About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on UA-cam videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

I just love your channel. You are doing such a great job.
Hi..... Jason, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🐖🌱🎥👍👍👍
Best ending. thank you
Good work for family of three. Takes a team who know the task and their goals.
Always building things.. love it 💚🌱💚
Thanks for the blackout! Awesome Vlog!
Your pig look great. The cleanest pigs I can remember seeing. Great job guys.
Great job! Hard work pays off. There’s always something to do, right?
An idea: when you finish the coop put the chicks in there first, then after a couple of days, put the older birds in there so they don't attack the babies. It will make a situation where you are putting the older birds in the chicks' home and they will be nice to the homeowners (the chicks). Also, put the older birds in the coop at night after dark, so the transfer goes smoother.
Got my Berniece Tshirt. Love it! Thanks for all your videos. We have learned so much from you.
You rock!
Bernice is becoming a mega star! 🐓 And those social distancing ducks!
Excited to see what the new project will be! Lorraine is always trending women's garden style. Love it! A new coop for the homestead will be nice for having more eggs! Stay healthy!
The. Brother’s are looking awesome😃👍🏼 Would love for Lorraine to do a garden tour and talk about what’s going, lessons already learned from starting seedlings, types, what she still wants to plant? Will you be planning for a winter garden?
Received my sow the land hat a few days ago, Thank You!
You can run an electric line from one pen to another using one wire and a few electric fence posts. This way one charger can charge all your pens. Make a big outside square and then run a line from this outside square to each individual pen on the inside so you won't have wires cris-crossing your property. Most chargers will charge several miles of wire.
Thank you for the blackout. ❤️
Sometimes it just takes a little extra time...
Have a good evening 🌻🌻🌻
I think I would like to do a permanent coop in our Woods. I think Casey & Tori raise their chickens in the woods. I like yours on the hill too. It will be perfect there!!!😊🐔🐔🐔
It's tough to mix the young with the old. I have them separated in the same chicken tractor but different areas. The younger birds won't come out if the older birds are around. They power drive peck them.
One of the things I'm happiest about in my permanent little coop is poop boards. My roost bars are over the nest boxes (milk crates on the floor) so I put in poop boards under the roost to make it easy to clean and keep poop out of the nest boxes. I use 2 cat litter rakes and slide the poop off with one rake into the other and toss it into a trash can composter sitting next to the coop. I use shredded cardboard for litter in the bottom of the coop and throw some up on the poop boards to soak up the wet stuff. I rake off the poop boards every day when I feed them and collect eggs. My coop never stinks and I never have to do a gross poop build up clean out.
I love the coop the missy is the one that needs to put the cuttie touches jason.... LOL. Love it
They are so well behaved the Bacon Brothers are they❤️🐷
Really beautiful ending
Well y'all there's a new shirt idea: "Penelope's Pumpkin Patch" Orange shirt, green letters and outline of a pumpkin?
Miss Penelope’s Piggy Prepped Pumpkin Patch. The brothers are growing fast.
Love your vlogs always something different and you always make me laugh ty xx
Glad you like them!
Depending on how much powder is in your feed, wetting can help the chickens get more of the food.
I am always excited to watch your videos.You..all always have interesting stuff going on the homestead. Your garden looks green and healthy . Your chickens are looking great also. Looking forward to see the chicken coop when it is finish.
Cook your left-overs that you use for slop, if possible. (Like you don't have enough to do...) They probably would have eaten the celery had it been cooked. You and Al Lumnah are my favorites for getting inspired to 'just get out there'. Love your stuff. Meanwhile, I have about 3 more yards of soil to sift, mix and spread, and I just scored 5 yards of wood chips for free!
The Brothers are looking awesome! I see a smoked ham in your future!
Pigs are looking good!
I just live vicariously through yall till that one day I eventually have my own little piece of heaven. container growing now and using every square inch I can
You can get insulated wire and clip it to your hog fence and just lay it across the ground to the chickens.
I'm gonna miss seeing the brothers! Justin's pigs were loud and crazy 😂 Your pigs are so calm!
yes, me too. thanks Kellie
I dont know what's wrong with me but the shots of those pig butts makes me smile every time 🙂
You are such a talented family! I wonder how is Penelope adjusting to homestead life? She seems so well adjusted. Any plans for her to have siblings? You can tell she lives in a very peaceful, loving home. Good to see her developing "PENELOPE'S PUMPKIN PATCH. Great teaching tool for her in so many ways. Continued success!.Thanks!! Say hi to Bernice and all the other bernices.lol
Love the ending. Respect.
Love your wood working skills! So excited for all the new things to come. The ending, beautiful and thank you ❤
Jason is a busy, busy guy, good job 👍👍
Looking good guys.
Everything is coming together great! That is going to be a nice coop for the birds. I'm interested in how you plan to do the roosting bars with the nesting boxes inside the coop. Also, I would definitely recommend a linoleum floor in the coop, makes cleaning so much easier.
The theory is that fermenting means they will eat less because they are able to absorb more nutrients ... so they're growth rate should be the same. If the grain is just wet that might be the problem.
🧡See, you don't need to mow the lawn, you've got birds. So as I watched Lorain water the garden I wondered if you've watched Jason Rhodes video about his sprinkler and experimented how long it would take to water his garden an inch of water and it took 2hrs on a specific sprinkler setting. just thought it would interest you.
Great idea to build on the hill.
Love this. No chickens on our ranch yet! Nice change for me from chasing around cattle and sheep! 🤣 cheers 🍻 from Prairie Sunset Ranch ☀️
Bacon Brothers! Love it!
Beautiful song one classy family
Inspired by you and your family. Got our first 6 chicks , 4 of which were killed by a ferral cat that got into the brooder through the dog door into our garage! One Barred Rock and 1 Buff Orpington were saved by our little dog! We replaced the murdered chicks right away with 4 California Whites. I happen to be building a hen house similar to yours right now. I’m following your progress and look forward to each vid!👍👍
Great job Jason ..
I just love how everything on your farm is so clean and tidy ..
Good morning beast sow the land jason UA-cam video canada Ontario 🇨🇦🇨🇦🍁
What a great family effort.
Your brothers have some nice hams! LOL!
Soaking and fermenting the feed should make it easier to digest. making it better for the bird and less on your feed bill.
Thanks again. We will be waiting patiently for the next one. With all that room in the new patch, do you grow any squash?
The ending was perfect.
Mark the depth you need with yellow paint on your suger bit. No need to constantly k.easure depth.😎
Thank You For Saying Hey and Good Morning to Bernice! and Dukes . :)
Great coop build. I have built quite a few similar to yours. I too "OVER build" the coops. Better to be strong and safe than build a shack that you have to rebuild again. Good job!
We COMPLETELY agree about feed soaking. We tried it and it's a MESS. I know plenty of folks use it with success, but I'm definitely not a fan.
Boy oh boy you are so busy. I'm working on still planting After a wet cold spring. Looking forward to a productive summer here in PDX, suburb. Don't like that the violence might reach here with the civil unrest....makes for uneasy times. PrYing lots, and blessing the land.
✊🏾 Thankyou for the blackout
Thank you for a lovely Vlog as always.... Loved your ending! 💖
I bought a Bernice coffee mug! Much Love & God Bless Ya'll
We are in the process of wrapping up our own poultry palace! We will do a video tour when we are done. Trying to automate it to the point of working a week without intervention!
One of my favorite channels👍🏻😁
Thank you for the ending! ❤️
Good ending 🙏🏼🥰
Love your videos!
💖 watching u make building look easy.
I love Bernice🐷🐓🐤
Jason, I'm not sure what size charger you have but premier one has a jumper wire you can use to do 2 fences at one time off one charger.
I ordered a 100’ of wire and spliced a clip on to it and I run two fences off of my intelashock 60. Works great both fence are at 8000mv. If the freedom rangers are within 100’ it should work great.
Jason , consider building rollout nesting boxes , cleaner eggs easier to collect
Your building projects always amazes me. Love how you and family work as a team. Homestead is looking amazing
Very cool.
I'm looking forward to your coop video because instead of three chickens, I have 18 and the little mobile coop may be too small although they all see to huddle together at the back of the coop. I'd like your take on your coop build. I'm on rock and can't drill but I can build on cement forms of some type. You're place is looking so awesome Jason and Lorraine... I'm always so impressed at all your hard work and trying different things. I appreciate your videos a lot. Keep up the good work 👍👌❣️
that new chicken coup looks like a tiny house..so nice..you guys make me happy watching your family..love you all and stay healthy.
Also, if you're new to the channel Jason will never catch the ducks :-) I loved your ending. Made me choke up.
me too. SUPER ENDING!
Love you guys!! Ducks!! lol
That's going to be a nice coop. Your ladies will like that. Have a Blessed day.
Healthy birds = healthy food.
Healthy food = healthy body
Soaking feed is a benefit imo.
They may eat a week longer and eat the same total food overall.
Cornish cross are susceptible to heart attacks because they eat too much too fast which causes too much body heat and thickens their blood. Better hydration also is better for heart health. Are you adding ACV to the soaking feed?
I think ACV is amazing 😊.
Pigs are getting big!!
Stay well. It’s gunna be ok
Hi Lorraine and Jason!!! Also Penelope. Do you remove the flowers and buds from your plants that are flowering now??? I planted 2-3 weeks ago and my plants are flowering and peppers even have baby peppers. Some say to pick all flowers and buds. Don't let them produce now. Let them grow bigger and develop better. What is your school of thought????? Thanks for your help.
been away for a short bit..playing catch up :) love how the new chicken coop is gonna be
Love the video
Garden look wonderful can’t wait to see your pumpkins grow!
I can’t say I blame the brothers for not liking celery. 😂😂 that thing is vile. I don’t think it’s meant for human consumption. At least not raw. Thanks for the ending. Almost teared up. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Coming over from Ryan at Freedom Foods Farm! Subscribed!
Hi Bernice 🤠
Can't wait to see the "proper" video on the normal chicken coop.
Thanks for the ending.
Jason it almost looked like you where go to take a ride on one of the Bros; )
yes! I would have if he started running :)
That is so cool showing off your mad building skillz. 💪👍🤠🌞🐓🐔
I love my Bernice!!!! Awesome name!! LOVE Y'ALL TOO!!!
Thankyou for the video, so lovely to see you being great with your animals. Sure are lucky animals having such great living quarters.
Lovely video
Yeah, it's gonna be alright
My 3 year old daughter said you’re doing a good job.
The brothers lol
They're technically not eating less you're just putting out less to eat because the weed is expanding or whatever seed you're using and if you don't put in a ground grain it'll actually sprout and you'll give them a different green to eat
The chicken coop is taking shape. The brothers just keep growing and growing. I do believe that after using the broad fork to turn new ground, Lorraine will sleep well tonight. I know I would. Take Care God Bless
Carry on
You are an inspiration Sir! I am new to Homesteading and really want to become more independent on my own land. I look forward to your videos and learning. Thank you.
thank you, I appreciate you.
