It also shows that damon really cares for Elena and is kind of torn apart in terms of how to act when she's with him. Also think of that Scene when damon tells her, he loves her and then compells her. That's not nice either, but he just cannot tell her. Whereas Stefan tries always to be extra self controled and sometimes seems kind of stiff because of that. Damon is pure Emotions. And i like that :)
