  • This video is based on my trip to Deeg Palace Bharatpur(डीग महल) which is situated in Deeg, Rajasthan. Deeg Palace fountains(जल महल डीग भरतपुर) are quite famous and large number of tourists come to see them during Deeg Braj Mahotsav. Deeg Palace song can be heard at that time inside this Deeg Mahal Rajasthan(डीग का महल). In this video, we will know about Deeg Palace History in Hindi.
Deeg Palace is known to be a Palace in Deeg city & 32 km from Bharatpur city in Deeg District in Rajasthan, India. It is built in the year 1772 as a luxurious summer resort Bharatpur State jat rulers. The palace was used by the kinds till early 1970s. Deeg Palace is the known to be the only palace of Hindu style in the whole Northern India
Deeg was known to be the capital of the Jat kings before they actually shifted to Bharatpur. Badan Singh, who became king in 1721, constructed a palace here. Because of its strategic location and closeness to Agra, Deeg used to face a lot of attacks by invaders. His son, Suraj Mal, started the construction of a fortress around the palace in the year 1730. The fort had huge walls and a deep moat to make the raiders away.
Deeg was known to be a site of a legendary battle between the Jats as well as a combined Mughal and Maratha army of around 8,000 soldiers. After his victory, Suraj Mal started making forays into enemy territories. After his 8 years success, Suraj Mal captured Delhi and looted the Red Fort and carried masses of valuable items including a complete marble building, which was dismantled and numbered. After that the palace was reconstructed at Deeg.
The Jat rulers were known to be influenced by the magnificence of the Mughal courts of Agra as well as Delhi. The design of the gardens in this palace is been inspired by the Mughal Charbagh style. The palace actually forms a quadrangle with a beautiful garden and walkways at its centre. You will also see decorative flowerbeds, shrubs, trees and fountains, which used to cool the place considerably during summer season. Two huge water tanks, Gopal Sagar and Rup Sagar, are present on either side, which also helped to bring down the temperature.
Keshav Bhawan, also known as the monsoon pavilion, is known to be a single-storeyed baradari placed on an octagonal base. It is located next to the Rup Sagar lake. The edifice has a total of five arches along each side which divides it in to different parts. An arcade runs along the interior of the pavilion over a canal which has a number of fountains. The walls of the canal are being pierced with hundreds of small water jets. Bullocks were used with large leather "buckets" for drawing water to the tank through an extremely complex pulley system.
In the Holi festival, colours are added to the water. A number of small cloth pouches with organic colours are manually inserted into the holes in the wall of the reservoir. When the water flows through them, it passes along an intricate pipeline network, the fountains then sprout coloured water.
The fountain spray as well as the jets create a monsoon-like ambience which is enhanced by a technique that actually produces thunder-like sound all over the pavilion. A huge number of of metal balls were placed strategically on the channel all around the roof which are set rolling with the water pressure which actually results in a thunderous effect. The ambience within in a desert town must have been significant for the Jat kings as well as queens.
King's bedroom consists of an huge black granite bed for the Maharaja. It was earlier used as part of Parsi death rites, and was used as a platform for washing dead bodies.
In relation to Deeg fort it is written in Intakakhbutwarikh -
"Deeg and Delhi were at that time the center of equal beauty and trade, Deeg was the first class among the protected places of fortifications of India."
Deeg Palace remains open from 9 am to 5 pm except on Fridays. The nearest airports from Deeg are at Agra (70 km) and Delhi (200 km). The nearest railhead is known to be Deeg Railway Station itself situated on Mathura -Alwar route.
Deeg is at a distance of about four hours by road from Delhi, two hours from Agra and one hour from Mathura.
February and March are known to be the best months to watch this lovely garden-palace, Suraj Mals fairy creation, at its best; when all the colorful the fountains are playing, the flowering bushes are coming out, the roses in the parterres are in full bloom, and the soft cool green of the mango, jaman, amalaka, and neem trees has not yet been spoiled by the hot, dusty winds of the Indian spring.
