THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I removed the wiring harness and did not see anything that may cause a short. I had no clue what direction to go in order to pinpoint the problem. You saved me SO MUCH TIME AND $$. BEST POST EVER!

I had this issue with the blown M28 fuse. Sometimes it would blow right after I started the motor, and sometimes it would run for an hour. The last time it changed the fuse, it started up, but the battery light stayed on. All the electronics worked, so I figured the batt light was just a symptom of the twisted logic going on. Since I was in the middle of nowhere, I drove on down the road. After about an hour with no other problems, the A/C suddenly started blowing hot air, and the transmission shifted to low. After sitting for a few minutes, I decided to give it another try, but it wouldn't shift out of first gear so I called for a tow. After getting towed to my destination, I bought a multimeter, and tested the battery at about 11.5 volts. Then I started the motor and watched the voltage steadily drop, so it seemed obvious it was the alternator. I bought the last alternator at the parts store, and installed it (not an easy job on this van), and have had no issues since. If you're blowing M28, as JM says, consider the alternator. BTW, I have the fuel pump relay bypass, and it's always worked great.

I'm so mad a Chrysler! My 2011 Town and Country has been in the shop 12 times in one year!!! I'm a 54 year old female who, before this vehicle, didn't think I'd have to get an auto mechanic certification just to start my vehicle.
I've watched hours, and hours, and hours, and hours of videos in order to find out what's wrong with my van.
This search for an answer and repair has made me physically sick and mentally exhausted over and over. It's all I think about.
My days and nights are consumed with confusion... thinking, thanking, thinking. As soon as I think I see some hope in the next repair, video, or mechanic's words, it all crashes before my eyes, then back to the drawing board.
I've seen 5 different mechanics who were all pretty confident that they could find the root of the problem(S). I've heard from the majority of them... explatives on what they'd like to do with my van.
I've lost employment twice over this. I started watching videos from Scanner Danner, Scotty Kilmer, Online Mechanics Guide, 1A Auto, South Main Auto Repair (my personal favorite), and a host of other UA-cam mechanics (including you... thanks.).
This van has beaten me down and it's taken all of my money. I can't afford another because of all of the money that this heap of garbage has taken from me; and I wouldn't sell this to anyone else because I wouldn't be able to sleep knowing that I just sold this much grief to anybody else.
My van has died 3 times while I was driving it on the freeway. Sometimes my backup camera works, sometimes not. It'll start when it wants. The Traction Control light, ABS light, and Check Engine lights like to come on interchangeably when I can't start my vehicle or when it dies on the freeway (but they don't come on all the time, so there's nothing reliable about the mils, not the actual van (in my most HUMBLE opinion.).
I have acceleration problems. There are no codes accept P0340 (camshaft position sensor). One mechanic put in a catalytic convertor for $1200. I didn't realize until months later that a catalytic convertor has nothing to do with a P0340 code. Since I'm not a mechanic, I didn't know what to ask, nor the logic behind the installation of that part without a supporting code.
Boy have I learned tons since then!!
I've had 3 camshaft position sensors installed (one of them by me), two crank sensors, two starters, spark plugs, oil filter resevoir (cooler), rear brakes, tie rod, steering, thermostat, plenum gasket, air filter, and the list goes on.
I put in a camshaft position sensor, ground strap, and a throttle body myself, and believe me... very carefully.
There's been so many replaced parts that I've lost track of all of the installs. I've asked every mechanic to look at the wiring harness, but I'll never know for sure whether it was looked at or not. Guess what... yeah... now I'm learning all about electrical, auto- electric schematics, and the tools used in order to get my brain moving in the many directions that are obviously required to get to the bottom of this "2011 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY 3.6 NIGHTMARE (in my opinion)".
I know I'm ranting, but I'm beyond frustrated. I've cried and cried and cried just because I'm so frustrated, angry, and it hurts to keep bumping my head day after day after day.
I have already had a fuel pump bypass installed. My car didn't start when I went to pick it up from the mechanic. My car also didn't start the same days that each of the new starters were installed.
Oh, did I mention that when I took it to the dealership, they couldn't replicate the problem, but they asked me if I wanted an oil change. When I came to pickup my car, they said "no charge for the oil change. I thought it was awfully nice of a dealership to not charge me for a 6000 mile synthetic oilchange, UNTIL I noticed my car was acting worse than ever. I took it to another mechanic and asked them to check my car out. They sent me a photo of a spring stuck to my engine (which apparently was supposed to be inside the oil filter housing resevoir). They had also smushed a oil filter in that doesn't fix my car, which in turn broke the oil filter resevoir housing cap. I had to get a whole new oil resevoir housing... another expensive install.
My van has been towed several times in a year. It was most frustrating when I had to have it towed out of a parking structure at a hospital.
My insurance company has sent me a nice letter stating that they'll only cover $1000 worth of tows and roadside assistance (although I purchased the premium towing package... gee... what ever gave me the indication that I'd need the premium towing package for my vehicle? One will never know.).
Today, I have my TIPM sitting on the kitchen table. I'm dieing to pit in a new fuel pump relay. I know what's entailed, and I have the correct desoldering tools, but I also don't think I could handle the letdown if my attempts fail. If I had another vehicle, I'd probably make a couple hundred videos on the problems with my van. Aren't minivans designed with the safety of families in mind???
So, I've called tipmrebuilders.com. I have a work order placed. Now it's just a matter of paying for another repair. I hope it helps me. I suspect the TIPM, PCM, the ignition control module and perhaps the cam phasers, but gosh I hope not.
I liked your video. You better believe that I went over to my kitchen table to check the M28 fuse. Hey, ya never know. I've found where there is one gremlin found, there are usually at least a family of them following.

I have a 2011 town and country, it was first starting to roll smoke out of the alternator, so I replaced the alternator with a reman, still doesn't charge, I am going to go check m28 fuse now to see if that's the problem.

i am having the same issue M28 fuse blowing .. and its the alternator ... the mechanic told me it was not .. and when the battery light came on again i said.. test it again and true enough it was the alternator as my battery volts was only 12.2V

  • @myviews469
    @myviews469 8 місяців тому

So are you saying that M28 controls the part in the PCM that controls alternator?

So my Dodge caravan 2013 is having the same problems. Turns on then shuts off after 3 seconds. It died once while driving, but I have a new battery. Was the end result just really the alternator?
