71 years of age, dodgy knees and just in from 17000 steps up and around the Wrekin (our local hill). I feel great mentally and pretty good physically. Each to their own...
That's a great walk! 😊 Excellent getting the heart going on the way up, walking up and down the lumps and bumps at the top, then working those knees going down, especially if they are dodgy! The views from the top add to the health benefits
Well good effort, but they were talking about consistent rather than one off walking. I am 68 and my longest one day walk this year was incidentally 58000 steps (44.5km)
I was doing an average of 25k steps a day for 6 weeks and I lost a little over 3 kilos during that time and I didn't change my diet or the lot. And I am always mentally and physically refreshed after doing so. To each his own, I guess.
What worked for me is exercise and diet, I started working out when I was 18 in 1974 my late brother got me into working out then I had to work on getting the diet right because I was young and I was eating everything but I didn't gain any weight back then I was 6'2'' 154 pounds, very skinny basketball player at 18 years old then when I got in my late 20s and 30s I started picking up weight then at the age of 35 I was weighting 210 pounds and stayed at that weight until I got in my mid 50's then my weight blew up to 240 pounds then ended up with diabetes type 2 my doctor told me to lose the weight so what I started during was to add the treadmill to my work out and completely changed my diet to health food, spinach, Broccoli, bake foods, no red meat, no pork or fried foods or processed foods, drink plenty of water no juices or sodas, my weight right now is 198 pounds and I am feeling great, I did the treadmill for 30 mins 6 times a week and took off 50 pounds at the time, at the age of 68 I am feeling great, I do bike riding, can walk 5 miles with no problem, this year makes 50 years that I started working out, I thank the Lord Jesus for giving me the strength to keep going, you can do the same thing all it takes is a made up mind to want to better your healthy it's up to you God bless you.
Walking outside is really good for your mental and emotional well being too. Yeah you can go to the gym if you don't have enough time to walk outside, but there is nothing as beneficial for your mental and emotional wellbeing as going outside and walking around people.
I got rid of my car at age 50. 16 years later, I am healthy, fit. and slim. I bring home only what I can carry from the market, so I choose wisely. Cars make humans fat and lazy.

Walking energises me, gives me time to think, and I sleep better that evening.

I feel friggin awesome after a long walk so thats enough evidence for me!
A great suggestion, walking on the beach at the beginning. Walking on sand, wet or dry offers a greater challenge for the body.

Rather than target a number, enjoy the process. Do an exercise that you like every and one day break/week
I think this is the best thing to do 👍🏻👏🏻

I managed to do this last year. I just shifted the fridge a few feet away. woohoo 10,000 steps a year. Feels so good. Though not as good as cake.

Intermittent fasting and avoiding highly-processed foods/ drinks are more important than walking, to stay healthy
You need both a healthy diet AND some sort of regular exercise. Doing just one is ofc better than none, but the best is to do both.
