We're a predatory species, we enjoy the hunt, the feed and the kill." I remember cheering him on in that episode, as I was so so sick of judgy Bonnie and judgy Stefan trying to guilt trip Elena for needing to freaking eat, whereas Damon just shows her, 'hey, you can feed on a rapist and you don't even need to kill him, how about that?' He says at one point "I don't mind being the bad guy. I'll make all the tough decisions and I'll even let Elena hate me, but at the end of the day, I'll be the one to keep her alive." He doesn't sit wringing his hands and wallowing in guilt because he understands his place in the food chain, can feed without killing, but will kill to protect those he loves without hesitation. He's absolutely the one I'd want on my team in a crisis. Also for all the laughs.
