted car. All in all, I think the car has been transformed.
When I found a Cayman S back in 2010 equipped with the items I preferred with the exception of the 19" wheels and tires. The dealer accommodated me by swapping to the 18" wheel and tire setup I wanted. The 19" wheel package just rides to rough and 17" make for a good winter setup along with the softest ride quality. I think you made a good choice and will enjoy your 911 even more now.
Well Finn, we've had a similar journey. I had the classic Carrera 18" wheels like the ones you bought. I didn't like the harsh ride so found some 18" "Italian Fuchs". Because the hub area is joined with the wheel rim almost continuously, the force coming up from the road is distributed more evenly around the wheel before the hub and into the car. The difference in ride comfort was dramatic and immediate. I love the 18" Fuchs and they also give my car just a touch of the "retro" look that I loved with the old '80's and '90's black centered Fuchs wheels. I don't doubt that your new 18's are better than the 19's that you had, but you can get an even better ride with the 18" Fuchs. Oh and...lose the QR code on the door!
wow, i didn't expect the Fuchs wheels to have a better ride than the classic Carrera. I'm on classic Carrera 19" and looking to move to 18". Was considering the BBS LM and the Fuchs. This is good feedback. Thanks.
@@daniel1967hkc It really does make a big difference to have the "spokes" have a large area of attachment to the rim. Having just 5 narrow attachments like the classic carrera wheels drives a lot of force right into the hub and so right into the car. No bueno!
Wooo hoo, what a transformation Finn! I thought you'd find a massive difference between then! Now you can experience the car as it was built to be 😀 Looking forward to watching your adventures in 2023.
You're gonna love those tires! Especially all four days of the year it rains in your area :) Wheels look great, those 19s were too big (I don't mind the black, personally) I'd go with 285/30 in the rear next time around, which was a factory size; maybe 295/30 with 235/40 in the front. I run that size, and the speedo actually reads correctly! Also, now you'll have to upgrade to M030 factory or Bilstein equivalent (B6) suspension to drop the wheel gap! Or just go to a B16 coilover kit! 😁
Your old rear tires at 285/35/19 were wayyy too tall sidewall for 19s. Most guys with 996s and 19s run 285/30/19. Your rears were a full 1.5” diameter larger than the front. Which likely made them look awkward. Agree, silver on silver is classic.
Porsche spent a lot of money and time figuring out what size tire/wheel works well on the street. Track days may require a different size depending on the skill of the driver but for the street stock size works good for me and probably for you too. 2001 Carrera 4 6spd.
Porsche also offered that size of wheel as a factory option in the Turbo Twist design, so I reckon they were pretty happy with any effects on the vehicle’s dynamics. 🤷🏻♂️
Would have been interesting to compare weights on the rear wheels. Dropping to a smaller tire & rim, maybe you lowered "unsprung weight" which could improve ride, acceleration, etc. Maybe they still have them somewhere to weigh?
I actually don't mind them, but they don't look great on that car. Maybe a 997 or 987 in guard's red. The silver ones do look much better on your car, but I guess I'm just not terribly picky.
As to be expected, the only two people that said they liked the black rims were to two people I asked on the day I changed them 😂🤣. Black rims look cool on some cars, its kinda modern etc. On this 911 I felt they made the car look crappy and ride even worse. Thank you for watching 🤘😎
Looks 10 times better. I’m also a bit of a purist, so that makes them even better.
Thank you for watching 🤘😎
Looks awesome. Much better. Now you should add the M030 suspension. Which makes it even more fun to drive. Full setup is around 1,500€ I think.
They look great. Those tyres are brilliant .
Nice I wear pirelli on stock Porsche rims. Love the ride feel.
Big improvement in my opinion..
Love the 18 inch on these, better ride and handling
Thanks! 🔝👍
100% improvement
There’s no way .3% liked those 19” wheels.😂
Coilovers next?
Thank you for watching Phil! 🤘😎
Personally, I wouldn’t go to anything above 18 for 996. The car now looks amazing to me :)
Atta boy. Carrera 2 are among my favorite factory options, well chosen. Would have been interesting to weigh them and compare to the 19s.
Another good video Finn. You've definitely done the right thing. I have 18 inch on my car, they work great.
Improvement to the 996 imho! 😊

Mine are on 911 Carrera 996 C1 CAB:

295/30ZR18(98Y)
Front - Michelin Pilot Sport N4
235/40ZR18(95Y)
Hi, Finn . Good chioce. The car wins a lot of with this wheels. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👌🏻. Beautiful porsche 996 !!!!
I went with Pirelli P Zeroes 235 / 35 19 FRONT and 305/30 19 REAR
Huge difference. Smoother ride and the rear looks beefier with a more aggressive stance.

Good to know! Thank you for watching 🤘😎

Love the new wheels
In a sea of black wheels, it’s nice to see some classic silver ones. Looking forward to the next update.
Thank you Edward! Wishing you happy passengers & clear sky's 🤘😎
They look much better.
Black wheels look pants on any car in my own opinion. I had those silver five spokes on my 997. Timeless look and easy too clean.
Looks good man! You do a nice job!
They look great, a big improvement - classy. 👌 Ps. A quality tire dressing would make them pop even more. Pps. Really enjoyed this series, thank you!
They look very sharp
Thank you John 🙌

That's interesting to hear Warren, that certainly lines up with my experience in this video. Thank you for watching and contributing 🤘😎

Looks great, much better. Do these tires have Porsche N-coding (approval)?
Looks way better!! Do you know the specs of these wheels?
18x8-et57 and 18x10-et57

Exactly.
This experience really drove home how “cool upgrades” can make a car quantifiably worse 🤣😂 Thank you for watching! 🤘😎
Would drive even better on 17-inch factory Twists.

Maybe they still have them somewhere to weigh?
Much nicer, in my opinion. I'm running stock sizes 225x40-18 & 265x35-18 as it's an early car. Do you know the offsets and width of those rims?
Difference is fantastic! Looks like a real Porsche now🤣 no more scouse drug dealer 🤣
Did u fix the scratches?
Did you notice the strategically placed QR Code and Tramp Stamp? 🤓
@@ManinaGarage yes i did haha

Looks are subjective, the better handling is undeniable! 🏎💨💨 Thank you for watching! 🤘😎
what is your day job?
Hello Bob, I don’t talk about that on the channel. Certainly not a mechanic.
No self respecting Liverpool drug dealer would be seen dead in a 996
More like a gt3rs 🤣😉
You got that right! 🤣😂
Black rim’s sucks ….

Lipstick on a pig..... It is still the world's ugliest Porsche, the 996 should have been erased from history.
